Fez told us. Played poker the last couple days. Yeah. Um, which is rare. I haven't done, I haven't played a, a regular poker tournament in 19 years, I think it was. And, um, [smacks lips]

one of our, one of our sponsors on my podcast put John Orlando and I in a, a tournament, and it was just a $1,000 tournament. And I lasted, though. You know, I lasted the entire day, first day, 13 and a half hours.

Wow, is that tough to do. 13 and a half hours. You start at 10:00 in the morning, end 11:30. Yeah, 11:35 I think it was, but, you know- You know what's so, uh, we're sports betters- Yeah...

as if we're doing something, you know, noble. Right. Which we're not. No.

But I have the nerve to walk by poker rooms in casinos, and I'd be lying to you if I told you that, if I didn't tell you that a little voice in my head looks at them and goes, "Ah, these poor souls." Oh, man.

I have that judgment. It's, you know, I, I, I don't wanna be so judgmental because I'm, I'm tough- Yeah... on, on a lot of different things.

And the poker community, and this is something, now I played the next day, another four hours, and, um, the poker community, the, the recognition I got from different things, including our show- Yeah...

I had some guys from the middle of America say, "Oh man, you and Gil, I love that. Every week I, I, we absolutely love that. I love that it's on YouTube," which I always fought you guys to put, not you. Yeah. You know?

And then he's like, "I watch it every week." So at least four people come up to me about our show here on Thursday, which was really nice. That's a- Absolutely... little sample of, of everyone else. Yeah.

You get, you must get that all the time. You're on five days a week. I mean, you must get it all the time. Kelly and I typically when we walk out here, there's somebody waiting for us. Yeah. Yeah, they'll say hello.

No, I mean, outside of here even. Yeah. Oh, yeah. When you're, when you're, you know? In, well, you know what? I'll, let me just say this. My, my line is that we're sportsbook famous, right?

By the time we get to the buffet, usually not. Hmm. Usually not, but every once in a while, you know, in a random location on earth it will happen. It's funny, usually when I hit the buffet, people get very upset.

[laughs] Def- So it's a different, different- Yeah... atmosphere. No, what I mean about walking by the poker room, though, is- Yeah... I- It's a tough life... if, what I say, I say it's a tough life. Yeah. Right.

I, I sort of say it with a half respect, half I can't do that. I wanna ask you- It was 13 hours you were there... 13 and a half, and then four, and, uh, I'm still beat up from it.

You know, you're playing one night, you're going to bed for six hours, you're getting back up and playing again. That's really tough. Yeah. You know?

And that's why it's, I don't know how anyone over 50 can play a main event. I mean, I know they do, but- Was this a 50 and over tournament? It might've been 50 and over, 50. 50 and over. Barely qualified.

Uh, I know why I don't play poker tournaments, though, not just 'cause of that. Um, I'm not aggressive enough, and you know why? Because of this business, sports betting. Because I'm such a disciplined sports bettor,

and bankroll management's part of my life every day, never overbet, never getting upset, never overbetting.

Lots of people in the poker business, in the poker industry, they're, they're, they get upset too when they lose sometimes, but not this older crowd. But, um, you see fights every day in poker rooms.

I mean, literally arguments and sometimes actual fights. I mean- Fistfights. Yeah, sure. I mean- Oh, man... you know, you see one, they're on Twitter, they're on, you know, and it's just not, it's not cool.

But- But what are we, what are we fighting about? What's the primary reason poker players fight each other?

Because when we're little kids, like I always said on this show before, we're playing checkers with our dad, we're m- Monopoly, The Game of Life, and we're used to winning.

We don't like to be, we're sor- we're sore losers in the end. It's an em- it's embarrassing to lose, some portion of people think, you know? Um, you know, it, it is what it is.

I'm just saying, the reason why I'm not aggressive enough, so I, I, like, just like I did, I s- waited out the whole time and, uh, you know, just, just, I wa- I wanted to get in the money 'cause I wanted to beat John, 'cause he's supposedly this poker pro that he thinks he is.

So, um- [laughs] Yeah, yeah, that's, that's- Taking a shot at his podcast the other day. Yeah, no, I, I take shots of him on air. I, I, matter of fact, I, I gave him a line from Goodfellas yesterday.

I said, "You know, John," i- i- we put 500 bucks each in. He won 16,000. We, we actually wound up with $14,000 pr- profit on the tournament that he first entered.

It was a real good valued tournament where they had bounties, which I understood. And I said, "You know, Th- John, I'm gonna, I, I'll go partners with you. Go ahead." He's been asking me for years.

I never give him a dollar for that. So I give him 500 bucks. He cashes out, and he decides not to pay me anything. He's like, "Oh, no, we gotta invest this.

We gotta re- re- reinvest it," like the Honeymooners scene with Ed Norton and Ralph Kramden. No. No, John, we gotta get something back. He's like, "No, we gotta turn this into the main event."

Like, the poker player, the, the mindset of a poker player after they win a, win, win some money. [laughs] So now he plays a couple more tournaments. I said, "John, go ahead. You wanna play it, go ahead.

Seven grand, whatever it is, just, go ahead, fire it up. Maybe you'll get lucky. You know, I, I, I, I've lost more money on stupid thing, dumber things in my life." So sure enough, he says, "You know what we'll do?

If we cash anything, we'll split that money and we'll get that..." So sure enough, he loses 1,000 in a tournament, loses 500 in a tournament, then he wins 2,400. I'm supposed to get $1,200.

Next episode, go on live, I said, "You want me to move some of these things out or you can put the money on the counter here?" I'm d- live on air with him. [laughs] He's like, "I, I, I didn't bring it."

I was like, "What?" He's stuttering. "I, I..." Like I said, he's like Spider on Goodfellas. But yesterday, I said, "You know what? I, I, I've decided what you are. You're a sick human. I've decided what you are.

You're like Jimmy on Goodfellas, the De Niro character." Mm-hmm. I said, "You know, in the end, when they robbed the Little Tony's of money, he decided to kill all his partners instead of giving them money."

I said, "That's what, that's what you do. You don't wanna give me no money. You wanna just, you wanna kill everybody. You hope I'm, you hope I'm dropping dead." He's dying laughing. He wants to put everything back.

He's dying to get in the main event. It, it's just a sick mentality of, of poker player gamblers. What, what percentage of you is joking? What percentage of you is mad at him? 50/50. 50/50.

Probably about 75% joking, but, "John, you gotta, let's split up some money. You just said a new deal. You redid the deal. You said 2,400. Give me the $1,200." He's like- [laughs]... "Listen, if you need the money."

[laughs] I was like, "No, no, no, not, not that need the money." He's like, "Let's try to get in the main event." I said, "Go ahead, John. Go ahead." [laughs] I'm soft like butter. I mean, I, I give, I give in, but...

And I'm not making fun of John. Anything I wouldn't say to his face. Right. It's just a poker player mentality. "No, no, no, let's take this money and reinvest it."

But the, it's the p- it's the poker player mentality, but it's also the strain of I'm not being 100% forthcoming with you while all this is happening. You know, he knows that I got a few bucks, so he's like- Yeah...

"Ah, you don't need this." Yeah. You know? I, I, I hope in the end it's not a Jamie Gold situation. He wins, like, millions and says, "I wasn't partners with him." Right. [laughs] You know? But, um, yeah.

Well, it's, it, I mean, again, our, my only exposure to, to the, uh, the, the culture is when you go to a sportsbook, you're in town. You don't have to go that many times when there's a poker tournament around. Right.

Let's say it's at, by the way, at the Aria, it's happening right now, right? Mm-hmm.

Um, you don't have to go to the sportsbook that many times while a poker tournament is happening adjacent to it, where s- one of the ticket writers, one of the sportsbook ticket writers, knowing you as a sports bettor, will look over at you and be like, "Oh my God, these guys are the worst, the worst"- Oh...

in terms of their- Yeah... how they, how they're being treated or, or they don't, or not even being how they're treated. I've heard this, so I know this.

That they don't, that they don't really understand the language of sports betting, and so they will ha- no problem holding up a line- Okay... let's say for 10 minutes- Oh, I got you...

with the most basic questions and it, it drives some of these guys crazy. I thought you were going somewhere else with this, the tipping. A lot of Europeans- Oh, no, I wasn't gonna go there... tip.

No, so you're saying just not knowing the terminology of sports betting and coming up and saying, "Give me $50 on the Cubs." Let's just say it this way, the sportsbook writers are not used to that. Right.

They're not used to that character. Right. Yeah. Right, right, right, right. No, I, I, uh, uh, being around, but it was an older crowd now. It was a very nice crowd, and like I said, it was a very respectful crowd.

Everyone stood up when, at the end. They were asking how old people were, and then you had people, guys stan- standing up that were over 70, over 80, over 90 years old. Wow.

90-year-old guy there, Vince Burgio, who's, used to be a poker pro. Oh, right. And he's still in, by the way. He's still in. And there, there- Yeah... there's 200 people left out of eight, almost 8,000.

90 years old, he's still in there. It was really cool to get him to, uh, you know, uh, say, "Shuffle up and deal." But, um, the prices of food, though, you know, I have to complain about something. Mm-hmm.

Not, not only the, the poker rake, which, um, they, they take out, and John's like, John, John, when he won the 16,290, he gave him, like, 90 bucks. You know, how much do you wanna tip the de- the dealers?

My thing is, it advertises they take 3.6% out of the prize pool, so if you enter a $1,000 tournament, $36 from everyone's entry goes to the dealers. It goes to the floor staff. Mm-hmm.

That means you don't have to tip no more. They, they still ask you at the cage. Of course they do. They still ask you at the cage, "Uh, how much do you wanna tip the dealers?" Yeah, of course.

And John, like every other, like a lot of poker players, don't even know. "Oh, how much do you want?" Like, like, you know. People know where I stand on that. I, I, me too, and I'm a tipper. We, we tip our, you know.

And, and by the way, a lot of people have winning seasons, that sort of thing. You can have a winning season on, on, on any- Yeah, so I-... NFL sides. Yes. On NBA sides. Right, I just wanna point that out.

You know, I ha- I have a challenge on my Fox Sports Radio show with Jeff Schwartz and Brian No, and it's, you know, five games against the spread right at game time, when everyone else is lined up in every sports book in the world, lined up, last minute, big portion of them get shut out.
