🏈 Four Straight Thursday Upsets. What's Next for NFL Week 6?

Make it four straight Thursday Night Football upsets.

In yesterday's VSiN Daily, we noted Dave Tuley's observation that underdogs had won outright on three consecutive Thursday nights.

The Broncos made it four, beating the Seahawks 17-14 in overtime as 2.5-point home underdogs.

And it's not just a Thursday phenomenon. According to Dave's ViewFromVegas tracking, NFL underdogs are now 41-33-5 ATS (55.4%) this season, even though favorites lead 48-30-1 straight up.

The game also stayed Under 40.5, trimming the season-long edge for Overs to 40-39-1.

An Injury That Could Shake Up Circa Survivor

The Eagles have ruled out quarterback Jalen Hurts for Sunday's game against the Panthers, and the betting market reacted immediately. Carolina moved from a 1-point favorite to -3.5.

But the impact could extend beyond the point spread.

The Panthers weren't among Adam Burke's potential Circa Survivor selections when he published his Week 6 analysis. Now they could become a popular option.

Carolina is still available to 98.6% of the 2,910 live entries. That's a lot of contestants who suddenly have another team to consider.

Does the quarterback change make Carolina worth using now, or is there a better opportunity elsewhere on the Week 6 board?

⚾ Brewers Sweep Dodgers. Now Comes the Wait.

The Milwaukee Brewers are headed to the World Series after completing a four-game sweep of the two-time defending champion Dodgers with Thursday night's 6-4 victory.

And Adam Burke was impressed by more than just the result.

“What an incredible series for the Brewers and their bullpen,” Adam told VSiN Daily. “They were the more prepared team and it showed in every facet of the game in every game of the series.”

Now comes an unusual challenge: Milwaukee won't play again for eight days. Game 1 of the World Series is scheduled for Friday, October 23, regardless of when the ALCS ends.

Meanwhile, the Guardians take a 2-1 series lead into Friday's ALCS Game 4 against the Rays (6 p.m. ET, TBS).

Adam has his Game 4 breakdown and betting analysis ready.

🏈 Friday Night Football: Can a QB Change Save Washington?

The college football weekend gets started with three games Friday night, including a Big Ten matchup that raises an interesting question: Can changing quarterbacks fix Washington's offense?

Elijah Brown threw three touchdown passes against Iowa after replacing Demond Williams Jr. But Adam Burke isn't convinced that a new quarterback solves Washington's problems protecting the passer and running the football.

Purdue, meanwhile, has played a tougher schedule. Does that make the Boilermakers worth laying the points?

Friday's college football games (Circa lines; times ET):

  • Memphis (-7) at Tulane — 7:30 p.m., ESPN
  • Washington at Purdue (-3.5) — 8 p.m., Fox
  • Appalachian State (-1) at Coastal Carolina — 8 p.m., ESPN2

🏀 The NBA Changed the Rules. Did It Change the Betting Math?

Last season, four NBA teams combined to go 16-95 after the All-Star break. Losing had practically become a competitive sport.

Now the NBA is trying to change that.

Under the league's new “3-2-1 Lottery,” finishing with one of the three worst records comes with a penalty instead of the usual reward.

Here's why bettors should care: If bad teams have more incentive to win, those late-season games against contenders might not be the automatic mismatches we've grown accustomed to.

That could change how we handicap season win totals — at both ends of the standings.

In our new 44-page VSiN NBA Betting Guide, Zach Cohen explains the rule changes, what they could mean for bettors and where he sees potential opportunities.
