That's a wrap on NFL Week 5 — and what a finale. The Bills, 3.5-point underdogs, beat the Rams 37-34 in overtime. Los Angeles, the early Super Bowl favorite, is now 2-3 and in third place in the NFC West. New Super Bowls at Circa: 49ers +680, Bills +700, Rams +750.

🏈 25 Handicappers. One Remarkable Record.

I love it whenever I hear from Las Vegas professional bettor Steve Fezzik.

My former Northwestern classmate is generous with his feedback on what we do here at VSiN — both the good and, on occasion, the not so good.

On Monday, he texted me to point out the aggregate record of the contestants in the Circa Friday Football Invitational.

“You'll never see a 25-person contest have such a strong record ever ever ever again.”

I checked the stats and, as usual, Steve is right.

Through five weeks, the 25 contestants have combined for:

479-389-7 on sides and totals

55.18% win rate

That's 90 more winners than losers from a field of 25 handicappers.

I told Steve I hoped I wouldn't mush the contestants by writing about it. I already mini-mushed them: three contestants had the Rams -3.5 on Monday night.

🏈 Tuesday Night Football

Conference USA keeps the daily football streak alive with two games tonight:

Delaware (-1) at Middle Tennessee — 7 p.m. ET, CBS Sports Network

FIU (+3) at Jacksonville State — 8 p.m. ET, ESPNU

Our resident C-USA expert Adam Burke has plays on both games.

Adam also spotted a potentially telling line move: Delaware opened -2.5 but is down to -1 at Circa.

“It looks like we might be trending towards a flipped favorite situation. Circa’s -1 price suggests that they’ve taken some Blue Raiders support and may be expecting more of it.”

📊 Five Games on Adam's Radar

Adam has updated his college football power ratings and identified six games where his numbers differ from the betting line.

Actually, make that five. News that UCLA quarterback Nico Iamaleava is expected to miss the rest of the season with a knee injury came after Adam completed his ratings.

🔎 NFL Week 6: Quarterback Questions

Adam Burke is tracking the early line adjustments for Week 6 — with more moves likely as quarterback injury situations become clearer.

Take Bears–Falcons. Michael Penix Jr. got banged up late in Atlanta's loss to Baltimore, while Caleb Williams could be ready to return from his hamstring injury. The line is Chicago -3, for now.

☠️ Survivor: 2,910 Still Alive

The Rams' overtime loss eliminated three more Circa Survivor entries, leaving 2,910 of the original 25,017 still chasing the $25,017,000 prize pool.

That puts the implied share of the prize pool at approximately $8,597 per surviving entry.

⚾ Dodgers in Trouble; Guardians Strike First

The Dodgers head back to Los Angeles down 2-0 to the Brewers in the NLCS — and, according to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal, even the possibility of benching Shohei Ohtani is being discussed.

Ohtani went 0-for-4 in Monday's 7-4 loss and is hitting .150 this postseason.

In the ALCS, Cleveland opened with a 7-3 victory over Tampa Bay. Game 2 is tonight, with Parker Messick facing Freddy Peralta.

Adam Burke says the bullpens told much of Monday's story: Milwaukee got five perfect innings from its relievers, Cleveland allowed only a solo homer out of the pen, and Tampa Bay's bullpen surrendered five runs.

He's also watching how the Guardians approach Peralta's changeup — and how Messick's own changeup matches up with Tampa Bay's right-handed bats.

“I would expect Freddy Peralta in Game 2 to throw a lot of changeups, but I'm curious to see if it's his two-strike pitch or if he throws them in early counts. That will make a huge difference in how the Cleveland offense performs.”
