🧠 Zach Cohen's NBA Report: Two and a Half Duds
Sunday's slate was pretty miserable. Cavaliers-Raptors Game 4 was really the only close one, and Spurs-Trail Blazers Game 4 was interesting for a little over 24 minutes. However, Celtics-76ers Game 4 and Lakers-Rockets Game 4 ended in absolute blowouts. We'll have to hope that Monday — with Pistons-Magic Game 4, Thunder-Suns Game 4 and Timberwolves-Nuggets Game 5 — is a little better. However, judging by the spreads, we shouldn't get our hopes up.
At least Sunday did bring us the usual NBA drama. James Harden struggled in a big playoff game, finishing with seven turnovers and a key miss on an open midrange jumper that would have put Cleveland up five points late in the fourth. That series is now surprisingly tied at two games apiece, and the takes were flying on X after that. Donovan Mitchell, who was 6-for-24 from the field, also got his share of criticism.
There was also another absence for Kevin Durant, who has now missed three of the four games in Houston's series with Los Angeles. Durant, who has no shortage of haters, continues to be flamed, despite the fact that team doctors haven't cleared him to return from his ankle sprain. Expect the criticism to continue if he can't suit up for a win-or-go-home Game 5 in Los Angeles.
The only positive story of the day? Joel Embiid returned to action for Philadelphia, and he deserves a ton of flowers for coming back so quickly after an appendectomy earlier in April. Unfortunately, his bravery was rewarded with a 32-point loss to Boston.
