That said, there are a lot of people out there, myself included, that think the two teams directly behind them have closed the gap a decent amount on them, that being the Broncos and the Chargers.

And definitely, uh, and we'll, we'll talk about the Raiders, but the Raiders can't be worse. If anything, the Raiders have gotten better. As long as you can have a competent quarterback- Mm...

They were forced to trade Joe Thuney because he needed a contract extension.

They've got too much on the books with all the stuff that's going on, so it's gonna be a left tackle battle between a, a free agent pickup in Jaylen Moore and a first rounder in Josh Simmons.

Creed Humphrey is still very, very good on that offensive line, but Juwan Taylor is kind of middling at best. And so you're replacing the full left side of the, of the line here. Could that affect Patrick Mahomes?

Maybe so. You know, I, I think that that's something that, that we've got to keep in mind. Rashee Rice is coming off of that LCL injury, so will he be the same? Will he look the same?

That's something we at least have to consider- Yep... whenever we're, whenever we're handicapping this team. And then Travis Kelce does turn 36 in October. Mm-hmm.

And there are not a lot of impact 36-year-olds in the NFL, and certainly not a lot of impact 36-year-olds that play the position that he does. And last season was his lowest receiving yardage total of his career.

It was the lowest yards per target of his career. Before that, the lowest yards per target of his career was 8.1, which actually happened the year prior in 2023. 6.2 last season.

Two yards down on yards per target for Travis Kelce last year. Average 51.4 yards per game. That also the lowest of his career, and he had games of 34, 5, 30, 17, 8, 45, 27, and 30.

And then you get to the playoffs and he had 19 yards against Buffalo. So the decline and the drop-off is real there with Kelce as well. Do I think that this team's gonna be bad? I do not.

But I do think that the Broncos and the Chargers have both closed the gap a decent amount with them. All right, I'm gonna start. Uh, I'll ask you this question Chiefs have won 11 games every season Mahomes has started.

I thought he would be middling at best, you know? He was good, and I think a lot of that has to do with, with, with Sean Payton. And then what can you do to help out a quarterback continue to have success, Kelly?

How about all five offensive linemen return for this team that had the top pass blocking grade according to Pro Football Focus in all the NFL last year? Yeah, returned 20 starters in general. Yeah.

And so you're looking here, it is a, an offense that's full of... And this is what Sean Payton does, right? It's full of play action, it's full of screens. He rolls out a ton.

All of that stuff that, like, makes it easier on a quarterback and easier on an offensive line as well, right? Mm-hmm. He's not having to hold onto the ball a ton. You're getting it out of his hands quick.

You're doing those things that allows them to really, like, kinda just go super hard for two seconds, right? And, and not have to defend for long.

On the defensive side of the ball, I think that this is, again, arguably, we can talk Houston, we can talk some of these other teams, but they are going to be in the discussion for the best defense in the league. Yeah.

You would think. Like, they, they will at least be in the discussion, so long as they're not- If, if they're not, this season in general is probably... Me and you are losing money probably. Yeah.

If they're not considered a top five defense. One of the interesting things about this team last year as well, they generated pressure on 41% of the time without blitzing.

So, like, when they didn't blitz, they were still able to get pressure nearly half the time. Obviously, that was best in the league, or I wouldn't bring it up. Right. But it's, um, it's, it's just...

That is such an incredible weapon, when you can leave all your defenders out there defending, and you're still making the quarterback have to speed things up. Mm-hmm. And so that's just such a huge, huge weapon.

Can they, can they repeat that here this year? Does Bo Nix take the second year leap, or does he... Or, or, or is there so much film on him now that maybe these defenses figured out?

So there are question marks, don't get me wrong. I just think if you look at this team overall, it's kinda hard to not like what you see.

Like, they are, they were top four on, on defense against the run and, and the pass. They're solid o- o- s- that defense is just rock solid, and they added to it, uh, this season. And the offense, fine.

And I, you know, I get Herbert is awesome, but when Ladd McConkie is your number one and you have to bring in a, a 57-year-old, you know, Keenan Allen, uh, to try and put a [laughs], put some sort of, uh, some sort of wide receiver two out on the field, with all that the offensive line has spots that have weaknesses, specifically at right tackle.

So, you know, I think that now they can just go, "Well, let's put in all the teams that we want except for the ones that we have to put in."

I'm not a huge Phil Longo fan, who's the new head coach at Sam Houston State. Uh, I wasn't impressed with him as a Power Four, Power Five offensive coordinator. He's back here.

He was the offensive coordinator here about a decade ago.

Not really a big fan of him as a first-time head coach with a program that lost basically everything except their starting quarterback from last year, uh, with Casey Keeeler taking the job at Temple.

So I'm kind of interested just from a numbers standpoint, 'cause I think this line is a little bit high. Uh, kind of interested in the Bearkats, but I don't know if I'm gonna get there. I may end up playing Stanford.

If, if we see a three here on Stanford, I'm gonna go ahead and take it. I know people are down on this program, but I mean, Andrew Luck has gotten some significant financial contribution now that he's the GM.

Frank Reich as the head coach at least gives them some kind of stability there, even if he's only gonna be there for one year.

And I just don't know that Hawaii is really all that good, despite the fact that maybe it seems like Timmy Chang is kinda building up this program a little bit.

So I think Liberty at plus money was a, a really good play here. They're minus 110 at DraftKings now. I think you could still maybe find even money out there, uh, in the market.

So I think that's one that's kinda worth taking a look at here. Uh, in terms of other things that I like right now that are still available, um, you know, I really think that- LSU's gonna win the national title.

I think P- Pete Lembo is just a really, really good head coach.

I know there are some negative regression signs in the profile for them in terms of some of the close games that they won, some of the roster turnover, stuff like that.

But I think Ohio takes a little bit of a step back with some of their losses, even though I do like that they bring back Parker Navarro and some familiarity, some continuity with their head coach, Brian Smith, who was the OC last year.

But I don't think Toledo's talent, you know, kinda stands out as much as it usually does in the MAC. So I think Buffalo at four to one is still a pretty good play to win that conference.

Uh, I like the Rays laying a short price here. Uh, Drew Rasmussen's been really, really good throughout the course of the season.

Drew Rasmussen's actually been really good at home, uh, where he's got a 254 weighted on-base average against in 70 2/3 innings pitched. Uh, he's a guy who doesn't walk anybody, keeps the ball on the ground.

You know, the Yankees hit nine home runs yesterday. They, they really jumped all over Shane Baz after that rain delay. But Rasmussen's not a guy that you can take yard all that often.

And Cam Schlittler, who's a guy that you gotta be very, very careful when you pronounce his name- Yes. Oh, yeah. Yeah Mm. Um, 3.94 ERA in his six starts, but a 524 fifth, left on base percentage around 88%.

I hear a lot of negative regression signs building in the profile for him. Also, he's more likely to give up fly balls, more likely to give up home runs there, uh, pitching outdoors in Tampa than Rasmussen is.

So I just thought the Rays were a pretty good play here in this one where, you know, I mean, their bullpen's actually been quite good in the month of August, which surprised me when I dug, dug a little bit deeper into their numbers.

But I would say it's my, probably my favorite play for tonight, uh, is the Rays laying that short number around -$1.20. Pretty sure Cam never got made fun of as a kid. I'm pretty... Uh, no way. Yeah, no way. No way.

Uh, one of the, uh, other, one of the other interesting ones here, and I just was seeing if you, if you agree with me. This is gonna be something I'll talk about in the final segment.

Hurston Waldrop come up for the Braves. He's gonna make his third start for them. Has looked really, really impressive through the first two. Gone six innings, at least, in both of those. He gets the White Sox today.

I don't know if you really can bet him at 190 on the money line, but I think there's probably some player prop stuff there with Waldrop to, to like. And I think they're gonna give him an extended look here.

They're out of it. They need to figure out what they're gonna do next year. Yeah. So Waldrop's a really interesting guy, and, uh, you know, I actually backed him in his last start. Mm.

I believe it was with an outs recorded prop, uh, something like that against Cleveland, or maybe a team total under.

But, you know, Sean Murphy was on a rehab assignment earlier this season, and he basically told Waldrop, like, "Hey, why don't you experiment with a sinker a little bit?

You know, why don't you try and kinda cut down on the fly ball rate a little bit? You know, have something that goes down in the zone, something that can miss barrels."

Well, all of a sudden, this is now a guy, in his three Major League starts, with a 49% ground ball rate, pitched much better than his numbers would suggest in the minor leagues.

Had a bit of a walk rate issue down in the minors that has now gone away at the MLB level. And we see this a lot.

We see a lot of guys that get up to the big leagues, and all of a sudden their control gets a little bit better.

So Waldrop is one of the guys that does fit that profile here so far where, you know, he's done a good job with only five walks in 17 2/3. As you mentioned, working deep into games.

There's a lot of pitch efficiency here when you're getting guys to hit the ball on the ground. You know, you're not getting as many foul balls 'cause you're not working up in the zone, stuff like that.

I think he's a really, really interesting arm for them going forward, and a guy that... I mean, they took two years ago in the first round of the 2023 MLB draft.

So a guy that they had high expectations for coming out of Florida, seemingly living up to them.

The White Sox have actually been pretty good offensively for the last month and a half or so, which is a really big surprise. But Martin Perez is a gas can. I, I don't think he's any good. Mm-hmm.

if you look at this Cardinals schedule, there's a couple different things about them as well that you kinda want to, I think, take advantage of if you do wanna play. I understand it's a road.
