Steve Makinen has posted one of my favorite NFL offseason pieces: Studying 2025 NFL Quality Wins/Losses to Predict 2026 Results.

The last 10 seasons have shown a trend against teams that win a lot of close games.

In that span, there have been 81 teams that won six or more games by eight points or fewer. Of that group, only 21 improved the next season, with the other 60 dropping off by an average of 3.1 wins per year.

Teams affected in 2026: Carolina, Chicago, Denver, Houston, Jacksonville, LA Chargers, New England, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Seattle and Tampa Bay.

Steve also has updated his betting systems based on rookie quarterbacks and veteran QBs who have changed teams. Heads-up to Raiders backers: Las Vegas will have both in Fernando Mendoza and Kirk Cousins.

On rookies: Steve's data suggests bettors should be selective rather than automatically fading rookie starters, as recent rookies have produced several profitable ATS trends.
