I don't know if I'm doing the first segment or wait for crack to tell it, about h- the, the absolute ridiculousness of trying to make an NBA draft bet here in the state of Nevada.

It is equal parts comical, like comical to the point where, I mean, it's a joke- Mm... to infuriating. What, what was your old saying is that I can't wait for Nevada to get legalized sports betting? That's correct, yes.

And I'm a little, a little disappointed in your choices. The AFC West with the Kansas City Chiefs, that one I can give away, 'cause most people would figure that's who they, who would have.

that of the 21 instead of, uh, uh, 'cause I, uh, the ones that I just mentioned, 20 of the 21 picked the same team in both the NFC West and the AFC West. In these two divisions, it was a 10-10-1 split.

Yeah, I think it's a lot to pay for a guy like Mikal Bridges. He's very good, but he's not, like, star level, dominant player, so it is quite the haul for him.

At the same time, if they get OG Anunoby back and they re-sign Isaiah Hartenstein, then this team's going to be arguably the second-best team in the Eastern Conference.

So, you know, if you give yourself a puncher's chance in a series with the Boston Celtics, you can't really ask for much more than that. So I think it's really dependent on if they get OG and Isaiah Hartenstein back.

But if you're bringing both of those guys back, I, I really like what this team can do in the Eastern Conference.

And at the very least, I think I'd be going into that, uh, this season with them as the second-best team in the, uh, East. And there, by the way, are the details.

So I, I find myself getting increasingly stubborn here. So I am going to stand pat, and I'm going to say Donovan Clingan is going to be the first overall pick. Wow.

Uh, in ta- in talking with people a- and looking at everything, Gil, it was a great point that was brought up by Matt Moore over at the Action Network, and I was talking with him, and he, we had him on the show yesterday, which is we have all this smoke around the Hawks and Clingan, and the fact that Quin Snyder wants him.

He's the archetype of a player in Rudy Gobert that he has played with over there in Atlanta. The coaching staff desires Donovan Clingan. And yet every time it's like, "Well, but do you wanna take him first overall?"

And then all of a sudden when the information comes out that Re- Zachary Risacher is the, the apple of the eye of the San Antonio Spurs, guess who all of a sudden wants Zachary Risacher as the first overall pick?

[laughs] It's the Atlanta Hawks. So I'm gonna stand pat, and I'm gonna say, you know what? He makes positional sense. It is a team that fancies himself as a playoff option.

They would rather go in the direction of a guy who's got a really high floor. I think Donovan Clingan's going to be the first overall pick.

John, do you think that the, the Hawks obviously won the lottery with really long odds.

Do you think they were, like, so surprised they won that it sent them into a spiral like, "What, we have no idea what we're gonna do," and, like, to this moment they might not still know what they wanna do?

Uh, they might not.

It sounds like, too, like, ownership is one of those where they might come in and be like, "No, no, no, we want player X," so that's gonna be something that, uh, that maybe changes things at the last second.

And maybe it's neither Risacher or Clingan then because of the, which, uh, what happens there. But it does get the sense that, or it's, like, one of those where it's like, "Sweet, we got the first overall pick.

Oh, but nobody really wants to trade up for that first overall pick," [laughs] like, because this draft is viewed as weaker and with a lot of developmental pieces, not really worth doing it, and so they're stuck in a, between a rock and a hard place.

Okay, so you're standing firm on Clingan. You made a couple bets, 12 to one and 11 to one for Clingan to go, uh, at number one in this draft. So if Risacher does not, where does he go, and what did you bet?

So I, I do have a ticket on Risacher to go fourth overall to the San Antonio Spurs. So a- um, my thinking here, Gil, is so if Clingan goes number one, we know at this point that Alex Sarr is going to go number two.

Uh, he has tanked his position so that he can go number two. He wants to go to Washington, so that's gonna be the case. The wildcard is number three, because we don't know what Houston's going to do there.

We don't know if they're going to trade that pick, if they're gonna make it. If Houston makes it, it sounds like it's going to be Reed Shepherd by all accounts.

He is about a $2 favorite to go third overall, and that would leave the San Antonio Spurs sitting at four when their guy falls to them in Zachary Risacher.

So I did add Risacher at about 15 to 1 to go fourth overall there. Uh, we've shifted a little bit.

I think he's about six to one now to go with the fourth overall pick, but it does sound like the San Antonio Spurs would like that, and I think if Clingan goes one, the domino effect is such that Risacher could be available there at four.

I usually ask this before NFL drafts. I say, "Okay, what do you think you know for sure?" is my standard go-to question. Yeah. Isn't A- Alex Sarr to number two is the only thing we know for sure probably here?

Yeah, I, I think that's a really safe bet. It... And I, I feel like... So that, and I feel like we know that the Rockets will trade, or excuse me, will take Shepherd if they make the pick.

[laughs] And that's like, that's the big if, right?

So we don't know if they're gonna be there, but all signs point to, okay, if we're stuck here, we'll take the Kentucky guard who can shoot and can sit behind Rui Hachimura for a little bit.

But that's, you know, you have to get one part there f- uh, before you can get to that other part, which is they have to make the pick, and we don't know if that's gonna happen.

But for sure Sarr, that seems to be, uh, not a lock, but as close as you can get to certain when it comes to an event like this. You also bet the number five pick. Yeah, so I bet the five pick.

I, I've got Mantas Buzelis going there. Again, that was about plus 250, three to one. Uh, he is now sitting at the odds-on status. I think he's sitting around, like, minus 150 for that overall selection.

Uh, there is like a, uh, I think it's, like, a brother-son connection with front office and agent for Buzelis, so there's something there that ties them together.

Uh, there's been a desire from Detroit to draft him even before they got Trey Len in there, the new president of basketball operations.

Uh, he also, Buzelis, fits the archetype o- of the player that Langdon did want when he was over in New Orleans. So there's a lot of connections. There's a lot of information there. So now he's up to minus 140.

There is info there, but I, I think that there's something else that's floating out there, and I wanna give this guy credit, 'cause I do generally have.

Uh, Gil, James Edwards, who covers the Pistons, does a really good job with them, and last year was miles ahead of everybody with Asar Thompson to go number five.

And one of the things that he reported the other day was that the real secret desire of Detroit is to actually get out of this selection, and maybe their real desire is a guy like to John Salon, the other Frenchman, uh, who's floating around, like, 10th overall, 10th overall in terms of his draft position.

That's something to look out for, because if Clingan is still available there, that would be a spot for a team like Oklahoma City or Memphis to move up, much more palatable than going up to number three and drafting, uh, Donovan Clingan in that spot.

So that's a really big spot to watch. Three and five, I think, are the really big spots to watch for potential trades that involve Clingan and teams moving up.

Is that James Edwards who used to play for the Pistons, or a different James Edwards who covers the Pistons? Uh, I believe it's James Edwards who covers the Pistons. I see, okay.

Um, okay, last two things, 'cause we have, uh, 60 seconds here. Zach Edey a top tenner in the end, or no? I'm gonna say no.

You know, it's weird, because there's this thing out there that Portland might want him at seven. Uh, but Portland's got Robert Williams and Deandre Ayton, and I just don't know if that makes sense.

Like, if you want to draft him later, 'cause they do have two first-round picks, that makes sense. But drafting him at seventh, I don't really buy it.

And then there's not many teams, I think, in there that are in such desperate need of a center that they would burn a top 10 pick on a guy like Zach Edey.

It should-- It's worth noting that Utah, uh, allegedly is in the market for a center, because it sounds like maybe Walker Kessler could be traded here in the off-season. But again, I don't think you're using 10.

I think you're using another one of your late first-round picks there. So I would say Zach Edey, no, on a top 10 pick. All right. You know where I'm going last. Bronny, what's the latest? What do you think?

I mean, it's hard not to just say he goes 55th, right? It, it... I don't think the Suns are gonna spend a first-round selection on him. The-- He hasn't worked out for any other team.

Maybe somewhere early in the second a team wants to take a flyer on him. There's things to like. But I think more often than not, like, DraftKings has at 49 and a half, other plus spots have f- 54 and a half.

I even sprinkled, sprinkled a little Re- Reed Shepard. I was listening to Ryan Russillo and Bill Simmons a couple weeks ago, and, and look, Russillo's pretty tied into the league.

He's like, "Shepard has the one skill with the shooting that, hey, if you're just kind of in between on these players and you don't know who to pick, you at least have a dead eye shooter and maybe you take him.

So if you're going into tonight with no bets and you want to just throw a few long shots, I think, uh, this is a good draft where may- maybe you take some moonshots just because there's so much uncertainty.

When it comes to the Open Championship, there's a couple long shots I, I would probably consider, or maybe I even, like a long shot I'm talking like Tyrrell Hatton at 40 to 1, for example. But

He's too good, and what I was trying to say before is with the mallet putter, um, this, this putting has really come around now, and now we're, we're at a place where we know the ball striking is gonna be good, and there's a really good chance the putting's gonna be good.

Uh, now granted, you got the LIV people back when it comes to these majors, so it does factor in a little bit extra versus these signature events that don't have the LIV guys back. But I'm not betting Scottie.

Uh, Tom Kim, who Scottie beat in a playoff this past week at the Travelers, he is the short shot at 12 to 1. Cam Young, 16 to 1. Everybody else, 20 to 1 or longer. Who'd you bet outright here, Sia?

So I think this tournament lends itself a little bit to some long shots maybe winning, and the reason I say that is because it's not your classic like ball strikers course, where a guy like Tom Kim can really separate himself.

Now, Tom Kim is the favorite for good reason, but there's no way at a tournament like this, which tends to be ki- can be kind of like a putting fest and who gets hot for two to three to four rounds.

There's no way I'm betting a short shot here, unless I'm hyper, hyper confident, which I'm not in a guy like Tom Kim or Cam Young or Min Woo Lee or even Akshay Bhatia. I go down the board a little bit.

I, I see Taylor Pendrith here at 25 to 1. That's where he is in most markets, but he was 35 to 1 when this opened. That's when I got him. He's been really hot, not just with the putter, but at this course.

Over the last two years, he's been 14th, he's been second, and he's really good off the tee, and he's been really hot with the putter.

That's kind of what I'm looking for here, along with good wedge play, which actually feeds into Robert McIntyre at 40 to 1. That's my, like I basically have two outrights here, and it's those two.

G- both guys are good off the tee. Both can get hot with the putter. Robert McIntyre has some issues with the approach play, but his wedge game, which is gonna be important here, is actually pretty decent.

So 40 to 1, 35 to 1, that's kind of the wheelhouse for this particular tournament.

When you don't have Scottie, when you don't have Xander, when you don't have Cantlay and guys like that, you can afford to go down the board a little bit.

Taylor Pendrith, then you bet other ways as well, including a top 30. That's right. I like Taylor Pendrith in the top 30 market, along with Aaron Rai and Thorbjorn Olesen. Olesen's kind of an outlier in this group.

He's not necessarily great off the tee. Approach play and putting, he's been really good there, and he's just very under the radar. You look at his finishing positions, he's been pretty good.

As far as Aaron Rai, he's not great with the putter, but he's excellent everywhere else. So I don't like Aaron Rai as an outright because I don't think he can close with basically a neutral to negative putter.

But top 30 is very comfortable for me at minus 115. By the way, I have that Olesen number plus 190. Uh, but as far as Pendrith is concerned, he'd have to have a bad tournament. He's been really hot.

He's won already on tour this year. He'd have to have a bad tournament to finish outside of the T30. So I have him outright, but if he doesn't win the outright, I don't mind paying the minus 125 for T30.

Yeah, and, uh, first round leader, which you're known for with your golf bets, uh, some familiar names that you've already mentioned. Pendrith, McIntyre, Olesen among the handful that you've done for first round leader.

That's right. Uh, again, a lot of these guys are in the morning tee time, but I don't know that the morning's gonna have like the typical advantage that they normally do with the wind and the weather.

So a, a couple of these are in the afternoon. Uh, but either way, Pendrith and Robert McIntyre, these guys can pop for a round. We actually saw it last week with Taylor Pendrith, who surprised.

He was one of my first round leaders. I was on this show, I talked about it. He was five under, like pretty early in his round. Eventually guys like Tom Kim passed him. Uh, but he was contending.
