[upbeat music] The numbers told the story. They always do. It's one of those idiots who believe in analytics. This is a Numbers Game with Gil Alexander on VSiN. 0:46 Hour number two of a Numbers Game at VSiN, the sports betting network, VSiN.com, Game Plus, iHeartRadio, YouTube TV, and of course, SiriusXM Channel 158. Gil Alexander alongside my little buddy Kelly Bidlin- Heyo... 0:59 on this Thursday morning, um, with a phenomenal Thursday Night Football game with huge, huge implications tonight between the Rams and the Seahawks. By the way, once again, this hour is brought to you by Betr, B-E-T-R. 1:14 Betr Picks is the daily fantasy sports app where your sports knowledge turns into real cash, and fast. By the way, uh, QR codes, interesting history, right? Remember they popped on the scene, I wanna say, in like the, uh, the 2009, 2010 time, 1:39 that, that range of years. And then they sort of disappeared for years, and then they came back strong. Somebody was like, "Remember those QR codes? I think, I think, I think we can use them now again." Dude, weren't... 1:49 No, I think, I think... Well, first of all, fascinating topic. I'm glad you brought this up. But I, I think you're even off in the, the first part. I think it was earlier than that. Maybe it was. 1:57 I think I remember them on CDs. Oh, that could be. I mean, maybe not like early '90s- Oh, no, no, no... but it might have been like late '90s, early 2000s. Early 2000. I don't think it was '90s, no do. 2:06 But you're totally right, then they disappeared, and then it like- Yep... and then it became a cell phone thing, right? It was, it's scan the QR code. It's cool. Uh, we get tweets that beat me to the book. 2:14 Uh, Pick 10 explaining Brian Schaefer's tweet to me. I'm sorry, Brian, I, and, and Pick 10, I didn't get it. What Brian Schaefer was suggesting, he says he wants to change it. 2:24 Basically, he doesn't wanna reward divisions in the same way, is the other way to put this. So in other words, he's saying if you have the two best records, right? 2:32 If you're the Rams and the Seahawks, you end up with the two best records, in the N- the way that the NFL format is structured, they will have to play each other in the divisional round, right? As opposed to, 2:47 you know, having to wait to play, and each team would have an easier path. 2:51 But the NFL, unlike the NBA, 'cause you're right, in the NBA, they don't care about the, uh, Southeast Division, Kelly's favorite division in the NFL. Yeah. Let's go. Right? 2:59 It, i- or whatever, like, the worst division winner is. In the NFL, they have always been very steadfast with, "Nope, we play divisions, and therefore you must reward the division winner with a home playoff game." 3:10 And I know the, I know y'all feel that way, but it's kind of... I don't hate it. I kinda like it. I think it adds an interesting- Oh, me too. Yeah... 3:18 I think it adds an interesting element to it because then you get a first round, right? You get a wildcard playoff game where the number four division winner typically is not very good. Same thing this year, right? 3:29 It's either gonna be Tampa Bay or Carolina in the NFC. It's gonna be Baltimore or Pittsburgh in the AFC. And a road wildcard team will inevitably come in there as a favorite. 3:39 I, I just think it adds for an interesting element. I'm not, I'm not, like, super opposed to it. 3:42 Plus, like, I don't know, maybe, maybe this is how cynical I've gotten at this point, but, like, it, it, it, it's removing incentive to tank for some team. M- multiple teams every year, right? 3:52 If you were gonna do it another way, these teams that are battling it out in the NFC South- Right... 3:56 might have a completely different, uh, view on what they should be doing at the end of the season and w- than actually truly competing for a division title and a playoff spot right now. 4:05 James Fessler at Mizzou Soldier: "NFL Draft number one pick long shot. 4:08 If the Fighting Felikas make a run through Texas A&M, Ohio State, Georgia, and win the title with Carson Beck looking amazing, he's the one worth taking. Currently 100 to 1 to be the number one pick in the draft at MGM. 4:19 Only takes one desperate GM." Well, you got that last part right, and that's the thing with NFL drafts. They go quarterback crazy, GMs do, and ri- rightfully so. You're nothing in this league without a great quarterback. 4:31 And so they do. Regardless of how we feel before the draft itself, on draft day, teams are like, "Oh, we gotta get ourselves [laughs] a quarterback no matter what." 4:39 So I, I do think that we have big trade possibilities this year- Yep... obviously with the, uh, the Titans and the Giants in the mix. If it's the Raiders, though, I mean, they're drafting a quarterback, right? 4:49 So we'll, we'll see. Uh, yeah. We shall see. QR codes. Carson Beck may be headed there. Who knows? QR codes invented in 1994. Okay. Fascinating history I just, uh, learned about QR codes. Okay. Yeah. Invented in 1994. 5:02 Why were they invented? Invented in Japan in 1994. Traditional barcodes had limited data, uh, limited data capacity, and couldn't handle Japanese characters- Oh, interesting... which would slow down manufacturing. 5:14 Our little barcodes that we still see on- Yes... on food items and, and drinks. Yeah. Uh-huh. Right. So those got replaced starting in Japan by QR codes. Because you can store more info on them. 5:23 Store more info- That's right... and made their way into music, as you and I were discussing, into the, uh, in the early 2000s. Not limitless info, but it feels like it's almost limitless info on the QR. Yeah. Yeah. 5:31 Okay. There you go. There you go. We all learned something today. Hey, it's all right. We can all go home now. Except we gotta do Are We Sure? Let's do it. 5:40 [upbeat music] You think you know what's going on in the sports betting world? Are you sure? I'm positive. Gil and Kelly tackle the hard-hitting questions on another exciting edition of Are We Sure? 5:54 You see what I did there? See what I did there? That was, uh, that was my way of checking to see if those guys were alert again after our excursion to the NBA Cup the other night. I- See if they were back in business... 6:03 I don't know about you, and I cannot speak for the crew, but I feel like a diff- different human being today. Me too. Me too. I feel great today. Yesterday was a little, uh, a little rough. It was tough. 6:12 They were slow on- It was tough... slow on the trigger there on that one. Took, like, three naps yesterday. It was bad. Kept falling asleep. What you got? All right, Gil. Are we sure 6:23 either the Rams or Seahawks will be in the Super Bowl? Um, I am going to say I am sure. Wow. Yeah. I'm gonna say I am sure. 6:34 I- I think it's, I think it's all fun and games while we're talking about the regular season, while we're immersed in the regular season, but I think once the tournament begins, if you will, 6:41 one of those teams is getting to the Super Bowl. I was expecting you to go the other way- Yeah... and me go that way. But yes, I'm sure. Yeah, I'm sure. Been saying it for weeks now. 6:49 It's fun to talk about- Rams, Seahawks... all the other teams, but, uh, I think it's them. And l- the NFC is brutal. 6:54 I'm not gonna say it's gonna be easy, but I still, I still think those are the two best teams in the NFL, period. Think one of 'em makes it there. Yep. With you. 7:01 All right, are we sure JSN will win Offensive Player of the Year? Hmm. Is he minus 350 right now, something like that? E- 475. I was way off. I do agree with the, with the Puka thought, that Puka could 7:16 go crazy tonight, just theoretically. I don't think he will, 'cause Seahawks defense is good and there's no Devante. But in theory could. Am I sure that it's JSN? I'm gonna say yes. I'm gonna say I'm sure. 7:29 I think so, too. Yep. He, and he deserves it, by the way. He really does. He's [laughs] incredible. 7:35 Uh, it's, uh, yeah, I know, I know I keep saying it, but still, the, the most amazing part of his season to me was, like, when we were talking about this team pre-season, it was like, well, okay, quarterback change, you send out Metcalf and Lockett. 7:47 Like, you are really putting a lot- It's amazing... on JSN's shoulders. And oh my God, he's been the best wide receiver in the league. And I know I, it's, it's rare that I keep bringing up interviews that land. 7:57 You know- Yeah, yeah... interviews usually come and go, but this one s- for whatever reason, landed on me the way it did. That interview with Olave, 8:04 Garrett Wilson, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba, and the interviewer, I, forgive me that I don't remember who it was, asked, "Who's the best out of the three of you?" And both Olave and Wilson immediately pointed to JSN. Next. 8:16 Yeah, it was, yeah, uh, it was a good one. All right, are we sure, trying to figure out how to word this on the spot. 8:22 Are we sure, uh, you're out of your mind to be betting anyone else but Myles Garrett to win Defensive Player of the Year? Are you sure? Let me reword all this. Yep, yep. 8:31 Are you sure you're out of your mind to bet anyone else? Yes. Yes. I am sure you are out of your mind to be betting anyone else for Defensive Player of the Year, yes. I, I don't know what... My blood boils. I am sure. 8:41 It, it insults my intelligence, Gil, to see Will Anderson Jr. and Nick Benito have 28 to 1s next to them. Meaning, meaning- Like, this is done. This is done... 8:49 mean- meaning it's too, they're trying to tempt folks to- Yeah, they're trying to tempt people... the right... Yeah. No, it's Myles. 8:53 I- a- into getting a slight long shot play when I don't think they stand any chance whatsoever. Myles Garrett, one sack away from the sack record, tying the sack record of 22 and a half sacks in a season. 9:02 Are we sure the Denver Broncos are the rightful favorite in the AFC? Yes, because they have the inside track to the number one seat, and they have a tiebreaker over the Patriots. So yes, I am sure about that. 9:15 I don't have to love the Broncos to answer yes to that. I was gonna say, but boring, boring. But you're correct. [laughs] You're correct. Sorry. Didn't know- Boring, but you are correct... 9:24 I didn't know, I didn't know I was graded on sexiness of answers. [laughs] What's next? All right, are we sure Philip Rivers will play the rest of the season for the Indianapolis Colts? 9:33 He'll start every game for the rest of the season. I can see your brain going, right. Oh, the way I read that question was, was the Colts part the part I wasn't sure about. 9:40 Yeah, yeah, like, he's not gonna be traded again. All right. [laughs] Yeah. Um, am I sure that he will start the rest of the year for the Colts? Uh, uh, n- no. [laughs] I'm gonna say no. Yeah, I'm gonna go with no too. 9:56 Just because I feel, I feel like something could happen to the guy. I know. I feel, I feel bad. That's the biggest reason why I'm saying it too. Yeah, that's why I'm saying it. 10:02 Okay, do, do we think the Colts intention is to- Yes... Yeah, I think so too. Yes, that's their intention. Yes. I think so too. Yeah. I don't really know why, but- Right... it appears to be. 10:11 Uh, are we sure Tua will be the Dolphins quarterback next season? Nope. That was that for a quick answer. Yes, he will be. Okay. We'll see. Uh- I, I, by the way, I love Tua as a person. I, I hate that this is... 10:27 He's a great kid. Yeah. He, he didn't take the benching well, but he immediately locked back into, like, "Okay, I gotta be a leader now." He's a great kid. But it's just unfortunate what's happened to him. 10:38 I mean, the concussions are a serious matter. They compound, right? Yeah. The second one isn't doubly worse than the first and third one. You know, it, it, it gets w- exponentially worse. 10:48 And you just, you know, want him to be healthy. Sorry the career hasn't been so great. I'm not sure he's their starter next year. Let me, I'm gonna ask you to separate the two, though. It, let me... 10:59 If I told you he never had another concussion again, would you, would you believe in Tua far, far more? No, because I, I just- Okay... I just feel like, again, he doesn't see the... 11:09 I, I know people, there's some people who are like, "Well, it's the concussions. He throws the ball too soon." That's why, and that's why I'm asking. I'm not so, I'm not so sure it's that. 11:15 I, uh, just after all these years, I don't think he sees the field well. Yeah, it's an interesting one to me, 'cause I just, I think there are, 11:24 I, I think there are plenty of worse quarterbacks [laughs] in the NFL- Oh, yeah... that I know are worse. [laughs] Yes, for sure. You know? Right, and it's- For sure. I... 11:31 Does it mean he's leading you to a Super Bowl one day? No. You, you- No, I don't know that... you're asking me if I'm sure. Yeah. I am not sure. 11:36 All right, are we sure Joe Burrow will be the quarterback for the Cincinnati Bengals next season? No, I'm not. 11:42 And I, I, this is, he, they had another sort of thing with this yesterday, you know, after the initial press conference last week where he was sort of conveying that it's not as fun for him anymore, and then yesterday he's, he sort of, 11:54 he made sure that people know, "Yeah, no, man, I just wanna play ball. Everyone... Feels like people are telling me that I sh- you know, not to play ball. I feel like I'm fighting those people." 12:03 It's a very odd answer to the question. I don't know. He's just a, he's just a different kind of dude. Mm-hmm. And so I don't pretend that I can guess along with him. 12:12 So it would not shock me if he decided this off-season, he's like, "I don't wanna play here anymore." Wouldn't shock me. So I'm not sure. Yeah. It's a weird situation, man. Got a few more of those later? Yeah. Yeah. 12:24 We'll work them in later. Zach Cohen on the other side. NBA and NFL next on The Numbers Game. 12:29 [upbeat music] A Numbers Game on VSiN, the sports betting network. Gil Alexander, we had tweets at Beat of the Book. Best listeners in the game. 13:18 Jesse Welch, "I'm gonna need Gilley's top 125 Christmas songs ever. I'll hang up and listen." There it is. And just take the full first hour. Popular demand. Mm-hmm. What did I say? They're demanding it. 13:30 Brian M., "I feel like QR codes made their big resurgence with the COVID menu. Free dining." I think you're right about that. Well, definitely then, yeah. Yeah. 13:37 But don't you feel like they were coming back even before then? Yes. Yeah, I think so, too. I'm, I'm, my timing, the, the pandemic ruined my sense of time. 13:45 I like things that, like, things that didn't really benefit anybody, right? You're like, "Big for QR codes. It was a big year for QR codes." [laughs] The stock on QR codes- Stock went up... way up. Bobby Gettys. 13:56 Thank you, Bobby Gettys, for caring. You seem to be the only one. I'm going to a wedding, a ridiculous December 20th wedding. No, is it in DC? No, I gotta go to the Chesapeake Bay. 14:04 It's planes, trains, and automobiles- Yeah, you gotta... during the college football first round and the Skins game. 14:10 Bobby Gettys says, "Gil, as someone who is down many units with going to 50-plus weddings since COVID, here are my top three sports watching tips at weddings. One, locate the nearest TV first. 14:19 This will be your home base. Two, make sure you have the proper streaming apps downloaded on your phone beforehand. And three, time your, quote-unquote, "bathroom breaks" deliberately during important times of the game. 14:28 Godspeed this weekend." Thank you, Bobby. It's a good list. Bobby, thank you for caring. You sure your books are set up and everything? Coach May 17, the May, "We use QR codes for attendance in class. 14:40 Student walks in, scans the code." What? Pretty sweet. That's badass. Makes a lot of sense. Yes, it is. Huge stock up for QR codes. Uh, Mike Marsh, I've begun to gather my things. 14:49 He says, "QR codes invented in 1994," like you said, Kelly, "by Denso Wave, a Toyota subsidiary, to track auto parts. Designed to store more data and scan faster than barcodes. 14:57 They later released it royalty-free, helping it go global." Man, we learn on this show. Man, they coulda, they coulda gotten so much money if they had just held onto that QR code patent. 15:08 Thank you, I've begun to gather my things. Patent. If that is your real name. Judd O'Connor, "Assuming the Rams in the divi- uh, win the division, are you sure Sam Darnold can go to the Lincoln win on the road?" 15:17 No, I am not. No, absolutely not. No, I am not. The, the, perfect example of a game that I am so, uh, uh, the Eagles so up in the air for me, Gil, I would, I would be staying far away from betting that game. 15:31 3JackH3131, "Kelly forgot to ask, are we sure Gil won't find a way out of this upcoming wedding?" [laughs] I'm s- I'm so locked in. That's pretty good. 15:39 I, by the way, if I, if there was an escape hatch, maybe I would find it. Uh. Ca- can I give a... Oh, okay. Oh. Z- Zach quit on us. He's gonna come back. It's okay. Lachman, "You guys don't know the half of Tua. 15:49 Imagine signing a contract and have the owners take away your trainers. The stuff that made him look like 2023 Tua." There's a little defensive Tua. Yeah. 15:57 Well, like, no- nobody ever, no- nobody's said in quite a while that the Miami Dolphins organization is, uh, fully buttoned up with everything they're doing. 16:04 Billy Charlebois, "I travel once a week, six hours, out of state to place bets. I know zero about college hoops. I blindly followed Greg Peterson yesterday for plus 2.7 units via Numbers Game. 16:14 Thank you so much for the early Christmas. Never blame, but always thank the analysts." There you go. He just say makes, he makes a six-hour drive once a week? Uh. I believe he said that. 16:24 "I travel once a week, six hours, out of state to place bets." Six hours? Where do you live, Billy? Good on you, Billy. Anthony Tritolo, Lakewood Ace. 16:34 "I have no insight on any game or any betting line, but I just wanted to say ANG is the best show on TV, and you and Kelly do a great job. Merry Christmas to all." Thank you, Anthony. Appreciate that. It's very nice. 16:42 Tony? Merry, merry Christmas to you, too. We go Tony. You go- Fake Anthony. He goes Tony? You think- Yeah, I'm gonna go Tony... maybe Anthony's Tony? 16:49 I'm gonna, okay, I'm gonna lead into Zach Cohen here with a great question by Sam Quinn- Okay... from CBS. Yes, sir. It's perfect. It's a little clickbaity. Okay. But it's, but it's true. Oh. It's not just clickbait. 17:00 Are the Atlanta Hawks better without Trae Young? We're about to find out. [laughs] He's making his return. Well, this goes back to, uh, Bill Simmons used to call it the Ewing Theory, right? 17:13 But really, that was his colloquial way of talking about the, the alchemy of basketball. Basketball, there's five dudes on a court, and there is a optimal efficiency. Yep. We've said it many times. 17:24 If you had Magic, Bird, the Big O, Wilt, and Bill Russell as your starting five, you're not scoring 300 points. Just doesn't work that way. 17:32 And so, at least over a short period of time, if you lose your, quote-unquote, "star," you could play better. And the Hawks had been. So we'll see. So we'll see if that lasts now that Trae is back. Yeah. Do we have Zach? 17:44 We do. We do. Oh, Zach Cohen is back. Zach and Crack, half of the Zach and Crack team. Zach joining us, uh, courtesy of the Progressive Guest Line. You can follow him on Twitter at Betting on X. Zach, how you doing, man? 17:55 I'm good. How are you guys doing? Doing very well. Sorry we had that little, uh, snafu there. We were just, uh, filibustering- No worries... before you got here. Let's, let's talk about the NBA, uh, first. Tons of games. 18:05 Uh, the question came up earlier, is there a letdown for teams after the NBA Cup win, in case of the Knicks, finals loss in ca- in, in the case of the Spurs? Well, what did you land on tonight in the NBA? 18:18 I think there has to be a letdown. 18:19 I mean, I actually did end up taking a parlay on the website, uh, where I have the Pacers plus 10 and a half, uh, against the Knicks parlay with the Suns plus eight and a half a little bit later against the Warriors. 18:29 'Cause I do think that Indiana's gonna be able to keep that game close. I just didn't wanna take the four, four and a half. Figured I'd give myself- Coward... a little bit of extra cushion. 18:35 But I do like, uh, a few things in the NBA tonight outside of that, starting with the Nets plus seven and a half at minus 120 against the Heat, who are playing without Tyler Herro tonight. Uh, no Nikola Jovic either. 18:48 Uh, this is a team that also, like it could be without Norman Powell. He's questionable. 18:52 And Brooklyn is four and two, kinda quietly, both straight up and against the spread over the last six games, and defensively they've been really dialed in. 18:59 And this is a team that, you know, over, under Jordi Fernandez, has just been very good at covering against winning teams over the years. 19:06 And I think that it took them some time to kinda get back to being competitive like they were last season, but I think that they are starting to kinda turn a corner now. 19:13 By the way, did you hear Kelly shout coward at you during- Yeah... your whole dissertation right there? Yeah. [laughs] I was ready to lay- I am a coward... I was ready to lay a price too, Zach. 19:21 When I, I was going through my NBA bets earlier, I was like, "You know what? Zach's been on the Pacers even before I was. I bet he's on, I bet he's on them today," and I had not looked at vsin.com. 19:29 [laughs] But yeah, y- you took it the cowardly way out. It's okay. Is this gonna be your new thing, to shout coward at guests now? Just to people I co- Okay... just to the people I really love, like Zach Cohen. 19:38 That'll be s- Okay? That'll be a show. I thought you were just, I thought you were just saying s- Cedric Coward. I thought you were just showing him some love. I don't know. There you go. Oh, there you go. Yeah, yeah. 19:44 Anything else NBA- [laughs]... before we get to, uh, the NFL? I also have the Pelicans plus 10 at minus 108 against the Rockets. It's another one where they've just been quietly really competitive over the last 14 games. 19:55 They're 11 and three against the spread. 19:57 Uh, they've won two games in a row, and they're playing at a very fast pace ever since they kinda moved to Jeremiah Fears and Derek Queen in the starting five, and they now have Zion back as of last game. 20:07 And this Rockets team is going to bully them on the offensive glass a little bit, but I do think Houston prefers to slow this down a- and play, you know, a grind-it-out game. 20:16 New Orleans has no interest in doing that, and Houston has come into this game, uh, s- you know, n- off three straight non-covers. So just a Rockets team that's not playing all that well right now. 20:25 I think it'll end up being a little bit closer than people expect. See, that one you should've s- you should have, uh, shouted courageous. Courageous bet there, Zach. Yeah, that's right. 20:33 I'm there- [laughs] Good call, Zach. Good call. Um- I'm right, I'm with you on that one, Zach... I'm seeing Pistons at Mavs on the screen. You have a play in this game? Yeah, I have the Mavericks plus six. 20:42 I put this in last night, so you're gonna get a better number in, on it than I am. But I'm just hoping AD ends up playing. 20:47 Like, he is questionable tonight with a calf strain, and they've had a few days off, so I'm hoping that he's out there. 20:52 If he is, you're talking about the seventh-ranked defense in the league going against an offense that I do think is somewhat shaky in Detroit. 20:59 I mean, this Pistons team is really good, but I think that Dallas has the length and competitiveness to kinda bother them if AD is out there. 21:06 And offensively, the Mavericks have been way better ever since they kinda, you know, put Ryan Nemard in that rotation. 21:12 So I just think this is a game that could be close, but if AD's not out there, it'll probably be ugly. All right. 21:17 I'm anxious to hear what you say about, what you, uh, have to say about tonight's Thursday night f- uh, football showdown between the Seahawks and the Rams. 21:24 I know you write this up at the website, but let's get your thoughts here. Yeah, I had the Seahawks at plus 100. 21:31 I put that in on Tuesday, and I, I think that this is a game where you just looked at the first meeting between the two, it was a one-possession game despite the fact that Sam Darnold threw four picks. 21:39 And I don't think you're gonna see him play that poorly again. I mean, he has two games this season where he's thrown multiple interceptions, and both of those have come on the road. 21:48 I think playing in a little bit more of a comf- you know, comfortable surroundings, he'll be a little bit cleaner. And I do think that, you know, no Devonte Adams, which seems like it'll be the case. 21:56 I mean, we speculated wrong last week with, with, what was his, A- Amin Rasain Brown. That's right. 22:00 But I do think Adams is gonna miss this game, and I think Witherspoon can cover Nacua, and that kinda takes away a lot for the Rams offensively. And Amanra looked perfect- Yeah... by the way. Yeah, yeah. 22:10 Like, it was like, oh, he was hurt at all? Um, all right, give us one rando Sunday NFL pick that you like. Yeah, I also have the Vikings minus two and a half against the Giants, and I would play the minus three on that. 22:22 Uh, it definitely feels like a little bit of a sucker play, but Minnesota's a top 10 defense again this year. 22:27 I think that they've come on really strong on that, uh, side of the field, uh, this, you know, the last three, four weeks. 22:32 And I think that McCarthy's starting to look a little bit better under center, so I just have full expectation, you know, of them playing a pretty clean game against a Giants team that's really reeling right now. 22:42 I think that, you know, New York's offense is gonna have a lot of trouble moving the ball against Minnesota, and yeah, I think McCarthy does enough for them to win this game by at least a field goal. 22:51 Zach, if I made you go over or under on the total in tonight's game, which would you, which way would you lean? I'd probably go under. I, I think that both teams are gonna try to run the ball. 23:01 I don't know how successful it's gonna be, but I do think you're gonna see both of these teams at least trying to establish the run. And like I said, the Rams are a little bit banged up at wide receiver. 23:09 I'm not sure the passing game's gonna look that good. And while I do think Darnold avoids mistakes, I'm not sure he's gonna light it up. I'm with you on all. Bet the Seahawks, lean under. What could go wrong, Zach? 23:20 What could go wrong? [laughs] Appreciate it as always, man. Thank you so much. Thanks, guys. Zach Cohen at Betting on X, courtesy of the Progressive Guest Line. All his stuff on the website at vsin.com. 23:31 Mike Sommit, Sommobombing next. [upbeat music] A numbers game on VSIN, the sports betting network. That's VSIN.com/cfp. So we got this, uh, tweet from, uh, Billy Charlebois, who said he, he drives six hours every day to make a... 24:30 Not every day, but he says he drives six hours to make a bet. So he clarifies this. He says, "I drive three hours south- Right... from the birthplace of Pauly Howard." Where's that? Mm. Minnesota somewhere? Minnesota? 24:42 Uh, he goes, "Yes, I do know him. Amazing guy. Then I head to Iowa, go over the border, reset my phone, park in a farmer's driveway- [laughs]... in a farmer's driveway, place bets, and head back. 24:54 Six hours of VSiN music and podcasts. Great." You're a great American. Once a week he does that. You know what, uh, Anthony, [laughs] 25:04 you know what, you know what, uh, we got a tweet from, uh- Well, I'm sure we got a lot of responses, uh, to that We got a tweet from, uh, Larry Fresh who says, "Yeah, if Billy wants a offshore account, hit me up, unless he loves that drive." 25:15 [laughs] Love- we're a clearing house for, uh, outs now. [laughs] Oh, boy. Thanks, Larry. That's a good offer to Billy, for sure. 25:22 And then James NTU80, uh, NTU89 says, "I've always been an advocate of winning your division gets you in the dance, but shouldn't guarantee you, should not guarantee you a home game in January. 25:32 Seeding should be based off of record," in his opinion as well. So there's a, there's some cry from folks, some outcry about they don't- I don't, uh- They don't love the format. We've got- I do... 25:43 we've got so many thing bro... th- so many things broken in sports. Why are we trying to fix the NFL playoffs? Do you like that the NFL reseeds, though? Do you like that? Yes. I do, too. Yeah. I do, too. 25:53 I like all of it. Um, what's next? And I like that other sports don't. I don't think that needs to be consistent across all sports. Yeah, I agree. Mike Somich joins us now, Somo Bombing. 26:04 Uh, you can find him @SomoBomb18 on the old Twitter machine. Uh, Ready Set Bet co-host along with our buddy Matt Brown. He joins us now courtesy of the Progressive guest line. Mike, what's happening? Not too much, boys. 26:16 Not too much. I agree with you. The NFL playoffs are perfect. Do not change them. I like having that- Thank you... four five game with the bad home team you get to bet against. Mm-hmm. 26:24 And I like the fact, especially now we only have one bye, that you reseed, because that number one seed should have the advantage outside just the bye. Yeah. 26:31 I agree, and I think Kelly said it right, which is we, w- of all the things we wanna complain about, we wanna change the NFL playoffs? Let's worry about- Seriously [laughs]... 26:37 college football and all that stuff, much more, much more broken. Uh, okay, before we get to the NFL, which is what I wanna talk to you about, you are always good for some hockey plays. You have some tonight? I do. 26:48 I've got two plays tonight. Uh, the first one we're gonna go with the New York Rangers, who have been dominant on the road and absolutely stunk at home. 26:55 No idea why, but if you look at the year-long stats, they've been a much better hockey team on the road. They've got St. Louis tonight, who is a team that's facing injuries, has not played well. 27:04 They played last night, beat Winnipeg 1-0 in a physical game. Let's go ahead, let's lay the goal in a half with the Rangers here. You can get plus 185 on the Rangers minus one and a half taking on the Blues tonight. 27:16 And then let's go to a player prop. Let's just lean in to what Pittsburgh is good at and Ottawa is bad at. The Pittsburgh Penguins, they are third in the NHL in power play percentage, clicking off at over 31%. 27:28 The Ottawa Senators, while they're playing very good five on five hockey, they are atrocious in the penalty kill, 70.5%, third worst in the NHL. 27:36 Sidney Crosby likes to get points on the power play when Pittsburgh gets points on the power play. He's plus 165 to record a power play point tonight, so we'll lean into the advantage here with the Penguins- Wow... 27:46 on the power play and take Sidney Crosby power play point one, plus 165. You know what's an underrated word? Atrocious. I like- I like when Mike breaks that out. It's an underrated word. That's a great word. Yeah. 27:55 By the way, before we get to the NFL, what, what's over your right shoulder there? What are all those squares? Uh, so this is the, uh, 1314 National Treasures Buried Treasure autograph hockey set. 28:06 It's the only one in the world. Oh. There are three out of five, including our boy Sidney Crosby right there, who's gonna get a power play point today. Uh-huh. 28:14 Uh, but there's just thr- there's o- there's three of them out of five, the rest are out of 10, uh, and it's the only complete set in the world. Where are you? Is this yours? Where are you exactly? I moved. 28:24 It's, you haven't had me out in a while. Oh. I got a new setup, a new house here. So we got, uh, with the move I got to actually set up a little bit more than just having- Love it... 28:31 those, those random shelves in the back. Are you, uh, still in, uh, Santa Barbara? Is that where you are? Still, still in Santa Barbara. Good for you, man. About a mile and a half from where I was. 28:39 Uh, but got a new house here, got a nice office instead of that back area I was in, so excited to kinda show it off a little bit here. I like it. Memorabilia on the wall. I love it. Uh, okay. 28:49 It's almost like you hit a superfecta at the Kentucky Derby or something. Almost. I mean, that couldn't- Something like that... that- Maybe that'll come up at some point soon... that couldn't have happened. 28:57 [laughs] By the way, did anybody beat you in the Somo Bomb challenge? Oh, yeah. Oh, a lot of people. I, uh, 184 people beat me, but 100 of them didn't have Expressbet accounts, Firstbet accounts. Oh, come on. 29:08 You had to have a Firstbet account to get the money, so you gotta make sure you sign up for a Firstbet account. Use promo code VSIN250. We're gonna have another Beat Somich contest early next year. Good. 29:17 Make sure you got your Firstbet account, then you can beat me. Get the 30, 40 bucks. I will say this: all five favorites won the five races, okay? That's not my style. That's not your thing. 29:27 When the favorites win every race, I'm in trouble. Yeah. So I, w- I'm looking forward to the day where we get a couple prices in these and only one or two people beat me and they get 5,000 or 2,500 bucks each. 29:37 That, I'm, I'm looking forward to that Beat Somich contest. I love the, I love the promos on that 'cause they were, like, super aggressive. Like I said, if you wanna face plant Somo, uh, yeah. 29:44 Oh, I took it up three notches. Yeah, I- If you wanna destroy Mike Somich, yeah. Yeah, Mike, I talked so much crap that week about bea- beating you, man. Yeah. 29:51 And then of course, like I, I forgot to sign up come Saturday. We, hey, you would've been proud of us. Last Friday we made a horse bet on the show. Uh, we b- we bet a horse called A Numbers Game. We did. Didn't work out. 30:01 Somewhere on Turf. Hey, there you go. They ne- he didn't- I, I understand why. It was a hunch play, right? Hunch play, that's right. All right, let's get to the game tonight. 30:08 Rams-Seahawks, how are you playing this, Mike? I love me what everyone else likes. I like the under in this spot. I, this, this to me is just a great setup for two defenses to be able to dominate. 30:19 We have a sample size of Sam Darnold against this Rams defense from the playoffs last year and the game earlier this season. It's not great. Nope. He did not play well in either of those games. 30:28 The Rams able to get consistent pressure on him in both spots, and I don't understand why people aren't talking about the Seahawks offensive line more It's not good. 30:36 Like, they, this is an offensive line that was banged up early in the season. They got healthy. 30:41 They're not missing anyone, but three of the pieces are clearly playing injured right now, and that was a problem against the Colts. 30:47 The, the Colts defensive line absolutely jumped off the tape, and it's not because they're overly talented, it's because the Seattle O-line is banged up. 30:55 I, I think that really helps this Rams defense be able to slow down Seattle. I think the Rams, or I think Seattle are able to keep the Rams in check, especially without Davante Adams. 31:03 But I'm gonna lean into the weather here. Let's go first half under 21 and a half. Uh, this is a spot where we're expecting the winds to be early, the rain to be early. By the second half, that could completely clear up. 31:14 We've already seen this under steam down because of weather, so let's play the specific half where that weather is going to happen. That's the first half tonight. So under 21 and a half in the first half. 31:24 And I do like the Rams money line as well. Give me the Rams plus 105 tonight. 31:28 It pains me to say it, I have Seahawks tickets from, from pre-season to win this division, but I, I really think the Seattle offensive line going to be a problem. 31:36 I don't think either team runs the ball well, but I think the Rams run it better tonight and win a low-scoring game. No Charles Cross for the Seahawks tonight. That has been confirmed. 31:45 Uh, Sam Darnold's blind side left tackle. Um, you have pushed my lean to the under, I think, over to a bet. I mean, into a bet, I should say. 31:54 Uh, okay, let's talk about, uh, let's, let's skip ahead to another showdown, uh, one of the other showdowns. 31:59 Let's go to the NFC South between the Panthers and the Bucs for the lead, at least temporarily anyway, in the NFC South. Two teams play themsel- uh, play each other twice in the next three weeks. What do you got here? 32:11 Bucs favored by three on the road. I, I have been waiting to see if I can get a Bucs two and a half. I'm afraid it never enters the market, so I'll take Bucs minus three, minus the 105 in this spot. 32:22 I feel like I'm buying low on a Tampa Bay team that is actually as healthy as we've seen all year long, specifically on the offensive side. We saw Mike Evans back. He looked awesome. 32:31 Te- uh, we saw McMillan back for them. He looked great as well. 32:35 You flip over to the Panthers side, uh, this is just an offense that's been struggling to get going, and it's been struggling for weeks ever since we had those Dowdle breakout games. 32:43 I think this is a, a Bucs team that is significantly better offensively, about the same defensively, and that gives me a big time lean toward the Bucs. 32:50 I also think you're gonna have a highly motivated Bucs team, not just because of the spot, because they got lit up last week by their head coach in the locker room and the press conference. 32:59 I think this is a, a Bucs runaway victory, so I played the Bucs minus three. All right, let's go to some other games. Uh, let's go real quick. Let's, how, how about the, uh, Bills and the Browns? 33:07 How are you playing this one? Total 41 and a half. Give me the over 41 and a half in this spot. I also like Shedeur Sanders passing yard props to the over. This is a bad Bills defense. 33:18 They're gonna be able to score against what's been a weaker Browns defense than I think people realize. I think the Browns also able to score on the Bills. 33:23 So let's go over 41 and a half, and I'll take Shedeur Sanders over his passing prop as well. All right, New Orleans Saints, four and a half point favorites hosting the Jets. 33:32 A, uh, game that you are not required to watch. What do you got here, though? [laughs] Oh, I will be, I will be locked in- [laughs]... 'cause I am all in on the Shuck train here. 33:40 I have him for Offensive Rookie of the Year bet him- Ooh... after the win last, or two weeks ago. I, this is, I think they're gonna win out. I think the Saints win the last three games. He's still 25 to 1. 33:50 Like him as Offensive Rookie of the Year, especially since you got a couple guys ahead of him that are gonna fall off. I think the Saints win by margin. This Jets team is done. 33:57 Saints are the ninth best defense in the NFL since week 10. They can move the football on the offensive side. Give me Saints by margin and Tyler Shuck to win the, uh, the Offensive Rookie of the Year. 34:05 Last one real quick. Falcons, Cardinals, total 48. Way too low on the total. Take the over. Cardinals can move the ball against anyone, and their defense stinks out loud. Mike, always a pleasure, man. Sure. 34:16 Thank you so much for joining us. Appreciate it. Good luck this weekend, boys. Mike Somich, everybody, @somobomb18. We lost that SomoBomb tracker, though- Yep... where he left the D. It's too bad. We'll come back. 34:28 We'll recap all the bets. Uh, Short Money podcast that Patrick Maher and Mike Somich have done all NFL season has been great. 36:00 I think it goes very well hand-in-hand with what we do with guessing lines on Monday. So i- make sure to check out all the VSiN podcasts. But they do that on Sunday night, often with the openers, and do a bit of a recap. 36:12 I think it works really well then with what we do on Mondays, um, kind of hand-in-hand. Mike and Patrick have done great job with that all year. Two awesome dudes. Mm-hmm. Yeah. And great dudes. Yep. 36:21 And Zach Cohen does a good one, too. It's called Hardwood Handicappers, and every Tuesday, a big time guest named Kelly Billings shows up. 36:27 Yeah, I was gonna say, I bet you don't shout coward at Somich when he's on if he makes a pick you don't like. Just at Zach. Oh, I, I would. 36:34 M- M- Mike and I are close enough for me to me- yell that Uh, Zipper Merge Professional at No Postal Pride says, "Kelly reminds me of Wags on Billions." Did you two ever watch that show? I never- [laughs] 36:48 I don't know if I should be insulted by that or take it as a compliment. I've watched and I know exactly what you're talking about. No idea what he's talking about. You, you like that or no? Do you like that comparison? 36:56 It's a, it's an interesting comp. How about that, Gil? Okay. How about that? All right. Well, what- He's a fun guy... what is- He's a fun guy. He does some bad things. What would you say he means by that? 37:04 What are the comps? Um, I mean, he's... Man, it's been a while since I've watched the show, but it's, you know, Billions, Billions. You watch Succession, right? You never watched Billions? I watch Succession. Okay. Good. 37:13 And I watched Succession after the fact, so I binged it and I hated it. Okay. I... Don't worry, we can rage on it. We can rage on it- Yeah, yeah... and I don't have like, you know, Brian Ortega's not gonna yell at me. 37:21 Yeah. So, like, it's, it's, both shows I think are f- both are, are good. Billions was awesome I thought the first couple seasons. Better than anything Succession ever did in my opinion. 37:32 Billions, those first couple seasons were. Then it was really sad, like, the main c- the main actor's, like, wife got sick. They took a break. They kinda went like- Oh, wow. Yeah, it's a long story. 37:42 Um, but Wags was always, like, the guy who was, you know, it's a, it's a financial co- uh, financial company, right? He was always the guy that was kinda getting in trouble. 37:50 He was always in the, living life in the gray area, let's put it that way. [laughs] Both professionally and personally. Uh, we had tweets be the book also. 37:58 Uh, Rhodes Nose, "Does 75 to one for no touchdown and I get you to the window for a pizza bet seem short, but with weather and short week, what do you think?" Thanks, guys. Uh, it doesn't get me to the window. Me. Yeah. 38:11 I, I think these offenses are still too efficient. Y- you know, interesting note Mike brought up about the offensive line. I think there's the, the... I'll, I'll put it another way. 38:21 That offensive line sunk the entire Seahawks season a year ago. 38:25 So the eva- the amazing improvement that it's made, and then we can seize on this now, I get the injuries that are there, but man, that offensive line sucked last year. 38:35 I'm already anticipating the, uh, if they don't get the number one seat, I'm anticipating the Seahawks crash out in the, uh, playoffs. It's just gonna be so deflating for that fan base. I know. Uh, this- Ch- chance. 38:47 I'm riding with you, man. I got, I got an NFC ticket. Let's go. I hope it doesn't happen. Brian Schaefer, "Gil, uh, we all do what we need to do, uh, to place bets." Oh, tell me about it, Brian. You have no idea. 38:58 "In New Jersey, we can't bet on New Jersey colleges. So stupid. 39:01 The year Princeton went on a run in the NCAA basketball tournament, I drove to, uh, Pennsylvania, parked it in a Wawa, and hammered Creighton over Princeton in the Sweet 16." Oh, we all love the Wawa parking lots. 39:13 Dude, I'm like, I've got... Uh, we appreciate the A&G family trying to help each other out. Yeah. You guys can stop DM-ing me, though, about [laughs] about hel- about helping out Brian. 39:21 [laughs] Uh, Billy Charlebois clarifying the clarification. Or Billy. Uh, Billy. [laughs] I said Brian. I'll say Billy. This is a, this is a second clarification from Billy. 39:29 He goes, "I should clarify about my long drives. I enjoy the drives and I had a horrible offshore account experience, and I will never touch those again." Good. Ah, that makes sense. Good. 39:39 I think we've all had at least one of those. I love listening daily. I really appreciate all the info y'all provided. Veesen, thank you, Gil, and Kelly, and all the others. Billy, thank you. It's very kind of you. 39:47 We're, we're... Listen, we all get it. We're just, uh- Yep... we're impressed by the, uh, the stick-to-it-iveness of the weekly six-hour drive. That's awesome. We appreciate that you have us on with us. 40:01 Um, with you, rather. Here are the bets. I added s- a few bets for tonight's game. So I've got the Chargers at the Cowboys on Sunday. I got the Panthers plus the points versus the Bucs. 40:11 Those I made during Guessing Lines. But I'm, I'm into tonight's game. I got the Seahawks minus one and a half. Look at you. And I got both the first half and game unders I fired. 40:19 Um, I just, I mean, I could be dead wrong about all this, but I just have a feeling it's going to be similar in th- in that fashion to the first game. Again, weather thrown in perhaps. We don't really know, right? 40:31 It could be cleared by game time. They're not expecting it to be horrible. As, as, as Mike Somich said, definitely by the second half they're expecting it to be gone. 40:39 But I, I, again, the first game of the year, 21 to 19 Rams. Keep in mind, the Rams scored two s- short field touchdowns set up at the S- at the Seahawks 25, at the Seahawks three-yard line. Sam Darnold threw four picks. 40:54 Rams only won it because they got a punt to the one-yard line, and the Seahawks could only muster a 61-yard field goal attempt at the end, which was, uh, not good at all. So anyway, I just feel like it's an under. 41:06 I feel like it's the Seahawks. We shall see. Also got the, uh, Hoosiers to win the college football playoff, which again begins tomorrow night. Obviously Hoosiers have a bye, so they're not in action this weekend. 41:15 But we do have four games, one tomorrow night, and then three on Saturday. It's finally here. And then my Cowboys bets are losers. Not technically yet, but they will be. 41:25 Cowboys to win the NFC East and then two stage of eliminations on the Cowboys, who had the audacity to lose to the Vikings in a game they had to have the other day. You, sir. Yes, NBA tonight. 41:36 Pacers catching five, Pelicans catching 10, and Nuggets team total over 121 and a half. We went over those about an hour ago. If you're listening on podcast, just hit that rewind button. 41:48 Or if you want to and you're listening live, go check out our podcast, which i- is out there for the show every single day. Should bring that up more often. Yes. Uh, okay, NFL. 41:57 F- Felika, Felika texted yesterday, goes, "I don't, I don't hear Will on the podcast." I was like, "What do you mean you don't hear Will on the podcast?" He did, he goes, "He didn't make the best of." 42:06 Talking about Will Hill's appearance yesterday. I go, "What do you mean he didn't make the best of?" He goes, "I onl- I'm only hearing Wishnev and Futac and Warren Sharp." I go, "Oh, you're on hour three. 42:15 You have to go to... They're all separated by hour." Yeah, separate hours. Yeah. I mean- Also we have our own A Numbers Game channel, too. Yeah. 42:20 I know a lot of people go to the Best Bets channel, which has a whole network. By the way, speaking of podcasts, Beating the Book podcast today, Mega Pod, week 16. Jeff Parlay is the guest in studio. 42:31 Let's go, Parls in charge. The Gr- the Grover Cleveland of producers. Producers five and eight. It's awesome, awesome seeing him the other night. Uh, it's been a while. Um, okay. Rams-Seahawks, I'm in on the under. 42:40 Got 46 and a half on Open. I am likely gonna join you and Mike on that first half under. I think that is a good call by him. I'll, I'll monitor it here though the next few hours, see what this weather is looking like. 42:51 Uh, okay, NFL rest of the week, laying six and a half with the Lions, Bears, and Patriots in teaser. 42:58 Uh, s- up to seven and a half with the Bears, up to eight and a half with the Pats, and then the Pats money line as well. You know what Neil Vanscoy tells me on, uh... 43:06 Neil Vanscoy on Twitter tells me, "Speaking of billions, I believe the intro for your show, the numbers tell the story. They always do." Yeah, it's from that. Is a clip taken from Axe and Billions. It is. It's true. 43:15 Thank you, Neil. Appreciate that. Uh, Zach Cohen, he's got a couple football plays. He's got the Seahawks tonight at even money on the, uh, in the Thursday Night Football game. Vikings minus two and a half at the Giants. 43:26 And then the NBA tonight, he's on the Nets plus the points versus the Heat. He's with Kelly on the Pels, Pelicans plus 10 versus the Rockets, and he's on the Mavs plus six versus the Pistons tonight in the association. 43:39 Mike Somich, Somo Bombing, he's got the Rams Seahawks first half under 21 and a half tonight. He's got the Rams on the money line of the Seahawks. He and Zach are oppo there. 43:49 He's on the Bill br- uh, Bills Browns over 41 and a half on Sunday. Bucs minus the three at the Panthers in the NFC South showdown. Saints minus four and a half versus the Jets. 44:00 He's also got, uh, Shuck Offensive Rookie of the Year ticket. Falcons Cardinals over 48. Man, for as many great games as there are this [laughs] weekend, I guess it, I guess it follows that there are some real stinkers. 44:10 Yeah, that time of year. Yeah. Second guy, though, I don't know, I, I don't know if Drew said it on this, our show.
