Transcript 0:01 The numbers told the story, they always do. You one of those idiots who believe in analytics? This is a Numbers Game with Gil Alexander on VSiN. 0:09 Hour number three of a Numbers Game at VSiN, the sports betting network, vsin.com, Game Plus, iHeartRadio, and of course, YouTube TV, not to mention Sirius XM channel 158. 0:17 Gil Alexander, and producer number nine, so much more than a producer, Kelly Bidlin, everybody. Hey-yo. Hey-yo. How we doing? Uh, we got one of the four tennis matches starting this, uh, this hour. 0:30 Can't remember which one it was. It's not the Taylor Townsend one, but one of those four. All right. Let me check the men's schedule then. 0:35 Yeah, one of the, one of the four is happening right no- is, is happening this hour. It hasn't started yet either, so still time to get in the, uh, tennis plays if you are so inclined at the US Open. 0:45 One of the great sporting events, by the way, in this nation. This is a, should be a bucket list for everybody. Yeah. While you do all your nerdy golf, Ryder Cup talk- How would you-... Ryder Cup talk. 0:55 How would you list the- Komisana starts in, uh, 40 minutes, the big dog of the bunch How would you list the, the tennis tournaments for bucket list? Attendance? Yeah. Um, well, I think- How many have you been to? 1:09 Just the US Open. That's what I thought. Okay. I think Melbourne, as Ron Flatter would pronounce it, Melbourne, Australia. I think the Australian Open would be last for me. Yeah. Yeah, me too. 1:18 US Open- Sorry, it's kinda easy. Yeah. Uh, US Open just has a certain... Night matches at the US Open is still number one, even though I've already been. But French and, and Wimbledon, come on, you gotta go to those. 1:31 I, that's where I'm like- Yeah... I feel like all three of those I wanna, I, I wanna get to at some point. Wimbledon, it's impossible to get into, like, you have to be in a lottery to get in. 1:38 And the French, sometimes it's cold, you gotta d- Kelly, you gotta dress the part at the French Open. Roland Garros, at Philippe-Chatrier. You gotta dress, man. You can't go like this. Even more so than Wimbledon? 1:50 Yeah, I think s- well, no. French is just for the fashion purposes. Wimbledon, there's a dress code. Oh, right, right. Yeah. Wimbledon's fancy stuffy. Correct. 1:58 And you're s- you're saying French is more f- uh, fashionistas? That is my understanding. You're, you're, you're claiming that I don't have the ability to pull off a fashion-forward look? 2:06 I believe that's what I just said. Wow. But you're looking svelte and good, so now, now maybe you can. That's right. I'm pretty sure you just get, like, a sponsor or something. 2:14 By the way, sp- d- our buddy Preston Johnson shaved his beard and mustache. I still don't believe that picture. I didn't even recognize him. Yeah, I don't believe that picture. You don't look a thing like him now. 2:22 [laughs] I don't believe that picture you showed me. I couldn't believe it. I was like, "That's Preston? What?" Um- It's like when I get the, I get Seth Rogan too much, and I'm like, "What? Why? 2:30 'Cause we have glasses and a beard?" [laughs] JVT still to come this hour, as well as Michael Monosono, booby prize winner back in the day at Circa. First year of the booby prize. 2:39 He's got, uh, an NFL season win total for us and some college football thoughts, and JVT's got all his bets. JVT kind enough to come in before, uh, well before Money Moves, or are we doing him by phone? 2:48 No, he's coming in. Oh, he's coming in too? As far as I know. Wow, okay. Two studio guests coming in. 'Cause he could pull an audible. Ravens, since we're talking AFC North. Yeah. 2:57 Kyle Hamilton gets the bag, four-year extension, $100 million, the highest paid safety in NFL history. That's just coming down. Wow. 3:08 Wasn't it, well, our, our dear friend Mike Lombardi, when he was drafted, was like, "Where are they gonna play him?" Yeah, like, I don't, I don't know. I don't know. That guy's a piece though. Yeah. Hamilton's awesome. 3:16 I think they figured it out. Pittsburgh Steelers to continue with the AFC North. Mm-hmm. Eight and a half season win total. Slightly juiced to the over, minus 125. Uh, 10 and 7 last year. 3:26 I don't know if you know this about Mike Tomlin. Never had a losing season. What? They were two and six, though, to close the season. Two and six stretch. My stars. The stretch g- my stars. [laughs] Oh, my lands. 3:38 It's an old Southern, uh, exclamation. Oh, my lands. Uh, two and six to end the season. That, that gauntlet stretch did happen, but remember, they just won some of these, you know, one-score games. 3:49 They got the best of them. Um, you know the other thing about Mike Tomlin that we never mention? Hasn't won a playoff game since 2016. Yep. 3:58 They've lost four straight playoff games by double digits, all in the wildcard round. Steelers w- Steelers were six and four in one-score games last year, Kelly. [laughs] This is like, this is like, uh, 4:09 a thousand c- paper cuts on Kelly. Six and four in one-score games. That's incredible. That makes it an incredible 12 straight seasons where the Steelers finished 500 or better in close games. That's amazing. 4:23 I have that note bolded as well from Cleve, yeah. Incredible. 4:26 What's, what's more incredible, Cleve says, this is all from Cleve to you, but he says, "Steelers have won 67% of their one-score games since Big Ben retired." 4:35 And think about all the wonderful quarterbacks that have come in and out of Pittsburgh since then. That's right. Duck Hodges leaps to mind. The defense, once again, top 10, uh, but key turnovers forced. 4:49 I mean, again, they just make the big plays. Turnovers and special teams, big edge in tight games for Pittsburgh. Chris Boswell, fourth highest rate of kicks in the league. 4:57 Steelers opposing field goal kickers, ninth lowest rate of kicks. Pittsburgh defense forced the third-most turnovers, ranked number one in EPA gain from the turnovers. 5:04 Offense lost EPA at one of the five lowest rates in the league as well. Team finished number two in net EPA from turnovers. 5:09 Fourth quarter close game, Steelers defense forced the second-highest rate of turnovers, sacked the quarterback third-highest rate. Widest gap between early down success and late down success rate allowed. 5:20 Late down success rate, eighth. They just come up big in the biggest moments. Schedule this year. Things don't heat up until week seven, when they face the Bengals. 5:31 First weeks of the s- first six weeks of the season, Steelers have the second easiest schedule of opponents. Week seven on, to your point, Kelly, about knowing when these schedules break- Yep... in different directions. 5:41 Just another calendar reminder. Week seven on, Pittsburgh faces the second toughest set of opponents. Get hot early, A- Rod, so I can, uh, fade you down the stretch. 5:51 And, and in week six, and, and Cleve points this out, 'cause this is against his beloved Browns. 5:56 That week six games, that week six game where the Steelers play the Browns, the Steelers have an enormous rest advantage over the Browns as they're at home coming off a bye week. 6:06 While the Browns will be coming off a trip to London against Minnesota with no w- week in between. So, you know what's great? 6:13 Cleve- Cleve says it's the only time he can find in his 25-year database where a team is playing on the road after an overseas game without a bye and playing an opponent off a bye. That's amazing. It is. 6:24 But don't feel bad for Cleveland, because they chose to do that. They chose... Well- Right?... they chose not to have a week of rest. Yeah. They didn't choose to play a team coming off a bye. Cor- No, yeah. 6:34 Right, correct. Correct. Yes. Yeah, yeah. But you're always allowed to ta- You're, you're allowed to say, "Hey, I need my b- I need a bye week after that trip." You are allowed to say that, [laughs] 6:43 but they got the double whammy. [laughs] Cleve- It's just... Oh, w- can you imagine being a Cleveland fan? I mean, hey, if y- if you know you're gonna be bad, it's the ri- I mean, whatever. 6:49 It's probably the right move, right? Oh, and as for Aaron Rodgers, uh, finished 15th Pro Football Focus grading, so dead middle league average on target throw percentage last season. 6:59 Complete lack of mobility, killer in high leverage spots. Can't use his legs much. Doesn't really scare a defense with that. He took the seventh highest percentage of sacks on third and fourth downs last season. 7:11 Pickens gone, DK in, Jonnu in, and on defense Ramsey in. And they did, uh, and I guess, uh, Cam Hayward is back in camp as well. T.J. Watts pressure numbers dropped significantly last season. 7:23 Defense relying on a lot of guys in their 30s right now, and this is definitely a last dance some believe here on the Pittsburgh Steelers. Most believe. And by c- and by contract and by age, I think that's true. 7:38 Anything to say about- Yeah, I th- I think it's gonna be interesting to see if it's Mike Tomlin's last dance. No, that's what he means. Oh, okay. I thought- Mike Tomlin included as well... I was talking about Rodgers. 7:44 All of them. Um, yeah. I, I- Rodgers, Tomlin... look, I think there's... Look, the Steelers have gotten to this point where 7:51 it's just tough to w- where, where's the worst place to be in the standings at the end of the year, Gil? Right in the middle, right? In the middle. Like, and that's... 7:59 You talked about them losing in the playoffs, so what are you doing? It means you're drafting, you never have good draft picks, and you're going, you're making the playoffs, but you're losing early on. 8:08 Um, I, I like, I, I like the Steelers team more than I did a year ago. I, I'm interested to see what Rodgers can do. I, I've always been high on Metcalf. Um, see if that connection works. 8:19 But man, I, I think this is just still a, it's just still a tough division. I don't know if they've got it all together. I will be, no bets, no bets for me preseason on the under the win total. 8:28 But I will be circling that week seven spot big time to possibly jump in. All right. Some breaking news. Yes, please. 8:35 Tom Pelissero, Rashee Rice is accepting and will serve a six-game suspension to start the regular season. So we, you and I were discussing- There we go... during the break. 8:44 NFL and NFLPA are working to finalize this settl- settlement, which will end Rice's disciplinary limbo, make him eligible to return week seven versus Las Vegas. 'Cause I wasn't here. It was you and Matt Brown. 8:56 I was on vacation. And, and that came down where it was like, why doesn't, why doesn't Rashee Rice have to s- serve that- It's still-... at the beginning of the season? 9:04 They, it sounded like a- at one point it was gonna be during the season. Yeah. Well, we, we, we've seen these situations. The NFL hands down a suspension and then the N- NFLPA fights back. 9:12 I, I don't really know what's changed, 'cause that, we were... 9:15 Yeah, I was reading an article you and I were talking about during a break where it was, they seem to not be able to come to an agreement on the suspension, and that's what was happening here. Yeah. 9:24 By the way- C- couple reports coming out. It sound- it sounds like the NFL was, w- was going with, "We're gonna give you 10 unless you take six right now." So that's what, that, that's what it sounds like played out. 9:35 They will miss, he will miss games against the Chargers, Eagles, Giants, Ravens, Jags, and Lions, so some big ones on there for Kansas City. Okay. 9:42 Um, we didn't leave enough time for the Cleveland Browns, but, uh- They're not good... they're not good at football. [laughs] What can I tell you? Uh, Cleveland's win total is, what is it? Four and a half? 9:54 Cleveland, is that their number? Five and a half, four and a half. Five and a half, four and a half. Five and a half, somewhere in that range. Somewhere in that pocket. Um, yeah. 9:59 It's, uh, by the way, it's four and a half. The m- I- if it's four and a half, it's the over is juiced at minus 145, the under's plus 120. If it's five and a half, the under juiced at minus 150, the over at plus 125. 10:11 Basically, to summarize- We'll call it five. We'll pull Fezzik and call it five. No, it's, it's fine. It's what it is. A 5.1. A fi- [laughs] That's right. Fezzik would say, "It's a 5.1, clearly." 10:19 Um, basically the deal- the dealio is as bad as they were, and by the way, Deshaun Watson, when he was in, 42nd out of 42 quarterbacks in success rate in EPA, in case you, uh, long for the Deshaun Watson era. 10:31 Um, but it is Flacco with Dylan Gabriel as, as QB2. That was announced yesterday as well. Mm-hmm. Shador is QB3. No Kenny Pickett. Uh, as bad as they were last year, everything broke against them. 10:42 They were probably about a game and a half better than they were in the standings, basically. So bad still, yes, but not as bad. And then this year, the schedule, they had a very difficult schedule the last two years. 10:55 This year, um, they face eight of the top 10 Super Bowl teams by current odds. Um, you know, they, it's just as, it's just as hard, and right out of the gates, right? Cincinnati, Baltimore, Green Bay, and Detroit. 11:09 Good God. You're Cleveland Browns. So is there a bet, let's just cut to the chase. Is, is this a division where there's a bet for you on any of the teams? Um, no, there is not. Let me double check. 11:20 No, but many, many schedule notes, right? This is both Steelers and Ravens, big notes written down on calendars for me. Okay. Um- Trying to... Yeah, yeah, I don't have any, any other bets. It's interesting, man. 11:31 The alt season wins, right to the NFC North I wind at the bottom of that division. And then certain divisions you just wanna steer clear of in, in lots of categories. This one's, like, not... 11:40 I think there's some, though, that are tough and confusing. Yeah. To me, this wasn't confusing. We know one, two, three, and four. You're convinced of that? Yeah, I think so. 11:48 JBT, college football thoughts and beyond next. Back on the numbers game, live from Circa Resort Casino, downtown Las Vegas. Gil Alexander, Kelly Midland. 13:07 And with us in studio, co-host of Money Moves, which he does with Stormy Bonta every weekday. Uh, starts an hour after we're done, so let me do the, uh, the quick math on that. 13:17 That would be, uh, 2:00 PM p- uh, 2:00 PM Eastern. Well done. [clapping] 11:00 AM Pacific. Nailed it. Yeah, I was gonna say 11:00 Pacific. 13:27 It is the dead zone though, not, like, for our audience, but in that I think so many of us as sports fans understand the easy conversions of Eastern Time, when we're talking about in NFL blocks, right? You know? 13:36 Uh, we have the 10 to one. Yes. We have the one to four, we have the five to eight. 11 to two gets me every time. [laughs] Can't do it. Can't do it. That's a- It is a mental block... 13:46 the, uh, the other thing is when you're scheduling guests who come from the different time zones, the one that always gets me is we have Dr. Bob is in the Mountain Time Zone. Oh, I know. 13:55 So e- the one hour for one r- for whatever reason, I get the three and I get the two, but when it comes to one, I'm like, "Wait, is he the one hour?" Yep. I always mess that up for some reason. 14:03 It's our, our buddy Zach Cohen- Yeah... who is, uh, in that area. So, you know, Arizona has that stupid thing where they don't- Oh... don't, they don't do daylight savings time. Whoa, stupid genius. Um, it, conform. 14:11 A- and so, like- [laughs] Conform... there's this thing that, yeah, it's like an hour behind, like what are we doing? What time is it? So luckily Zach is nice enough to always just work on Pacific Time every week. Yes. 14:19 Since we're gonna ask JVT some questions, can I just point out the elephant in the room? Yeah, you're, you're gonna have to. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And K- Kelly is, we were trying a new microphone set up here. 14:26 Kelly is, is, uh, sort of- It's always awkward... sort of Janet Jackson pr- pleasure principle, Bobby Brown, my prerogative kind of thing. I've gotten a lot of comparisons to, uh, Janet Jackson before. 14:35 Yeah, that's right. Yeah. Uh, r- hey, we, we [laughs]... [laughs] Hey, we've always had this problem, though. The three on the desk is clunky with microphones. So I decided to make it easy. 14:44 By the way, I messed up Janet Jackson's Remote Control. You, you, you and JVT can just easily look at each other without me having to do the, like- Yeah... the thing at the bar. Oh, yeah... 14:50 the p- you know, like you're the middle guy at the bar, you can't figure out. Well, I also hate 'cause I don't know if you've noticed, but I'm not small. 14:55 And so, like, when I have Stormy, who's not exactly, like, small either, but still it's like Stormy- I'm sorry, what?... me in the middle, and then, like, whoever else joins us on set, like I- I- R- exactly. Yeah... 15:06 with that, I don't know what I'm supposed to do. It's tough. Now I'm just hanging back, everybody can see each other just fine. 15:10 This is, this is our on-air request for let's get some, like, real mic arms in here and maybe a cough button or two, but that's just me. Uh, give me the Jonathan Von Tobel NFL... 15:19 I think I probably asked you this at some point this summer, but I wanna ask you before the season starts again, the most outlying JVT opinion based on what you've heard incoming consensus-wise. I mean, 15:32 I, I am met with, I don't know if this is outlier, but I am met with some shock when I express that I don't like the Texans this year. Ooh, he loves the Texans. Um, okay. Yeah. It's like, so I think that's that. 15:41 Like, even in our draft, uh, one of my alternate win total unders was Texans under eight and a half. Uh, and I think we're starting to get in that direction. 15:48 I think their offensive line got worse, and it was very bad last year. One of the top offensive lines, or bottom if you wanna look at it from that perspective, in terms of pressures allowed. C.J. 15:56 Stroud was getting murdered back there. 15:58 Uh, when you look at their running back position, the way it breaks down right now, your, looks like your rookie, um, [smacks lips] Woody, uh, can't remember his last name, but the USC rookie running back is gonna be there, starting running back for them week one potentially. 16:08 Because Nick Chubb, I don't think is the same guy. We've talked to people in Cleveland on Money Moves that have said- Yep. Yeah... like, "John, like, I don't know, man. Like, we saw him out there." Mm-hmm. 16:14 "It doesn't really look like the same dude. We know what's going on with Joe Mixon." 16:17 So if they have shoddy offense line protection and a running game that is hit or miss in however that's going to look, I just think there's a reality where their defense is maybe just as good as it was last year, but their offense might be really middle of the pack to below average. 16:29 And in a division where I think you can throw any one of these teams in a hat, yes, that includes the Colts, and pull one out and go, "Hey, this is your division champ," would you be astonished that any one of these four won the AFC South? 16:40 I include Tennessee in that too. We have seen each of the last two years a rookie quarterback take a team that was floating around four or five wins to a division title, C.J. Stroud among them. 16:49 So I think there's a lot of parity in this division. Now, where it ultimately lands me is I think the Jags are the team in the division. I have bet them to win the, uh, the AFC South. 16:57 I have bet a one-two exact the Jags Colts, uh, for the AFC South as well. But I, I'm, I'm... It all stems from being anti-Houston this year. 17:05 I don't think that they're going to be a team that the market expects them to be. 17:08 And to answer your question, no, I would not be astonished, and I, I'm sure there's a big percentage of the audience listening who are like, "What do you mean you wouldn't be astonished? 17:15 Tennessee's terrible, and, and, uh, you know, that, that can't possibly happen." But, but that would... If, if we are astonished, then it means we're way too confident about all our opinions- Yeah... on all these teams. 17:27 And so I... You can't be astonished, in a, in a division like that anyway. And by the way, we just did the, uh, AFC North, where we were talking about, uh, can you name the one, two, three, four? 17:34 Is it Baltimore, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, uh, and Cleveland? I don't think I can, 'cause you and I, and you were, you're simpatico with me on this, you're higher on Pittsburgh than most as well. 17:44 I, I think I'm more of, like, you know, I get it. I, I- Yeah... I came into the off-season going, [scoffs] "Pittsburgh," like- Right... winning seasons, all this nonsense. 17:52 But the more you look at what they've invested in their defensive backfield, I, I've... It's funny. I, I get, I get very, I guess angry is the right term. 17:59 When we start making disingenuous arguments, when I say like we, I find myself being like, "Well, guys, what about this?" Like, I, I don't think we're... to the point where then I become an ardent defender of somebody. 18:08 Right. And so I've- Right. That's fair... come that way with Aaron. Right? Yeah. 18:10 So I've become that way with Aaron Rodgers, which is- And, uh, they, he was kind of blamed for everything last year, when when you look at him statistically across the board, he was an average quarterback- Average... 18:20 and in some categories slightly above average. In other words, he wasn't really that bad. 18:23 And so if you just get average quarterback play for a Pittsburgh team that has eked out winning seasons, getting to the playoffs, then I think there's a reality where they find themselves higher in the standings than I think most expect them to. 18:36 Having said that, I was making this argument the other day after watching Cincinnati and still feeling what I feel about Pittsburgh, shouldn't the argument be that maybe the Ravens should be over two dollars to win this division? 18:46 I, I think that they are clearly the best team in the NFL from a power rating standpoint. They're a very complete roster. The teams in their division have flaws. We don't need to discuss the ones with the Browns. 18:56 The Steelers do have a very old quarterback. The Bengals, we know exactly what's going on with them. 19:01 Shouldn't this be a team that maybe is rated higher to win this division, and that what we think about the AFC North in the past is what is making this price so cheap for Baltimore? 19:10 It's, it's a great point, and I find myself nodding to all that. You're right. Yeah. Yeah. Yep. Now, if I was a Steelers fan, I'd be a little concerned about Aaron Rodgers coming to town. 19:19 I think Aaron Rodgers' play last year was fine at times, but I mean, geez, how, how, how far did he set back that Jets team? 19:25 I, I, you're talking about, uh, young players that they were all excited about, coach, uh, coaching that- Yeah... a coach that got fired because of the guy. 19:32 The guy came in and ran the entire, entire team, which is weird. It was- Say, say, say one small step for man, one giant step for mankind. Can I say it right now? [laughs] That's what it sounds like. Well- Yeah... 19:41 oh, so it does sound good? Well, no, it sounds like you're from, you're on the moon right now. I, I will say- Yeah. Yeah... 19:45 can I, uh, to, to build off of that, like, to go back to your original question of outlier- Yes... uh, opinions, I do think the Jets aren't as bad as we think they're going to be. 19:53 I do find it interesting that narratively a year ago this was a nine-and-a-half win total playoff team- Sure... 19:58 maybe competing for an AFC, and now Aaron Rodgers is gone, and it's a bunch of bums that are going to be a, the laughing stock of the NFL. 20:06 The reality is they still have very good defensive pieces that I think Aaron Glenn can get the most out of. They have Garrett Wilson. They've got good skill position talent, not great, but good. 20:16 If you get, again, just a baseline of quarterback play that's floating around average, I think the talent enough is there. In fact, they were one of my alternate win totals over in the draft. 20:25 I think that there's something there with this Jets team that we're maybe underselling. This also ties into my disdain for the Dolphins in the big picture. 20:31 I think that there's a very strong chance that this Dolphins team falls apart. McDaniel's is out, and we're looking at them much lower and closer to a first overall pick than I think many expected this year. 20:40 If it does go bad, he is definitely, McDaniel's definitely a first coach fired candidate. Yeah. Yeah, we were talking about that- If it, if it- It's like even money, right?... with Matt Sic over the weekend- Yeah... 20:47 and having some drinks after the, the panel here. Yeah. Yeah, we were talking about that. Yeah, uh, he should be. Look, he's not... 20:51 I, I sent it to you, Andrew, the picture of him after the preseason game where he's got like the rolled up- Yeah [laughs]... sweatpants and he's in his hoodie. Some pre pants. Yeah. And I just put leader of men. 20:59 [laughs] Well, but you know what? I've said this before, uh, a- also on a numbers game and I think on the podcast as well, where I do think that the nerdiness thing, the quirkiness- Yeah... 21:07 if you will, is great when things are going well. Mm. But when they go bad, people love to jump on that, right? It's, it's a very quick negative turn. I mean, think about what we know about the Dolphins too. Yeah. 21:18 I- in his, in his past and in his tenure, they are front runners when it comes to beating up on bad teams. Yeah. And then when they play the good teams- Yep... it's like they're completely lost. 21:26 And he deserves criticism for being an offensive mind. I will always invoke this. We don't give Matt LaFleur enough credit for how good he is in comparison with McDaniel- Agreed... 21:35 and where he is thought of as an offensive genius. Yes. Whenever, when... LaFleur made Malik Willis look great. Three and 0 with Malik Willis. Yes, correct. And then you get McDaniel, any time Tua goes down- Oh... 21:45 it is a sheer drop-off of offensive play. That's right. And he looks like he has no idea how to handle the backup quarterback position. Oh, there was that, that night game where your s- I was screaming at the TV- Yep... 21:54 like, "Bro," like, "why? You have to adjust." Who was the quarterback that game? I think it was, was it Huntley? Is that the Monday night game? It was Snoop, it was Snoop Huntley. 22:00 I believe it's against the Titans, wasn't it? That's right. Oh, that was brutal. Yeah. Yes, against the Titans, where that weird onside kick thing happened. Yeah. Yeah. 22:06 Uh, I didn't think we were gonna only have 90 seconds left, but give me your, your favorite college football play this week and maybe an Ohio State Texas thought. So a couple of them have moved. 22:13 Uh, I will say this, uh, this has been my hot-ish take. I think Texas is favored by the time we get to kickoff on Saturday. Wow. I don't think by much. I mean, we're still, like, some spots are, like, one and a half now. 22:22 They'll just flip. So, yeah, I think it'll just flip to maybe Texas- Yeah... minus one, so go out and grab that now. I bet a couple of unders. 22:27 You'll have to give me the updated, uh, numbers if you have it in front of you. Uh, I bet the Oregon Cal, uh, game, or excuse me, Oregon State Cal game under the total of 51. 22:35 I think we're floating around 50 now, fif- 49 and a half. Uh, some reports out there that Oregon State's best wide receiver out, not gonna play. 22:42 I think it's gonna be kind of a rock 'em, sock 'em, run the ball, time of possession sort of deal. Uh, same thing with Fresno State and Georgia Southern. 22:49 I bet that under 52, and I think that's still floating around out there. I haven't checked for a couple of days. Uh, those two, and then took, um, six and a half with South Florida. 22:57 You coulda gotten the best of the number m- you know, way back in May and all that kind of stuff. But, uh, I'm not a believer in Boise State in terms of the big picture. 23:05 They still should probably run away with the Mountain West after what, we just saw over the weekend, but I, I wanna test the theory that they're not as good from a rating standpoint that the market believes them to be. 23:13 Dr. Bob was on yesterday. He has Texas three points better than the next best team. Yeah. What do you think about that? Uh, I think that makes sense if Arch Manning is what we expect him to be. If he is. 23:21 That, that, that's the big if. Yeah. But it seems that he is going to be just that. So if that hits, I think it makes all the sense in the world. 23:27 Jonathan Bond Tobel, co-host with Stormy Bonta Tony, Money Moves, 2:00 PM Eastern, 11:00 AM Pacific, each and every Monday through Friday right here on VSiN. Oh, no, it didn't. Uh, SuperJerk. There were issues this morning. Oh, yeah, I think it's, it's, it's on the fritz now. 24:42 It's on the Taylor fritz. On the fritz. Uh, this is from, uh, SuperJerk. Oh, SuperJerk chiming in. He says [laughs]... He said, uh, he goes, "Take it from a guy who was born in Cincinnati, they suck." 24:54 [laughs] That's his take on it. Nate Green- He's always positive. He's always positive. Nate Green, "Me realizing that a week from now I'll be listening to the Megapod, getting ready to fire it on the NFL. Can't wait." 25:04 Oh, [laughs] and PGHPLS has a request for Michael Montesano, "Gas up our guy Cade, please." Ladies and gentlemen, in studio with us, uh, the original Circa Booby Prize winner. 25:16 He won $100,000 for finishing with the worst record- Way to go... in Circa Millions. But it was by design after a certain point. He didn't just land there not trying to be there. It's Michael Montesano. 25:26 You can follow him on Twitter at BetsAndReps. You'll notice he's never seen a gym in his life. [laughs] How you doing, Mike? Very well, thank you very much for having me. 25:34 And that year that I won the Booby Prize, I also finished 47th in the c- And they paid out in the top 50. It wasn't a lot, but it was 47th in my oth- other entry. So you- Oh. Oh. I don't- There you go... 25:45 I don't, I forgot about that detail. It was the f- Me too... it was the old flip. Yeah. Remember I was like, "Okay, I think I could still maybe..." After the first week or two, didn't do so well. 25:52 I said, "Well, if I flip them, I can still make a run," and I don't know where it's gon- or how... You know, if I'll get close to the Booby Prize, and then it started to really escalate. Yeah. 26:00 And, you know, I was getting, you know, the ones that I wanted to win, it was flipping, it was losing, and then it just all worked out. 26:07 Then I had to go 5-0, 0-5, however you look at it, to win the Booby Prize- And you did... and to get into the top 40, top- And that's what you did- Wow... the last week. Yeah. Wow. Yeah. 26:16 Wait, so you had to run pure on both entries? You had, you had to go- I s-... 5-0 both entries, basically? Yeah, I mean, 0 and f- you go 5-0- Right, 0 and 5 and 0 and 5... and then flip it. Yeah. 26:24 You go 0-5 and keep- Well, he went up on each. Yeah, up, up. Oh, he went up. Yeah, I went up on all of them. Um, before we get to football, do you wanna, do you wanna take the, uh, the bait here? 26:31 Gas up our guy Cade, please. Can you explain what that is to folks? Yeah, I mean, in early May, um, he was getting called up. I've been following him, uh, you know- Oh, Cade Horton. Yeah... 26:41 Cade Horton, been following the minor leagues. And, uh, I saw a rogue 150 to 1 at w- you know, at a sports book. I jumped on it of, you know, for everyone. I didn't... 26:51 I was limited, [laughs] you know, so, uh, I wasn't able to get a huge bet on it, and I think I texted you that I, that I t- that I took him. And then I took him again at 30 to 1. 27:02 And, you know, he didn't get off to the greatest of starts, and they were really limiting his innings and his pitch count. 27:08 But since the All-Star break, he has absolutely taken off, and, um, he deserves to be in the top two or three contention for Rookie of the Year. He's the sure shot winner. It's a long way to go. I mean, he's- Yeah... 27:20 he, he can't really have too many hook, uh, too many, uh, mess-ups along the way, but, um, he's, he's been great. Ca- Cade Horton plus 150, Isaac Collins plus 185, Drake Baldwin plus 210. Yeah. Wow. 27:33 Yeah, and I, and I'm following Isaac Collins and Drake Baldwin every single day. Hoping for the worst. Hoping for the worst. [laughs] And Baldwin the last couple days has done okay. Yeah. 27:41 Um, but a- again, this is, this award's gonna be won in, in September. Who's gonna, who can, you know, take the lead and- What's the biggest future you've hit in the recent years? 'Cause you, 'cause Kelly- Yeah... 27:51 and I, w- we can, we can agree on this. We get more random futures texts from you than any- No... than any other human. [laughs] I, I was trying- What's-... to stay quiet while he was like, "You might remember I texted." 28:02 Like, no, I do not remember, Mike. [laughs] We've got a lot of awards texts from you. I, I think I texted Gil individually on that one. So, but- Yeah... um, the biggest one recently, I had Florida 60 to 1. 28:12 Um- March Madness? Yeah. Yep. March Madness. I had Joe Flacco Comeback Player of the Year, 50 to 1. That was the most surprising one. That was the most surprising one. Yeah. 28:20 I did have Nas Reed a couple years ago, 50 to 1. Um, last year I did really well in the baseball futures. I had Louise Heal 22 to 1. I had Chris Sale 20 to 1. So it's- Man... 28:33 it's, the last few years have been w- have done well. The MLB futures this year, I'm, it's, it's, uh, it's Cade Horton or it's, it's bust for all the other ones. 28:40 All right, you said, before we get to college football, you said you had an NFL season long that you wanted to share. 28:45 I do, and I was listening to your alt, uh, alt plays today, and I was praying you didn't take mine, and you didn't. I have an alt under on the New York Jets, uh- Ooh... under five and a half. 28:54 I, Circa has them at plus 135. I got them at plus 145. They won five games last year with Aaron Rodgers, and I don't think they really upgraded at the quarterback position with Justin Fields. 29:06 Their schedule, eh, is manageable, 18th, um, per my ratings. Um, but are they f- really favored in a lot of games this year? I didn't see it. No. I didn't see it. 29:16 And, uh, you know, I'm not a fan of defensive coaches coming in, and usually offense struggles the first year. I just don't see the weapons. 29:24 I mean, Garrett Wilson's great, but who's gonna, is Fields gonna get him the ball? I don't, I don't know. So I just don't see the offense that great. So I did take them all under, under five and a half. 29:32 Is, [laughs] is Fields gonna get him the ball? That would be the question. [laughs] Yeah. We should have just taken the segment off. Could have had JVT sit here, and they could have just debated. Oh. 29:39 Yeah, debated the Jets. Points, counterpoints. Yeah, yeah, point, counterpoint, yeah. Yeah, on the Jets. Okay, to college football. You have some serious thoughts on college football here. Yeah. Um, I have three futures. 29:49 Hopefully, uh- Oh... none of the three will end up as the runner-ups. That's right. This is our annual Michael Montesano Pick the Runner-Up segment. Yeah, it was great. I had all thr- I, I, last year I was on your show. 29:58 I had three conference futures. I had Iowa State at plus 950, uh, Lafayette plus 675, and I, I could be off by a few, and I had Miami of Ohio plus 350, and all three get to the title game. Oh. 30:11 All three were favored- Oh... except I think it closed where Iowa State was, it was a pick them against Arizona. All three, you know, at least, and they all got destroyed. 30:20 What a brutal- Absolutely destroyed Three set up perfectly. Three set up perfectly. Yeah, and you're right. All, uh, maybe al- I think all three were favorites. You might, it was- All three. Oh, yeah Yeah... 30:28 Miami of Ohio was the, was the- And they all got crushed... just crushed. Yeah. Just crushed. All right. Let's, let's go another run at it. All right, let's go this year. We're gonna go to the Big 12. 30:35 I, I did a, I did a half unit on each of the, uh, and they don't play each other during the regular season, which works out nice. I've got Texas Tech. Um, I took these, a lot of these plays back in, um, July. 30:48 I checked the numbers. They're still relatively the same. Texas Tech plus 650, but I, I, you know, the market seems to like Texas Tech right now. They're down a little bit. Um, might be plus 575. Still worth a play. 30:58 And I also have Baylor at seven to one. I think Circa has them at 750. Um, Texas Tech, I mean, I don't really wanna beat a dead horse. So many, um, people have talked about them already. Number one in roster strength. 31:11 I am buying into the hype of their transfer portal, um, which was number one. And in conference, uh, play I have them, uh, on, on average of being favored by 5.4 points per game. 31:23 They do play four bottom tier teams; Oklahoma State, BYU, UCF, and West Virginia. Um, Kansas looks improved. They have them as well, but I just, I like the makeup of that team. 31:34 Baylor, uh, third in the conference in returning production. Uh, offense super explosive. High continuity, uh, from last year ba- that's back with Sawyer Robertson as the QB. 31:46 Four manageable road games: Okie State, TCU, Cincinnati, and Arizona. They do get their tough games at home: Arizona State, um, Kansas State, and Utah. So I did a spl- uh, split... 31:57 Maybe they can both play each other in the, in the, in the championship and this is back- That way you can't get crushed... that way I can't get crushed. I would, yeah. That way I can't get crushed. 32:03 Texas Tech six to one to win the Big 12, Baylor seven to one. Yep. Man, UCF 55 to one and they're laying 21 points tomorrow night? All right. Yeah. College football, it is what it is. It is what it is. 32:15 [laughs] All right, you got one more? I got two more. Two more. I'll go quickly. I got, go to the American Conference. I'm gonna take the favorite Tulane. I know a lot of, a lot are, people are down on them this year. 32:24 Their quarterback situation is a little bit sketchy. Uh, they do have the transfer kid from BYU come in. Yes. 32:31 I downgraded them three and a half points from last year's, uh, final power rating, and I still have them as the best team in the conference. 32:38 Um, they are, the, the, you know, they lost a lot in re- in production, but they, they gained back. So I use, like, a net production rating, um, when you, when you talk about adjusted returning production. 32:48 Their schedule is decent, uh, with the exception of back to back road games at UTSA. But I know Dr. Bob is down a little bit on UTSA, but Chris Felica likes UT- UTSA. That's right. [laughs] And Memphis. 33:00 Um, so those are gonna be some tough road games. Um, but you know, I like 'em. I have them, I have them at 7.0 conference, 7.0 conference wins per my ratings, and they did lose in the championship game last year to Army. 33:15 I think they have the best coach in the conference in, in John Summerall. He did an amazing job at Troy, and he'll, he'll mold them together and get to the, get to the champ- They are the favorite. 33:24 I, I got 'em at three to one. They are at plus 375 and plus 325 at, at, at places right now. Yeah. Yeah, plus 320 at DraftKings right now. Jake Retzlaff with a no-no at BYU. Yeah, can't do that. Can't do that. Yeah. 33:35 Can't do that. All right, last one. All right, last one. We'll go to the Sun Belt Conference and, uh, we'll go, we're, we're gonna take James Madison to win the Sun Belt. 33:44 Again, back in, in July they were, they were plus 290 to win it. I do see plus 260 out there. Circa, uh, has plus 190, so shop around. Oh. 33:54 They are five points better than the second-best team in the Sun Belt Conference, um, west, or east, excuse me. Uh, and the second-best team is Georgia Southern. 34:02 I do that, I have them six points better than the best team in the south, in the Sun Belt Conference west, South Alabama. I have them on average, uh, favored by 10 points per game in conference play. 34:14 Number one in roster strength. Number... I- in the, in the conference, they have the best coach in the conference, uh, Bob Chesney, who did wonders at, at, uh, at, um, Holy Cross. 34:24 And don't forget, they did beat North Carolina in North Carolina last year, 70 to 50. So we're gonna take James Madison to win the Sun. 34:31 James Madison to win the Sun Belt, Tulane to win the American, and Texas Tech and Baylor splitting bets to win the Big 12. Michael Monosono, bets and reps on Twitter. Thank you, buddy. Thank you. Appreciate it. 34:41 Thanks, y'all. We'll recap all the bets next. [upbeat music] A Numbers Game on VSiN, the sports betting network. 34:56 Back on The Numbers Game live from Circa Resort Casino in downtown Las Vegas. Gil Alexander and Kelly Bidler back in his normal chair. We get tweets and beaties both. 35:04 Brian Morianan, "A look at Kelly at Wimbledon, just not white-haired and bearded." Oh, he's got the, uh, picture of the old guy from Jurassic Park. 35:11 [laughs] Mike ZillsDuke90, "Somewhere Todd Wishnam is laughing as a torn Achilles guy, Gil, is making fun of Aaron Rogers and his torn Achilles for having poor mobility." I see what you did there. 35:24 Uncle Bush, "JB, you may not recall, but I asked your expert advice on US Open tickets, and I'm happy to say, based on your suggestion, I will be in attendance this Friday night session. 35:32 Arthur Ashe, US Open, let's ride." Good for you, Uncle Bush. 35:36 Uh, Brian M also adds, "I think the man in the middle of the three shot needs the Michael Buffer treatment with the microphone from the ceiling," which is- Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Mm-hmm. Isaiah, add that. 35:45 Add that. That'd be great. Oh, I see- And he, he's working on my Telestrator still. I've been promised this for a year so I can circle things on graphics. A Telestrator. [laughs] Yeah, yeah. Like, it'd be nice, right? 35:54 Like, when we're talking about odds, to be able to circle something on the screen so people can tell, uh, see what we're talking about. But yes, I like the idea of the mic just lowering. That would be great. 36:02 I can just grab it. D Roma, "The guns were out this morning," talking about Monosono, who was just on set with us. And Stringfellow Hawk, I'm glad you reminded me of this 'cause I wanted to say this all morning. 36:10 Uh, did you see this? He goes, "Mentioned teasers yesterday. DraftKing has gone, DraftKings has gone to minus 135 on six-point teasers- Ouch... from minus 120 last season." 36:23 DraftKings This is just me and you talking here. This was your one redeemable quality- Yeah... that you had minus 120 teasers. Now you're minus 135. Really? Really? This is what you're doing? This is what you're doing? 36:34 Okay. The other one I can't, like, can't decide how much this plays in. I'm sure somebody's wr- uh, written about it, but have you seen some of the updated Illinois, like, tax 36:46 stuff that they were doing, maybe like the fees per bets? No, I try to avoid it to be honest with you. Okay, okay. So no, but like this m- I actually feel a little better. When I saw- Yeah... 36:53 the full breakdown of how book- each book was gonna handle it, I don't know when we first got this news that I, that I knew there was an option for the books to just up their minimum bet and they're gonna pay o- pay it themselves 'cause that's what some of them are doing. 37:08 Oh, okay. So like Sur- I think Circa's doing it. It's a $10 minimum bet. The most rest of them are like $5 and $2, but like, like are we really out there betting $1 bets all the time? Just up the minimum. 37:19 GWK1313, "Tennis bets please. I was driving." Funny you should mention. Let's recap all the bets from the show, and we got a bunch. We got, we got more bets... 37:28 I'm w- we may have set a record for most bets on a show today. Oh, maybe 'cause we went to three hours. [laughs] Maybe that's part of it. I mean, that, that- That's part of it... I, I, if it's not today, Gil- Yeah. 37:36 [laughs]... I guarantee you we break that record this year. Uh, here are the tennis bets. None have started yet, 'cause you know how tennis courts, uh, work. They're not available until the match before you is done. 37:45 Francisco Comasana plus 174 versus Cam Norrie. These are all available overnight to VSiN Pro subscribers. 37:53 Adrian Mannarino, big favorite, minus 181 versus the American Jordan Thompson, and Benjamin Bonzi minus 105 versus Marcos Giron. Those are on the men's side. 38:01 Taylor Townsend on the ladies' side plus 106 versus Jelena Ostapenko, the hamburger. Comasana, Mannarino, Bonzi, and Townsend. Also, of course, here's an update on the, again, a reminder of the pre-flop futures. 38:15 Iga to win at plus 352, Iga to win her half at minus 105. I didn't get as good a number as you guys got on that. And then Carolina Muchova to win her quarter Q3 at 14 to 1. Kelly Midland. 38:24 Well, what, didn't we get a message this morning it was still plus money over at Caesars? You can just go for a walk this afternoon. Iga, Iga to win her half, yeah. A- a- add, add to it. 38:32 So yeah, I'm in, I'm in with you on Iga. Bet the Lib- uh, BetLiberty too yesterday morning plus 240 to win the WNBA final. It's a little tennis and a little WNBA for me. You don't get that often. No. 38:42 Uh, on this list tomorrow, I haven't bet it yet so I will not put it on this list, Panthers under six and a half. Okay. Wow. I'm making the dive. Greg Peterson hoops all over the baseball card today. 38:53 Rays/Guardians over eight. Phillies money line plus 135. He's also got the over in the Phillies/Mets game, over eight and a half. Brewers minus 134. 39:00 He's also on the over in the Diamondbacks/Brewers game, over eight and a half. Royals minus 20. Minus 120, pardon me. Royals/White Sox under eight and a half. So with a few of these he's got both the side and the total. 39:12 Uh, Greg went on to say with his picks Mariners on the money line minus 136, and then the Red Sox/Orioles over nine even money, and then the Royals minus 132 in their game today. 39:24 I think I left off Cubs or something, but go to vsin.com. You, you left off something. You can get everything that Greg, uh, bet. Yeah, that's right. I think you left off one of them or something. Yeah. 39:31 Uh, Pete Fewtech, he likes the Hurricane plus two and a half, uh, this weekend. He's feeling Miami against Notre Dame. And then on the, uh, LSU/Clemson game he's got the over, 57 and a half from Mr. Fewtech. 39:44 Uh, we also, uh, heard from JVT in studio. He's on Texas money line plus 102 in the big tilt against Ohio State in the Horseshoe Saturday morning. 39:52 Fresno State/Georgia Southern under 51 and a half, and Oregon State/Cal under 50 and a half. And then finally Michael Montesano in studio, Jets alt under five and a half wins plus 135. 40:04 Then in college football his conference plays of the year, remember he had three big dogs last year and they all finished runners up as favorites in their respective championship games and they got crushed. 40:17 This year Texas Tech and Baylor both to win the Big 12, Texas Tech at plus 650, Baylor at seven to one. Tulane plus 320 to win the AAC, and James Madison plus 260 to win the Sun Belt. 40:28 All of that brought to you by gbank, built with sports bettors in mind. Uh, in addition, Kelly, to the, uh, that, uh, lady talking about pickup basketball- Mm-hmm... and how funny that was, 41:04 did you catch any of the Cam Newton, Joy Taylor podcast? No, not, not at all. Bro. I did see, I did see a couple tweets about it. Bro, this is C- C- Cam Newton. Y- you ever see In Living Color? 41:20 Were you too, were you too young for In Living Color? Nah, I've seen it, I've seen it. So in Living Color- I mean, yes, I was too young. I've seen it... one of its iconic characters was Damon Wayans as a guy- Mm-hmm... 41:28 who was incarcerated but spoke with big English words even though he didn't know what any of them meant. 41:34 That's Cam Newton basically is leaning into Joy Taylor and he's like, "The periphery of the malevolence of Fox Sports." Like, I have no idea what you're saying to her. 41:44 And then she would like, after he would go through this nonsensical question she'd be like, "Yeah, people are sliding into my DMs." [laughs] That was the whole interview. It was hilarious to, to listen to. 41:53 Who hosts that podcast? Cam Newton. He's the host. Oh, oh. I, no, no, no, I meant like what company hosts it? Oh, oh, oh, oh. Good question. Is this, isn't he doing stuff with ESPN? I think he might own it. Yeah. 42:03 'Cause he, 'cause he talks, half the time he's talking about, "I gotta, I own my stuff." He probably is. Yeah. He probably does. He wants to be like a big ti- anyway, it was, it was amazing to watch. Um, [laughs] 42:13 it was just, "Spit it out, Cam. What do you wanna ask her?" You know what I can't get out of my head is Dan- Danny, co-producer Danny- Yeah... 42:20 former, former police officer telling us that they are, they're different cop codes. The, the police codes are not the same in every state. That's right. So Snoop Dogg famously- Lying to us What is it? 42:32 A what, A one, what is it? 187. 187 On the, on the- 187 on the undercover. Okay. Um, so that's not... It's not 187 everywhere? Murder? Apparently, apparently not. I just learn, I'm learning things. Wow. 42:43 Speaking of, uh, cops and law- I thought all those like... Isn't 311 like the band name? I thought it was because it was like streak- or like streaker or something. That's, uh, I thought this stuff was universal. 42:54 I didn't- Now mine's a little blown... I didn't know you were, I didn't know you were fascinated by police codes. Now mine's a little b- I, mine's a little blown. 42:58 This, we should be talking about the Chunnel way more often. The Chunnel? That, that's- It's just a tunnel, man... that's the tunnel in between France and England. It's just a tunnel underwater. 43:07 First- Under the ground, under the water... first brought up by a human being in the early 1800s. 1802. We looked this up. I looked this up. 1802. [laughs] Can you imagine the reaction he got in 1802? No, imagine not. 43:18 Imagine not. "We're going to put a tunnel." [laughs] "I'll call it a Chunnel in between the two countries." It makes no sense. They're like, they, they committed him immediately. 43:25 The, the Wikipedia page is fascinating on the Chunnel. They were working on this for like 200 years. See, this is the show we wanna do. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. 43:33 Um, speaking of, uh, law enforcement, uh, tomorrow Crack will be here. And, uh, this hasn't been cleared yet, so I'm w- I say this, I'm gonna hedge right now. Yeah. 43:44 I, I think this is going to happen, but I don't know with 100% certainty. But tomorrow when Crack is on, um, we are efforting to have Shohei Ohtani's interpreters... Let me, let me be careful- Right, right... 43:56 with my wording. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Shohei Ohtani's interpreter's bookmaker on the show tomorrow for a couple segments. Uh, in fact, Crack did a, uh, podcast with him. Mm-hmm. 44:05 Crack and, uh, John Orlando at Wisecracks, their podcast. They did a whole hour and a half thing with him. 44:10 We can't do that, but, um, if, uh, if the stars align and we're allowed to do this, we're gonna, we're gonna talk to him. That would be awesome. That would be awesome. That would be awesome. 44:22 We'll see how that one plays out. Yeah. You want some, uh, some more NFL news? Sure. Blow out the rundown, Brian Ortega. Chris Ballard says they will not trade Anthony Richardson. 44:33 [laughs] I was like, "Is this Micah news?" By the way, Ben, let's close with that. Uh, and we got, uh, the Patriots picked up Tommy DeVito. So for those of you out there worried about Tommy DeVito, he will be on a team. 44:43 Patriots picked up Tommy DeVito. Yep. And the Colts- On waivers... w- were the Colts getting inundated with requests to go, to see if they'll trade Anthony Richardson? 44:51 I'm sure they were getting more questions, uh, from reporters than actual requests from teams, but I mean, I would've, I would've thrown a r- uh, a trade, a trade at them. Um, Micah Parsons, we close with this. 45:02 Micah Parsons, A, will sign with the Cowboys, B, will not sign with the Cowboys, [upbeat music] and then C, a sort of hedge on A. He will be signed, but he'll, like, barely play the first game. C. 45:13 That's what's, that's what'll happen? Yeah. Okay. There it is. Kelly Billin has spoken. Yep. Uh, listen, I'd like to apologize for Kelly for getting so upset about the Ryder Cup announcement. 45:21 He was a little, uh, he was a little miffed there for a while. He's, he's- Now you're gonna do a podcast about it... now he's gonna go read the Wikipedia Chunnel page again. Prop Points, John Hanson next. 45:31 Enjoy from Visa and the Sports Betting Network.
