You're looking the other way, though, in this game tomorrow. I, I am. I've laid the three with Kansas State, and maybe if it comes down a little bit more maybe we can find a little bit cheaper, uh, of a money line.

If you look ba- I, I don't want to always wanna look back at last year's game, but if you look at the circumstances around, uh, the game last year, Iowa State won at home 29-21.

It was one of the best teams, best seasons i- in Iowa State history.

And if you look at everything [laughs] that happened in the game in order for them to win, uh, they were outgained by 40 yards, Kansas State committed eight penalties, had a 21-yard field goal blocked, uh, uh, had a safety.

Iowa State, or Kansas State rather, was a combined four of 17 on third and fourth down. Uh, a fourth down and two on the Iowa State 35 just a plain drop.

Like, like, there wa- there was a lot that went wrong for Kansas State in that game which allowed the Clones to win. Now, i- is that going to happen again? Will Kansas State play a sloppy game in the opener? It could.

But I also worry a little bit about everything that Iowa State lost, uh, on offense. Noel a- and Higgins at wide receiver. Now, they brought in a couple of very highly thought of guys, but will they gel right away?

Defensively I worry a little bit about Iowa State. Uh, it doesn't really... That three, three, three stack really doesn't, uh, stop the run very m- very well.

And, and you worry ab- about, uh, Dillon Edwards and Avery Johnson and Gabe Urban. Like, if, if they're looking at third and two the entire night, uh, it, it could be, uh, could be rough sledding for Iowa State.

So I did lay the three here with Kansas State. I know it, uh, we saw a four pop there briefly. At circuit it was three and a half for a while.

And, uh, and now that it hit three I, I'm, I'm, I laid the points with, uh, with the, uh, with the Purple Cats. Chris, we got three massive games in week one. We got Notre Dame, Miami. We got LSU and Clemson.

We got Texas and Ohio State. Let's just start with, with the ones on, on Saturday and LSU and Cl- LSU heads over to Clemson. We know they've, uh, been unable to win any of these season openers it seems like forever.

There's certainly the Garrett Nussmeier stuff going on about he could possibly be the number one overall pick if Arch Manning decides not to come out and all of that. How do you think the Battle of the Tigers turns out?

Like, it seems like there are three big questions with those three teams that everybody thinks is the best team in the SEC. Like, uh, LS- I played LSU at seven to one to win the SEC.

on paper anyway, right, on pa- They absolutely destroyed the transfer portal.

All the holes that they had, they went and filled, and I think they backfilled it even better and got a little bit of depth along, along with it as well.

And they have the most important position in all of the sport kind of locked down there with Will Levis. Well, I'm with you. I know no one wants to hear my opinion on LSU 'cause they think I'm biased.

[laughs] But I do believe, I do believe on paper, though, this team is like toe-to-toe with, with, with anybody you put them up against.

A- and the result of that game on Saturday probably allows you, if you are a Clemson fan or, or a backer- Mm... if you are an LSU backer, it's not gonna affect the conference title races in the long, in the long run.

Maybe you get a better price on LSU or Clemson, whoever loses- Mm... that game, uh, to make the College Football Playoff. That, that, that's probably the way that I would approach it. Oh, great.

But I, i- everyone is t- looking at, uh, Illinois as maybe being the Indiana of last year. People are talking about USC maybe making a run. But Minnesota is a team,

I t- I talked about them, uh, with, with Gil previously, about being on the over at seven and a half in terms of their w- win total. You guys just pop the schedule up.

If you look, if you look at the schedule there, like outside of the games at Ohio State and at Oregon, there isn't a game there that you can say, "Oh, yeah, they, they can't win that."

Like, there is a chance that they're 10 and two a- a- and sitting there on the cusp of how the, the committee is gonna evaluate them.

But if they're 10 and two in the Big 10 w- with, uh, with losses at Ohio State and losses at Oregon, then maybe, maybe if they're... As long as they're respectable, I think they're gonna be in the conversation.

Certainly with all the talk of the expansion of the College Football Playoff a- a- and the Big 10 wanting to kind of secure four spots. But Minnesota, they...

Y- you've got a new quarterback, but you got a great two-way player in Perasich. You got a, a really good schedule. Last year they were really close to kind of a special season. They, they nearly beat, uh, Penn State.

They nearly beat Michigan. Uh, should've beaten North Carolina. Three brutal losses. So I trust PJ Fleck. I, I, I think he's built a, a high character, deep team.

And I, and I think the Gophers, uh, could potentially be the, uh, the Indiana, if you wanna put Indiana in quotes, of this year. I think Gophers are a little bit forgotten about.

So Texas really has no idea what we're gonna see, uh, from the Ohio State defense. We had a new first time play caller from, you know, from Ohio State in Brian Hartline.

Uh, w- with a quarterback now who w- look, this is gonna be a different Ohio State offense from what we saw last year. Julian Sayin is not a runner. He can, he can spin it. He can throw it.

But it's really gonna be, uh, paramount for the Ohio State offensive line to be able to protect him to get the ball to those Ohio State wide outs against what I think will be the best unit on the field, the Texas defense.

So I bet this total a- a- at 50 and a half. Uh, it's down to 48, and I'm still not sure that that's low enough right now. I, I, I can see this being a, a 24, 20 type of game where Sark is not gonna wanna just...

Here, here you go, Arch. Go on the road against the reigning national champions and, a- a- and throw the ball to all of your weapons around. And the same thing with Ohio State.

While I had mentioned Sayin can throw the ball, remember last year in that playoff game, they only scored 21 offensive points- Mm... with that great, uh, offense that they had.

How much stock do you put into this whole deal about Arch n- not going pro and coming back to Texas and all that? A ton.

I, I think anything short of Texas winning the national title and Arch Manning winning the Heisman, I think he's back for sure.

Well, let's, let's start right there. I think for some of the people out there that maybe they're playing in, in some of these pools and contests, maybe not necessarily at Circa, but around the country.

Maybe they're playing these, in these for the first time. What are some of the biggest tips that you have for some of the beginners out there? Uh, I mean, y- get your picks in, right? [laughs] We don't want no picks.

That's right, yeah. [laughs] That's number one. Be in the game. Um, set that, set that alarm. Um, yeah, think about the future in the sense, it's not completely predictable, but it is... I mean, you got...

Here, here at Circa, they're hanging futures on who's gonna make the AFC Championship game. They do not price the Chiefs and, uh, Bills the same as the Browns. Yeah, that's right.

So we're gonna generally be right on most teams of who's gonna be live to pick late in the year. Injuries can impact that. So you do need to think about the future.

You also wanna think about how other people are gonna play the contest, 'cause it's not just about you. You make your money when you're right in ways that maximize your money, 'cause other people are wrong.

And so, you know, there's a difference between win- uh, any win's great, but if you can win when there's a, a very few winners versus a year when, say, there's 30, which could happen in this contest, right? Yep, yep.

Usually in survivor, there's, like, say, let's say five teams- Mm... that are really in play, and you'll see those five, I think, in most pools. But you may see a shift in, like, how steamed up one gets, right? Mm-hmm.

Um, you may see a team be more popular in one than the other. Like, um, if I were thinking about the Grand Decimo, it's gonna, it depend on where the final numbers end up. Yep. Right?

If we're at 30 versus 50 or, or, you know. Right. But, [laughs] um, there is a, it's at least in play that Thanksgiving doesn't even matter- Mm... in the Grand Decimo, right? It's at least in play.

I don't think you can completely not plan for it, but you should put less emphasis on weeks 15, 16. Like, you're looking for EV plays or leverage plays earlier than you would, I think, in the main circuit contest.

I think Denver's gonna be overwhelmingly popular. You think they're gonna be the number one most selected team, and kinda who's next? I would guess in Circa, Denver and Arizona. I would guess in the pub...

If I'm just playing in the pool- Yeah... with my buddies, Arizona's gonna be down. Okay. Uh, the, the average public participant is not gonna wanna take the Cardinals.

They maybe aren't quite as up on, like, how the Saints are viewed in the markets, um, all that stuff.

So I, I would think what, whatever we end up showing is public pick data across the country in survivor pools, Arizona's gonna be higher than that in Circa, would be my guess.

Because strategically it makes sense as a first-order pick, right? Mm-hmm. You're saving more future value.

Philadelphia's too valuable, I think, in Circa, where other contests that may not be quite the case and people will fire them. And so you're gonna have the, those picks are gonna have to go somewhere.

Cincinnati's on the board. How will the public view them- Oh, boy. Yeah... coming off the last few years? Won't be me. Yeah. Will not be me week one.

And then Washington, there's, uh, there's a lo- I think question marks around Washington, right? Like, there's just, like, some concerns, like, is McLaurin actually gonna get- Mm-hmm... worked in? Mm-hmm.

And, you know, 'cause we saw last year the Bengals offense, Chase played, but he held out until- Right, right...

and was kind of a hold in late in the process, and we didn't know if he was actually playing until, I think, Friday or Saturday. Like, he had not committed to playing. Higgins was out.

There were, there were warning signs that the Bengals offense may not be at 100%, and it turned out to be their worst offensive performance of the year and cost everybody in survivor. I, I think that, uh, yeah, I...

That, the Eagle, the, the Washington New York call is interesting, 'cause I, I think as of a few weeks ago, we would've said Washington would've been one of the bigger ones. But like, man, we were talking about it today.

Lost a ton of people the year before in week one. Is there a theory you have as to why that is?

Is it, is it, is it just variance of the NFL and the parity of the NFL, or is it because we don't really know who these teams are? I think it's a little bit of both last year. Mm.

If you go back and look at the results- Yeah... right, you would never in the world predict Baltimore, knowing how the season they had, would've lost to the Raiders in week two. Yeah. Right?

But then there were some mispricings right early, like, uh, we didn't know how good Denver was. Hmm. They beat Tampa the week after, I mean, and they were pop- uh, they beat the Jets. Mm.

They took out two of the big ones, I think, in the first four weeks were, were Denver over Tam- well, that turned out to be Denver was just better than we thought. Yeah. Right?

Uh, same with Washington over Cincy on Monday Night Football. You, that line would not have been what it was if we had perfect knowledge of how good those teams were. So there were some cases like that.

Cincy-New England was a special case with how Cincy was coming in, 'cause the Patriots were not good. The market was right about that. But Cincy was hot. [laughs] So, so it was a mix, I think, a- and it was just wild.

I mean, there was just... So it was partially some of the teams expected to be good weren't, some of the surprises actually got picked against, and you ran into a team with, like, Jayden Daniels. Yeah. Uh, so. Yeah.

And w- we talked earlier in the week of just how some of these big favorites have per- have performed, uh, in, in week one of survivor.

And we were like, "I'm gonna regress toward what has historically happened with favorites [laughs] and how survivor contest elimination rates work." So we never really... That was part of my article.

I never really projected us to have a ch- a solo champion before week 18. I was like, "We're probably still going the distance," and we saw that. Things bounced back.

So this, the average in week one's probably, like, a little over 70% survive. It is a tougher week in general. We don't know. Mm-hmm.

Uh, you rarely get teams over seven, and when you, when you do, they get really popular. Um, so it is a tough week. It does put teams...

If, if we can get a team that's three and a half, four in play, I just don't know if we have that team emerge yet. Yeah. You don't want the Chiefs at three and a half. [laughs] They have too much value. I know, right.

You want a team like Jacksonville to get steam, and you're like, "Okay, P- okay, what's going on? Maybe there's an injury.
