So it, it's some great de- I fly on Spirit from, big front seat, to Newark, New Jersey, or, um, Philadelphia, or they don't have Philadelphia no more, but certain planes, I like to get a, the big front seat.

So but they're only night flights, so they leave at, like, 10 at night. Yeah.

By the time you get there, literally it's 6:00, 7:00 in the morning, but you don't sleep on the plane, so that means you don't sleep the whole night. Or earlier sometimes. I can't sleep on the plane.

Sometimes it arrives, like, 5:00-something. Yeah. 5:00 in the morning. Yeah. And, uh, I, I gotta be blunt. Your sleep and your health and your routine means more.

I'm gonna s- never ever, I'm done doing, unless I have to, I'm done doing those overnight flights. I wanna do a flight...

I know, like, my wife says, "Oh, you ruin the whole day, though, if you leave at 11:00 or 12:00 in the afternoon." Fine. I, I'll sacrifice that day- Mm-hmm... to feel good for the entire trip.

You know, I've no jet lag, no not sleeping. That, that eight hours of sleep you didn't get, seven hour... I, I sleep about seven hours a night. That seven hours of sleep I didn't get, so important. I'm done doing that.

And you wanna know something? That's, it's all east to west coast because it's those low-cost carriers. And I won't go on, like, a Legion or one of those planes where the, the, you know, the little tiny seats.

I won't do that. Um- But didn't you say you were just uncomfortable? On Spirit. Didn't you say- Yeah, Spirit, big front seat in the front. Oh, you don't mind Spirit.

Which, which by the way, they, they, they shake you down for a ridiculous amount of money. [laughs] It used to be- No, they do. Yeah... it used to be, like, 200 bu- You know what's funny?

When they show you $89 fare, you add the bag, add the seat, add the thing, it's $500. I, I love the add the seat. No, I, uh, he goes, "Would you like to buy a seat?" I was like, "No, I prefer to stand." Right. Right.

[laughs] No, it's like- So it's like 500 bucks each way, but, uh, no more night flights. It's gonna be morning flights. As, as long as I... There's some places you don't have options.

Like, if I fly into Philly, you only have, like, American and, um, my, I believe Alaska, believe it or not. Yeah. Alaska Air.

They, they, they go nonstop with this, so you have to go on their flights, you know, their flight schedules. It's- But that first day- Yeah... I'm telling you, it, it, it put me back.

It's hard to recover from not sleeping at all. Age is- Zero sleep... age is an amazing thing like that. And it's the age. It's the- Candle's on the cake... I used to do those red-eyes like nobody's business.

It was no problem for me. Yeah. So I get a little sleep, whatever. Yeah. You're young, you don't care. Um, it, but, but as you get older, the things you, you are willing to do that you cut out.

I used to, when I would fly to the East Coast in order to cut costs, right? I used to not fly direct. I would have a stopover somewhere. There you go. I don't do that anymore. Yeah. I, I don't want no stops.

No, no stops anymore- Yes... 'cause I've gotten burned on that a couple times too. 'Cause you missed a connection or your, your, your- Or if there's a delay and you're stuck in- A delay...

midway in Chicago for 20 hours or something. Got something with the weather or something. And that's, Midway is one of the airlines. Yeah. Southwest has, has, has connections through Midway. Yeah.

Um, you're, you're 100% right, but as you get older, though, Gil, uh, the, like, do you... You fly now. Do you... Well, you really don't fly to the East Coast no more. You don't go to Maryland no more- Uh, not-...

so you go Washington... not, not so much with my parents no longer. Yeah. Right. Yeah. So but, like, when my parents were ali- I was there a lot. Yeah, me too.

I went every, thank God, 50 years in a row I've made every Christmas and Thanksgiving for my parents.

So I, that, that means twice a year I would just fly that flight just to go back there for that week, uh, for, like, 15 years straight.

And of course, why is it we're so sick that we have to get closing line value on everything- [laughs]... including airline flights? Including airline flights. [laughs] No, no, I'm real sick. Yeah.

I'll go through different... Yeah. I'll go to, like, carrentals.com, rentalcars.com. Yeah. I'll go directly to the site to see if it's cheaper. And then like- It's, I-... like, what, what's the reason why?

Yet, yet I'll piss away so much money every month- Dude... on food, my friends, tipping. Like, it, it's a sickness. We've, we've never talked about this.

Every time I do, every time I'm booking a flight, even to San Francisco, right? I will p- It's so funny. I will penny-pinch.

I will sh- shop, I will price shop so, uh, diligently, and I have the exact same thought you do is that, yet, here I am betting exponentially more on things- Not even talking about betting, right...

without even, without even thinking about it. Without even thinking about it. Right. Yeah. It's so- No, it's, it's sick... we all have our- I'm telling you... we all have our ridiculous little quirks like that. Yeah.

No, I, I, I'm telling you, if I think about it, it's, it's, it's, it's unbelievable why, why I would do something like that. But I'm telling you, though, that this, this past trip really got to me.

Um- Uh, Joe Abraham says, "The red-eyes back east from Vegas are a no-go once you're 30 years old," [laughs] he says. 30? Same, same, same goes for Spirit- Wow... and the like. No amount of money saved is worth it.

Yeah, I had an experience on Frontier once. Never again. Not doing that again. Um, but- One of my guys just said the same thing. G- Joe, my, my buddy Joe from Ohio, he says, "I fly Breeze nonstop to Vegas.

There's only two seats on one side of the plane, or B, they fly you out of Akron, Ohio." Let me tell you something.

When I go to Connecticut, Hartford, which I'm probably not gonna go no more because of the DraftKings situation, um, when I was going to Foxwoods, I would fly Breeze from Vegas to Hartford. That was such a breeze.

You were the first person to ever tell me about Breeze. Oh, my God, it's such a- Yeah... such a ple- And then I went to go, then I went to, uh, where did I go nonstop from Vegas? I went to, uh, Fort Myers, Flor- Florida.

So now they have a first class, but their first class is one-third of the plane. So- [laughs]... one-third of the plane, all big seats- Yeah... nice plane. So that- Believe it or not, that makes them reasonable.

It was, like, 375 for one-way, first class 450. That's very, very... Uh, I, I like British Airline- Vegas- So Joe is right...

leaving Vegas also has become, when I used to visit my mom, I once got, you know, I once was delayed 10 hours where they made us get on the plane not once, but twice, and deplane.

So I think there's something about Vegas also. It's not an easy, the travel to the East Coast is also much more problematic than it is, say, going from the West Coast, going from San Francisco or LA. Right.

So Vegas gets the worst of it oftentimes with those kinds of trips. I have had more problems too, I hate to s- throw Spirit under the bus, but, uh, I've had more problems where I had to deplane.

Like I, first of all, I haven't flown out of town too much. Uh, literally once in the last year, I went to my, my buddy Teddy Atlas's event in November. I didn't fly out since then. And so

I used to go all the time though. You would not believe how many times I had problems on Spirit from Vegas- Oh, I believe it... or- I believe it... to Vegas. Like, they had a, they made us deplane twice that I- Yeah...

can think of- For-... 'cause of a fight on the plane. Oh. [laughs] You know, like no, it's, it's crazy. But [laughs] see, that's- One of the, the stewardess touched a girl, a girl's Nikes- Yes...

and the- Because don't do that... the girl went crazy. [laughs] No, she lo- she lost it. That's- I, I couldn't believe it... so that's a very Spirit story. Like, I had a similar one on Frontier.

But the, my delay- Frontier, yeah... my delay was one of the big carriers, it was, like, American, and they lie to your face. Oh, okay. They lie- Right... as to why it's happening. You know, they bold face lies.

Anyway, um- I got something to talk about tonight. I really wanted to open up with it. Yeah. I, I w- I really wanted to open up with it. Please do.

I, I know it's been talked about all week, uh, with Dave Sharpan, I know. Yes. But my relationship goes back with Dave t- long time, 25 years.

And then I went, I was, I was really happy to see him at the Golden Nugget, I guess almost 20 years ago, um, working for Tony Miller there. And, um, you know, it, it's been that long.

I guess we, we can, uh, we can talk about that now. I, I actually wrote it down, which I usually don't. It's an unscripted show. I said, "I gotta talk about Dave though." So, m- I, I'm allowed to say it now.

Um, for years I worked for the great Billy Walters, and I say the great because that's what I think he was to a lot of people, very generous to people, helped people out, loaned anyone money, gave millions to charities.

But I know people think he's the devil because he wins, and people just don't like him. So I got one of our guys at the Golden Nugget. Dave is working the counter.

For years, my, you know, for a couple years r- there at the counter. And, um, you could verify this, anyone that, that wants, wants to with Tony, I don't care.

Tony didn't know who, who, who it was, but Tony knew that it was me. So he thought it was me or, or, you know, he knew I was working with someone sharp, just didn't know who. So

we got a guy going to the counter and, and g- getting all the games ahead of time. You know, this is before apps and everything. And, um, Dave's working the counter.

Well, it just so happens that my guy went on vacation for two weeks, so I had another person in there, a guy that I know for years. Good guy, and a guy I know for years.

I walk in one day and Dave's at the counter going like this, "Crack, crack," with, with his hand over his throat like, slight throat, and like, "Oh, Crack, you gotta get in there," like, "I'm so glad you're here."

Like, I, we didn't have... There wa- there wasn't even iPhones back then. And, um, what happened was the guy I put in there blew 7,000 betting horses in two days. You know, so he had a bankroll- Wow...

which, you know, he, he had a good bankroll, and he blew 7,000 betting horses. And you know what's funny? When he seen me, the guy, he was very honest. He s- he started crying. He's like, "I'm so sorry.

This, this is not for me. I can't handle it." Like, you know, so it's unbelievable. That guy paid me back the 7,000. It took him about six, seven years. Honor. Honor, he paid it back. I love it.

And he's still a good guy in the industry, but he just couldn't handle the, the horse racing, uh, there. And, and so Sharpan was at the counter.

I remember Dave at the counter there, and, um, known him for many years, and I knew him over at, at the M, of course, Cantor Gaming. I met him when he was at The Venetian- Oh, okay... for a brief spell.

I didn't even know he was there. Yeah, mm-hmm. Wow. Yeah, this was- Did he, was he working for Cantor there? Yes, so this was, like, 2017, 2018- Okay... so must have been that, yeah. Okay. Uh-huh.

Yeah, this is going back, like I said, almost, like, 20 years ago. Um- The biggest line I can say about Dave, and I didn't know him nearly as well as you- Yeah...

I was saying, I, I don't know him as, as well as many people did, and I wish I did because he was always, he always had a smile. Always smiling, always laughing. Always smiling.

But the line that everybody says, and I think this is accurate, in a little corner of the world that we inhabit, our little sports betting world- Yeah... it's very rare for anybody to be universally beloved. Yeah.

But Dave was that guy. Yeah, all the different hats and the outfits he wore. Yeah. He was, he was a cartoon character. Yeah. [laughs] You know, the, like, like on, you know- In the best sense of the word. Yeah. Yeah.

Of course, in the best sense of the word. Yeah. Um, yeah, no, I, he, he was in Curacao, by the way. He was offshore, um, in a couple different places. I think he worked for the guy n- I, uh, I'm not gonna say the name.

He worked for a, a big guy offshore who was still, um, I think, I, I believe offshore. Um, uh, I don't know if he's in Costa Rica or not, but anyway, so he w- Dave knew the industry inside and out. Yeah.

So to know both sides of the counter a little bit, and, uh, this really bothered me that this poor guy died at this young age.

He's so much younger than me, uh, a couple years younger than me, and, uh, he's gonna, I, I seen his services are gonna be next weekend, and I'm, I'm going to go, uh, next weekend, Saturday and Sunday, I believe.

Listen to this. Do you know how m- what the handle was on the Monday Night Football game this past Monday night, the handle on the Ravens-Lions Monday Night Football game at Calci? Oh, oh, just the Calci app?

I don't know if it's so much of a savings per se, but, um, I, I think it's really good for the markets like Texas and California, which don't have the legal sports betting.

Um, this brings me to the point where I came, remember where I came in and I said I'm shocked about something? Yeah. Listen, I was just away, like I said, back on the East Coast. I was wrong about something.

And they were saying, "Oh, yeah, that now this, all the bookmakers are gonna close down," and I laughed because now I'm thinking all these new kids, they're gonna f- try to find bookmakers. I was wrong.

Nothing to do with the mafia, but this is the second old-school BM, bookmaker, that I have ran into that had 100 customers that's out of business now. For seven years, he hasn't booked a bet.

The other guy, literally was, was one of the kings of it. He hasn't booked a bet. Why? All of his clients have went to the DraftKing, FanDuel. They see the advertisements.

They see the bonuses, the same-game parlays, and they're all gone. They ha- he actually closed shop. I was like, "Wow, you're kidding me."

He goes, "Yeah, immediately I lost, like, immediately I lost, like, 30, 40 customers, and, you know, it dwindled away to nothing." And he goes, "I haven't booked a bet in years." Interesting.

I was like, "Get out of here. You were one of the biggest I knew." I couldn't believe, like, I am wrong. That has hurt old-school bookmakers, the, the, the sportsbooks being open.

this is a new genre of, of people that never bet before now are, that are betting, and of course, when they run out of money, they're gonna go to their pool hall, candy store, corner store and say, "Hey, do you know a bookmaker?"

I'm actually wrong because th- that client you don't even want because they lost all their money. They have no money, and they're looking for credit. It's, it's an interesting thing- So this is-... that I did not know...
