Going to the... My, my dad was- Moon landing, 1969... my dad was a, a American history major, too. Yeah. Very, very intelligent. He always told me, he's like, "You kids- So did-... you just know nothing."

But he had everything on the moon landing at the front of every newspaper. When Elvis died, he had everything on Elvis, all the... I never knew he had these things. Perfectly saved, though. Pretty good.

So you're, you're hitting home because- Oh, okay... um, I was away last week. I never really talked about this on air. I was away because, it's interesting, when, when my dad died three years ago, I was inconsolable.

Three years later, my mom passes away s- about a month ago now, not quite a month ago, and you don't know how you're gonna react in any of these situations, but for me and my brother, this was, this became like, "Oh, we got, you know...

There's a house in DC. We gotta sell the house. Like, we gotta p- we gotta get everything out of the house," right?

So, like, the base- your baseball cards, your Sports Illustrateds, like, that kind of sports memorabilia, of course I keep it. Um, you know, I, I'll never get rid of that 'cause that's just my, that's just my life.

But I d- we didn't realize that she was such a hoarder of stuff, and that she kept everything, and he ke- By the way, what you're h- e- exactly what you're saying, you run into...

First of all, was, it was emotionally and physically exhausting because physically you're deciding, "Okay, what should, what is worth putting in storage? Why are we even putting it in storage?

Are we ever gonna look at this again?" But it's like, "Here's my dad's, you know, diploma that he ch- that he kept and cherished. We can't throw this out. We'd be awful human beings to throw this out."

Obvious- the next thought is, "But what are we gonna do with it?" Right? What do you do with it? W- what are we gonna do with it? Does your brother have kids? Are we gonna just... No, neither of us do. So- [laughs]...

so here's the thing. So we, the, every one of these decisions was, like, this heart-wrenching, "Oh, now we have to look at these pictures 'cause..."

And by the way, we s- we say this gratefully that they have these pictures. That's, that w- yes. But we have to look at them together. Like, "Do you keep this one? Do I keep this one? Do you get..."

So it's like this, and it's just, it was nonstop. Like, the world stopped. But I, what I found was is that she kept all of my stuff from school, and I mean way back. [laughs] Right?

And so whenever I tell stories about, this was the interesting gambling tie-in, whenever I tell stories about, okay, I was, I always say I was the kid in grade school who was the one, my parents are not from this country, I don't know how I decided to do this, I started the football pool at school, right?

Where it was just wins and losses, and, you know, and I f- I feared that the teachers would catch me all the years. And finally, I tell the story, three years into it, somebody did.

One of the teachers put their hand on my shoulder and I was like, "Oh, the gig is up. Uh, the jig is up." And then he goes, "How do I get in on this?" Right? Right. And I realized, oh, this gambling thing or something.

And I say, and I always tell the story that the only, like, real, the first sort of odds thing that I added to it was when Georgetown was dominant in college basketball, and this was already high school, where I was like, "I'll give all y'all 5 to 1.

No, I'll give, I, I get 5 to 1 if Georgetown wins it all. You get every other team in the tournament," right? That, so I, that was the first odds thing that I recollect, but this was not the case.

'Cause when I was home, I looked, I... She kept my football pools that I gave out to people- Wow... when I was in third grade. What are the ideas for, for last week? I was eight years old.

And you know what my, you know what my tiebreaker was at eight years old? What was it? The spread on Monday night. Of course it was. [laughs] I did not remember that. Wow.

So there was all these little moments where I'm like, "Oh my God." Yeah. Yeah. And she kept it. Kept it all. And you know, and but what do you do?

Thank God, thank God I have a friend there, my, my, my friend Al, and, um, Al has, uh, many businesses and he's like, "I'll send my guys over to help you."

So he s- he sent three guys over, and I thought it would take, take two hours, three hours. It took two days. Al's guys- Oh...

gr- took every box out, and not only that, they went through the boxes with me and, and now I, I, I... Al has lots of property and he let me... They're in, they're stored in one of his garages.

He has m- he has multiple garages. Do you know, I, I paid, like, 250 or I think I even- And you pay it to this day and you don't know why. Yeah, no, I, I, I, I, I s- I wasted, um, 18 grand.

I figured it out, like 18, 19 grand one time on storage, and I threw everything away in the storage. Oh, man. And I was like, "What's wrong with me?"

You know, like, I take after my father's tendency, so thank, thank you to Al. But it's, but it is brutal, right? It's brutal because you, you have guilt, you have practical, you know, thoughts.

Like, okay, I have the guilt of this, but at the same time, what am I gonna do with this? And am I, and what does- What am I gonna do with this? That's why I asked you- Yeah... do you have kids anyone?

Well- Because we have stuff where we have no, and there's no children here, so what do we do with all this stuff? And, you know, one thing I, I, I, I loved, there's a big cedar chest downstairs. Yeah.

And I never knew it was there. Opened it up, it still smelled of cedar, and I found my grandparents', um, birth certificates and, and school records and the proper spelling of my name.

But he, and this is why I wanna say when I was eulogizing my dad on the show three years ago, this is what, he became a Redskins fan because I was such a rabbit skins, rabid Skins fan.

And so to the point where it, he used to live and die with it. By the time I got to, like, junior high school, he'd b- he'd be like, "Oh, Jesus Christ, I can't believe we did this again." Wow.

And Will Hill always reminds me of this, and I love him for it, which is whenever a team had two straight negative plays, my dad would always [laughs] he'd always have the same line, "Jesus Christ, I can't believe they're going the wrong way."
