Sometimes we hit on these, somet- you know, sometimes they're good to talk about, or I should say they're always good to talk about, but sometimes they lead to bets, sometimes they don't.

Uh, we, may- we might have both of those today. A little later on we will, uh, discuss, uh, yay or nays, can a team win a Super Bowl or not? That's just a sort of opinion-based thing.

But we will also go to the old obscure markets of state, [laughs] states, uh, state. Will the, can an NFL team win a Super Bowl from these states? And there's that whole market, which I find, uh, sort of comical.

But we'll get to that. We'll do it all. We have to begin with what is a just tremendous Thursday Night Football game tonight with so many implications.

Rams at Seahawks, and when it comes to forget about, you know, playoff probability and all this, this is really like a Super Bowl probability game, because this will go a long way towards determining the number one seed.

It is not a determinant, literally, because obviously there's games to be played, and, you know, if a s- if a team like the Seahawks win tonight, teams like the Niners all of a sudden get wide-eyed about a number one seed.

But the number one seed, obviously, at each conference, uh, means so much. You're the only team that gets a bye.

That is the single biggest advantage of the NFL playoffs, and it really is a, uh, a negative feeling kryptonite.

In other words, no matter how you feel about, say, the Denver Broncos, just to use the AFC example of currently who inhabits the number one seed, even if you're negative on them, if they get the number one seed, you have to stop in your tracks and say, "Yeah, but they got the number one seed, so it doesn't matter what I think about them.

They've got this huge advantage." Tonight's game, and typically we'll go through, you know, we, we go through analytics when we talk about Thursday night games.

I will just briefly, but I think, I think this is one of these where it, it, it is really sort of informant, uh, informing to go back to the previous matchup between these two teams when they played in LA, and it wasn't that long ago, right?

Yeah, it feels a lot longer than it was. No. Like five weeks ago. Is that what it was? I believe it's five weeks ago. Craig, it was a week 11. Yeah.

Five weeks ago, these two teams played in Los Angeles at SoFi, and if you recall, the Rams won that game 21 to 19.

However, however, let's review the circumstances of that game, because I do think, you know, well, one, each game is created, uh, is, is its own thing, and not two, and no two games are created equally.

But I do think that there's something to glean from this game. The Rams won 21 to 19, but remember, this was a game where Sam Darnold threw four interceptions. Mm. No touchdowns, four picks.

Two of the Rams' three touchdowns in that ballgame, the starting field position for them, the Seahawks 25 and the Seahawks three. Yeah. I mean, they only had 249 total yards offense.

Stafford only threw for 130 in that ballgame, and those, those short fields were created, [clears throat] pardon me, by Darnold picks. And even with that, right, even with that mi- it was a minus three, I believe.

Yeah, the minus three in turnovers. Four picks for Darnold. The, uh, Rams had one turnover. But even with that disadvantage, if it was not for Ethan Evans' punt late for the Rams- Oh, I forgot about that...

that magically- Yeah... remember, it magically went out exactly at the one-yard line. Ke- Kelly's top five plays of the season that he's forgotten about. Yes. Yes. [laughs] That might be number one. It's up there.

Uh, it was rare that we think about a punt as the biggest thing in this, in this whole thing.

That punt, I mean, if the Rams end up winning tonight, you could actually go back to that punt and say, "That might have been their biggest play of the game." Yeah.

Because they will have, they will have swept the Seahawks largely based on that. Because what happened was they pinned the Seahawks at the one, uh, with 1:41 left in the game.

Seahawks had one timeout left, and the Seahawks were able to get to their own 38 with 17 seconds left, and then there was a PI on the Rams at the 40, at the Rams' 49.

So they did trot out Jason Myers, but it was for a 61-yard field goal that was woefully batted. It wasn't even close. But point being that if it, if the punt had gone out at, say, the, I don't know, 12- Mm-hmm... right?

It's a different story, and the Seahawks win that football game. That's how thin the margin was. That after Sam Darnold threw four picks.

So I've kinda talked myself into, to be honest with you, Kelly, just sort of based on that, the fact that there is no Davante Adams tonight. By the way, there's no Charles Cross either. Sam Darnold's blind side, right?

Uh, oh, actually tonight 10 to 20. So yeah, looking a lot... It, it could go very well weather-wise.

But the point being that early in the week when, you know, this matchup first came up, I'm like, "Well, you know, I think the Rams are the better football team."

And I probably still think the Rams are the better football team. I don't really... That doesn't really change the handicap here, which is short week at Seattle. Maybe m- weather's a thing, maybe it's not.

Rams used to playing in, in more pristine conditions, although there is a, a SoFi not exactly a dome, if you know what I mean, with the, uh, the side parts being open. But I, I have shifted. I lo- I like the Seahawks.

That sort of review of, of that first game kinda talked me into it. Um, and I, and 42 is the, is the total. I would lean under again on this just because when you... And that's when you get to the analytics part of it.

Th- this just might be a matchup issue for the Rams, right?

Like, they, they might be the better football team, but maybe the Seahawks defense is the, uh, the factor in both of these games that will be the overwhelming one.

And, you know, LA enters the d- the, uh, game with the NFL's number two scoring offense. Seattle number two scoring defense. They, uh, allow 17.3 points a game.

Um, both of them in terms of EPA per play to Los Angeles, third best NFL in EPA per play. Uh, Seattle second in the NFL in defense and EPA per play allowed.

Mike McDonald's team excellent against both the run and the pass. Um, league's best rushing defense. I mean, I think that last part is the biggest factor when you look at the, the numbers. Sure.

League's best rushing defense, which again makes the Rams more one-dimensional, and when you don't have Davante, it's super one-dimensional. And when there's, when there's rain and wind, right? Yeah.

You'd like to be able to lean on a running game a little bit more. So I, I, I'm, I'm betting the Seahawks. I have put in a bet.

Um, minus one and a half is what I got, and, uh, I know that's not the best of it, but I was distracted all week, and I really didn't go through that last game, didn't review it.

But that's, that's what I'm on, and I'd lean under. I may have a bet on the under bef- when all is said and done. Yeah, I mean, market swung your way.

I mean, yeah, you might not have the best of it, but you're talking, we're talking pennies, right? Yep. We've moved, we've moved around the zero. It was, you know, Rams one, then Seattle one.

We've got Seattle two here at Circa. Not, not too many twos out there, but there are a couple. Um, yeah, so we've seen Seattle money go that way. I think a lot of the re- uh, a lot because of what you just broke down.

I think good reasoning there. Um, I'm on the under from open. I have 46 and a half. I w- I would still only look under, though, like you're talking about. I mean, the conditions are gonna be out there.

Seattle's defense, not like the Rams' defense is any joke either. I, I had a little bit of concerns over some of the Seattle offense here recently, just from what I've seen with Darnold in the passing game.

Well, the, that's, that is the counter to my argument, right? Yeah. The counter, the counter. I can hear some, some Rams backers out there. And I love your team. Don't get me wrong. You're still number one to me.

But I just think this is a bad sort of situation.

The counter is, okay, well, if you, if you like that first game so much or if you read into that first game so much, what's to make you think [laughs] that Sam Darnold in a big moment, once again, maybe he doesn't have four picks.

Not that we have that this week necessarily, but we certainly will in the next couple weeks, uh, in mass. This will be one of these situations where, you know, what we always say, and I always quote Dr.

Bob on this, "Hey, if a team's in a must-win situation, they must not be that good," right? It's sort of the counter to what the connotation is when they talk about it on mainstream media.

They're like, "Oh, a must-win situation. That means it just means more to them. You should really look at this team, you know, as, as having this s- this kind of qu- you know, qu- non-quantitative edge."

And Brian, ChiCityBrian sort of backs up our numbers, which he says, "Here is the, here is the, uh, eliminated team versus a must-win team." Let's just take that subset, 'cause this is not even a team that's in it.

This is with, uh, with the Patriots, it's the game version. They lost to the Raiders week one, and you think, "Oh, that game won't come back to haunt them."

They have been just crushing really easy opponents the last four weeks, but they have some good wins of earlier in the year. It's just that they're, at some point they're gonna be on the road.

They would lose a tiebreaker to Houston for the division, by the way, as well. Uh, they split the head-to-head.

Houston has a better potential division record, potential, and crucially, the Texans would have the advantage in common opponents tiebreaker as well. So the Jags really have to, they have to win outright.

And let me go back to the Denver thing for a second, 'cause people are like, "Wait, didn't you just say, uh, New England number one seed six to one was the best bet yesterday?" Remem- uh, no, it wasn't number one seed.

Remember, it was m- it was most wins. Mm-hmm. So New England at six to one to get in a dead heat is still the best bet in most wins. Doesn't mean I don't think Denver's getting the number one seed.

And I'll just throw out Broncos eight to one to win the Super Bowl, the Jaguars 16 to 1. Our next team, the New England Patriots, are 15 to 1. Are they a contender, Gil Alexander, yay or nay?
