He's one of those idiots who believe in analytics. This is a Numbers Game, with Gil Alexander on VSiN. Good Wednesday morning to you. 1:04 This is Numbers Game at VSiN, the sports betting network, vsin.com, Game Plus, iHeartRadio, YouTube TV, and of course, SiriusXM channel 158. It's Gil Alexander. That right there is Kelly Bidlin. Hey-o. 1:14 Kelly Bidlin on Twitter. What's happening, man? Not much. Good morning. July tube. Oh, it's gone now. They, they went away. No, it's not. Yeah, they just- No, it is not... 1:21 they literally went away [laughs] right as you were gonna- No, it's not. The pulley- Oh. Oh, I'm being- No, they're down below. I'm being blocked by the post, that's why. Yeah, yeah. Uh, would you like to brag? 1:29 We're gonna start the show with a brag? There's a pulley system. Escalator is being fixed, the same escalator that I brought this up about, what was it, a week ago? Mm-hmm. Less than a week ago. Yeah. 1:39 And it's being fixed again today with a full pulley system, chains, and everything. I'm telling you, Gil. Tonight. You could charge whatever. 1:47 You, like, you think Derek's actually l- breaking down that bill and being like, "Oh, I don't know, let me compare"? 1:51 Like, it's- You, you think you can give him a better deal with the new Kelly Bidlin, uh, escalator- Yeah, like $1 better. $1 better... escalator repair service. All right. Boom. You got that out of the way. I did. 1:59 Brag corroborated. We need to fix our- Well done... our s- our sports book camera so we can get every angle of it. 2:05 [laughs] Will Hill will join us here this hour, all of his bets, college football, pro football, Major League Baseball, whatever he's got. Yesterday we did the AFC power rankings. That went so fabulously well. 2:15 We'll do the NFC today, one through 16. We're pretty similar on the AFC, all things told. Uh, Tim Murray will join us, talk college football, week one, his thoughts from week zero as well. 2:27 Nick Whalen will join us from Prop Points, NFL, and a little fantasy football. Got some fantasy questions perhaps for him. 2:34 Uh, and then, uh, with Win Total Wednesdays, we'll take a look at NFC win totals, just, uh, another gander at those. Also some AFC win totals, I believe. Just think what our best, what our favorites are. Yep, mm-hmm. 2:43 Just to revisit that. Um, and a whole bunch more on the show today, including, starting with the tennis. Let's get that out of the way. Yesterday I had eight tennis plays. Eight. 2:53 Oh, by the way, both the Red Sox and Blue Jays lost yesterday. September 1st. Ugh. Not a good start. Um, ba- uh, tennis. Had eight plays yesterday. Eight. 3:03 Six went to conclusion, 'cause there was rain in New York, so two are still pending. Uh, if my goal yesterday with those eight plays was to have as close to a wash as possible- [laughs]... 3:15 it's exactly what I accomplished. The six that- Yeah... concluded went three and three and made five cents, 0.05 units. Nice. Not five cents, but you get it, 5% of a unit. 3:32 Um, and then the two that are pending, so the wins were on Sacckyri, your boy Monfils, who you played. That's right. You played Monfils. Monfils, let's go, baby. Uh, and then the, uh, the third one was on Artur Geya. 3:45 I don't know how you pronounce that. Geya? The losses were, the losses yesterday were, let me see if I can remember, Knudsen. 3:52 Um, the first one was, uh, Corneaava, when we were on air yesterday, and the third one was, I can't remember. But anyway, they went three and three. We barely won anything at all. And the two that are pending 4:04 are both tied. One is one set a piece, the other is four to four. 4:08 That's Magdalena Frech, four to four against Ivo Jovic, daddy's girl, and then the set a piece between the Hamburger Ostapenko and our girl, Tatjana Maria. So those are pending. Those will conclude today. 4:19 Today there are six additional picks in, uh, in addition to the two that are pending. Like, how many matches from yesterday got rained out that are gonna be pushed to today? 4:27 Uh, a fe- a few on the men's side didn't even get to start. Okay. 4:31 So we have the remainder of the first round, the, the stragglers from the first round, both partial and full, which are just a few matches today, and then the second round begins today. 4:40 And in the second round what we have is three on the men's side, three on the ladies' side. Uh, Jacob Fearnley on the men's side, plus 117 versus Tomas Martin Etcheverry. Lloyd Harris, South African, South African. 4:53 Lloyd. Plus 195 versus Stefanos Tsitsipas. And then James Duckworth. We're going back to the James Duckworth well. He was a, uh, big dog winner for us early. We can take him again against Yibing Wu. 5:04 So Fearnley, Harris, Duckworth on the men's side. On the ladies' side, you wanna try these, Kelly? Oh, boy, sure. Oksana Selak-Meteva verse Kamila Rakomova, Rakomova. Rakomova. 5:17 You've played, y- you, we've played, you've played her or against her before. Yes. Rakomova. Yes. Okay, and then Lo- okay, so that's money on the, on the Selak-Meteva money line, plus 147 versus Rakomova. Uh-huh. 5:29 And then the next one, Lanlana Tararudi, money line plus 350 versus Linda Noskova, and then Caty McNally, money line plus 108 versus Emma Navarro. Well done. Well done. Thanks. Who was it? 5:42 Oh, Daria Mid- uh, Vidmonova also lost yesterday. That's the one we forgot. Vidmonova. Yeah, she lost also. You can never trust her. Um, so again- Standing for years... 5:49 sorry, there's a long way to go for a three and three plus 0.05 units, so. Well, it happens, man. Two pending. You know what that's better than? Losing. It's better than going O and eight. Yeah. I'm told. 6:01 It's like Spurrier. Five and 11. Yeah, you know what happened to me again yesterday watching tennis? Not too good. Watched a lot of tennis yesterday. Yeah. 6:08 I got, I got lost in Cobolli's eyes again He's- That, that man... he's a good-looking man. Those eyes. Flavio Cobolli. Then ca- what, came back from down 0-2. Bro- Wins that match. Whew... all, all those... 6:19 By the way, you see, uh, you see the Zverev, Sasha Zverev, number one seed- Yep... in quotes, right? He survived a scare against Lorenzo Sonego last night. 6:30 Uh, Lorenzo Sonego, whose last accomplishments were his amazing performance in Karate Kid I and II. 6:36 [laughs] But the other Italian players, they're all like, I mean, Cobolli and, and Musetti, and Berrettini, like those dudes are ridiculous. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. The eyes. It's like from the Jimmy Garoppolo tree. 6:49 Yeah. Right, yeah, yeah. Yeah. From the Garoppolo tree. Exactly. From the Garoppolo coaching tree. [laughs] That's right. Anyway, those are your six today. Fearnley, Harris, Duckworth men's side. 6:56 Selak Metavet, Tara Rudy is the big, big dog. She's Thai, taking on Linda Noskova and then Caty McNally, as Kelly said. Okay. We did this on August 10th. I don't know why I did it on August 10th. 7:08 I was just coming back from vacation. Well, I can tell you why, 'cause I like got down a rabbit hole of this travel- Yeah, it's what happens [laughs]... between the Niners and the, uh, and the Rams. 7:15 And so I just vomited it out the first day I got back from vacation. So next week, NFL season begins. This just in, special numbers game investigation reveals the NFL begins on Wednesday. 7:24 Super Bowl rematch between the Seahawks and the Patriots. Thursday, the next night, from Melbourne, Australia, that's Melbourne, Australia, it is the Niners against the Rams. 7:35 And because the Niners and Rams decided to attack this, approach this different when it comes to travel, starkly differently based on their team's philosophies, um, I thought it was pretty interesting. And so I... 7:49 By the way, Rams favored by three and a half in Melbourne, in Melbourne Cricket Ground, Thursday night our time. Mm-hmm. Um- And this is, I mean, Niners leave today. 7:59 So this is, this is what inspired us to rehash this is, as, uh, Drew Maxwell, producer perhaps number 11- Mm-hmm... let us know the, the Niners have gone. They, they have traveled, they have started their journey. 8:10 They are on their way to Melbourne. The r- And the Rams aren't doing it till right up before game time. 8:15 So first of all, I did a deep dive on historical international series, which the NFL started in 2007, and I wanted to just sort of get a, get a, get some sort of sense, if I could. I don't know. 8:25 It's gonna take me forever to do it. I did it. Is there anything to teams that travel early versus teams that travel late to the international games? 8:32 And specifically, I threw out the Brazil game and the Mexico games, um, and I just focused on Ireland, Germany, and England. I know it's not Australia, but that was the closest I could get to time zone shifts. Right. 8:46 So after throwing out, and I had to do the research of, of each game, who traveled when. Throwing out all the games where the teams traveled on the same day and arrived on the same day landed with 26 qualifying games. 8:57 26 games over the international series qualify since 2007. Straight up, the team that goes earlier, and my definition of earlier is at least one day earlier, teams that travel earlier are 14 and 12 straight up, 9:10 17 and nine against the spread in favor of the teams that travel early. Yeah. All right. Yeah. We're not a trend show, but I just thought I'd throw that out there. 9:18 That took me forever to, to figure this stuff out with all the research. Yeah, that 17 and nine though, man. Ever since they started doing it, doing this, we, we kinda all, we at least... 9:27 I mean, look, I don't, I'm not gonna sit here and say we bet every one of these, but- No... kind of from the beginning it was like, "Man, that has to be an advantage, right?" 9:34 Now, before you ri- race to bet the N- the Niners, who are already on their way to Australia- Mm-hmm... 9:40 know that these two franchises, their per- their, their individual franchise history with the international games, again, the ones in Europe, the Niners had one in 2010 and one in 2013. 9:52 They traveled earlier than their opponents both times. They won and they covered both times. 9:55 So the Niners, I know it's a long time ago, but at least they have this muscle memory in that for, in that building, as they like to say, of traveling early. They believe in that philosophy. 10:04 The Rams have had four international games in Europe. The first two times they did it, they traveled early. Guess what? They lost and didn't cover both times, and then they switched and they said, "We're going late. 10:15 We're going right up at game time. We're gonna power through jet lag." Mm-hmm. "We're not gonna adapt to the time. We're not gonna acclimate to the new time zone." Guess what? 10:24 They went 2 and 0 and they were 2 and 0 against the spread. So this is why these two teams have arrived at this conclusion, and in fact, um, the Rams, if you're wondering, "Okay, so I get it, the Niners are going. 10:37 When are the Rams going?" So the game is Thursday night our time, but remember, that's gonna be Friday morning Melbourne time. 10:46 So the Rams, I'm gonna do this by Pacific Time Zone because both of these teams are obviously Pacific Time Zone teams. The Rams are gonna leave 5:00 AM Wednesday next week, our time. They're gonna arrive 10:58 9:00 PM our time Wednesday night. Let's say they'll get to bed 11:00 PM our time. They'll have breakfast 8:00 AM our time Thursday. The game our time is 5:35, but it's really Friday morning over there. Yeah. 11:14 So the Rams are... And, and remember, when we first did this August 10th, the Rams actually did a test run. 11:22 Do you know like the old couple that lives next door to you, and there's like, there's event downtown and they're scared to go, so they do like test run- I forgot this part of it... the day before? Yeah. 11:29 So the Rams this off-season, uh, actually had people from their organization fly from LA to Melbourne and back. Can you imagine? In the off-season, "Hey, you guys go to Melbourne and come back." This is crazy. 11:39 "Let us know how it goes." Tracked when and how much they felt the effects of the jet lag. 11:42 They came to the conclusion that the best way to handle it would in fact be to prepare at home, fly as close to the game as possible, let adrenaline carry them through the game, and then fly right home and rest up on the back end. 11:51 Their week two game, the Rams that is, is Monday night at home against the Giants. I had mentioned also last time, I've never been to Australia. The closest I've come, I went to Korea several years ago. 12:04 We had some jet lag on the way there, uh, when we arrived there, but the real bad jet lag was when we came back. So I believe that the real effect of this, and I know the Niners play the Dolphins- Mm... 12:15 so they get the best of it- Yeah... the next week. I just think that it's going to affect the Niners more after this game, regardless of opponent. I think it, it'll be a point spread situation for us. 12:28 I think if that's the betting opportunity, that's my instinct on it. As far as this is concerned, I kinda think the Rams are playing it right, man. Just act like you're not in Australia. Mm-hmm. Just power through it. 12:39 We're not acclimating no time zone. Like, I, I don't- Oh... as much as I've talked about Jesse Minter, I don't know how many times I've seen his face. 13:45 I don't, I don't know if I could pick him out of a lineup. And then there's, like, Mike McCarthy. Doesn't it f- doesn't it feel like we've seen this shot of Mike McCarthy- Oh my God... 13:53 like nine million times over- That, that facial expression... yeah Yeah... over the last 30 years? The, "Well, I don't know what else- [laughs]... what other play to pick here. I'll just go with this one," expression. 14:03 I, I call plays. Rodgers does whatever he wants. Whatever. Okay. I don't know. Let me, let me try this one. 14:07 [laughs] I still say this als- als- also about, because people were pushing back on my ranking of the Steelers yesterday in the AFC. I had them third to last. You had them sixth to last. 14:16 I had them third to last, which a lot of Pittsburgh fans, outlandish. And I talk about the age of the team, but the other thing I brought up is, will, will Mike McCarthy have the onions? 14:26 If Aaron Rodgers just stinks- Mm-hmm... is just no account, hapless, horrible, will he have the onions to pull him for one of the kids? I do not think so. I don't know. 14:41 I, I feel like, I feel- And that's also a big problem... my answer would be different too if I felt like it was someone special waiting in the wings. You know what I mean? But, like, I don't know. 14:50 Are you suggesting that Will Howard is unspecial? Yeah, like, I don't know if Will Howard or Drew Aller is, like, really the future of this franchise. What about Mason Rudolph? 14:56 But, but, like, Mike McCarthy at th- I mean, he's gotta worry about his career too, right? Like, this is... I, I would hope so, to answer your question. I don't really know that he will though. Right. 15:08 That's what I'm asking. I think it's a valid question. It is a valid question. Uh, LFC Title Records on Twitter, "Derek Stevens ready to sign the Bidland escalator repair contract. $1 saved is $1 earned." That's right. 15:19 Bidland- I just, I just gotta, like, learn how to, like, start a business. Like, what actually goes into escalators, you know, stuff like that. Find out what the pricing is, and then cut them all by a dollar. 15:27 Yeah, like, so then I'm gonna hire... You know, you always gotta, you gotta hire good people, right? But then I'm gonna end up overpaying someone that has experience in the business. Yeah, should probably be a disaster. 15:36 [laughs] Well, there goes that. [laughs] Shrek McPhee, "Do we really think the Rams are just pulling the idea out of their behind?" I, I said behind, he said something else. 15:44 Well, no, Shrek, that's why I just did the segment. He goes, "They've clearly trialed this method," uh, that's what I talked about, "and believe it's the better option." That's what I talked about. 15:52 "Interesting to see the outcome either way. I think the lag will be week two more than anything week one for each team." What happens when people just regurgitate what I say then end with a tweet? 16:00 It's, it's been happening more recently too. It's, like, kinda odd. But yeah, I, I... Okay, we, I didn't get to follow up on it. I love the... I love both of their plans. Yeah. 16:09 What I, what I wouldn't love is the team that's goes out there, like, three days early, right? Like, I think- Splitting the difference in other words? R- r- Yes. 16:15 Yeah, like, I'm either doing what the Niners are doing- Agree... or what the Rams are doing. Agree. I'm not doing anything in between, so I'm a- I'm very fascinated to see what the results are with this. 16:24 And then, like, I told you off air, I really hope the Rams are smart enough to put their social media team on... I mean, these, the hotel's gotta be set up, right? Where they're kinda secluded. 16:35 Blackout curtains are set up for them to sleep the one night that they're gonna sleep there, right? Like, that, that's gotta be pretty cool. I hope they give us, uh, some insight into that. 16:44 Jesse Welch, "Just want to take a moment to remind everyone that in the month the Red Sox won, they lost their first game of the month before [laughs] going on to win in the next month by, uh, in the rest of the month by a landslide. 16:52 Take the opportunity to add on at a better number, y'all." There you go, Jesse. Keeping it positive. Way to go. Uh, and then Jared Still, apparently our, our old buddy Sam Monson- Yeah... 17:03 don't tell me he has an Irish accent. Sam? He didn't like that when I said, "Hey, do I detect an Irish accent?" Do you remember that? He didn't- Mm-hmm... he didn't really seem to like that on Primetime Action. 17:09 Where's Sam working these days? Still at- Um, I think still pro football. Pro football? That's right. Okay. Let me just make sure of that. Uh- Nope, for- Oh... former over there... formerly of PFF. That's what I said. 17:19 [laughs] Oh, he does say Irish NFL analyst now. Okay, there you go. Uh, Sam's great. We love Sam. But, uh, apparently he brought this, he said on Twitter, um, this was about an hour ago. 17:31 He said, I said, "I think it's fascinating that both San Francisco and the Rams are being guided by their science teams and being led to complete opposite conclusions about when to travel for this game, and it's not necessarily contradictory. 17:39 They're just focusing on different things. Rams laser focused on sleep schedule, body clock adjustments. 49ers more focused on hydration and nutrition coming off a long ass flight," he says. Uh- It is interesting... 17:50 and Jared Still, the reason that I know this is Jared Still in our, uh, chat, says, "Gil, the host of a Numbers Game on VSiN, did a great breakdown on this a week a-," uh, it was a month ago actually. 17:58 "Fascinating, as you said, how they arrived at their conclusions." And then he analyzed the betting out- outcomes. I'll see if I can find it, because I think he recently reposted it. I didn't. I d- it was August 10th. 18:06 I couldn't, I... It took me a while to find it My, my favorite part, by the way, we ta- I remember we talked about this after we did it. There's an episode of Silicon Valley where they kinda do this too. 18:15 But these, these businesses- Oh, yeah... that just have so much money, right? Like, were you bro- what was it, the Rams that you brought up of, like, "We're gonna send a team of people over there in advance." 18:24 Can you imagine being those guys that got sent, like, "What, what are you doing this week?" "Uh, our team is sending me to Melbourne." What? [laughs] "I got work. I got work. I gotta go to Australia." 18:32 "What are you doing there?" I just- Nothing... I just gotta go there and, like, run around a track for an hour and a half. Yeah, turn around and come back. And then turn around and fly back on the private jet. 18:39 That's how I picture it. All right, you're gonna have to, uh, run, uh, run interference here, 'cause I'm gonna have some questions, 'cause I can't find it on my, uh, DraftKings. World Series match-ups. 18:50 We brought this up yesterday. We were gonna talk about this yesterday, but i- because these are all done 18:55 not by odds, right, not the general progression of shortest odds to longest odds, but by here's one team against seven others- Yeah... and then they go to the next team. So Kelly had to, uh, put this together. 19:05 Yeah, you know, it takes me a while to put this together, and then, and then I also had to r- Ryan, who builds our graphics every day- Oh... and then Andrew's a part of this discussion. I had to send them a message. 19:14 I'm like, "Hey, let me know of w- any idiotic, like, oversights here. What am I missing?" But I didn't miss anything. Well- So these are i- in order. @mgm. Good job, MGM. Oh, BetMGM. 19:24 'Cause- That's, I'm looking at the wrong place... most of these shops don't post them anymore. It's wild. Okay, that's why I can't find it, 'cause I was looking at DraftKings. Okay, BetMGM has this. Nice job, BetMGM. 19:32 Uh, you will notice, the first thing you will notice is not only is the Yankees-Dodgers the short shot of them all, but the first five include the Dodgers. 19:39 Yankees-Dodgers seven to one, Rays-Dodgers plus 750, Red Sox-Dodgers 12 to one, White Sox-Dodgers 13 to one, Astros-Dodgers 17 to one. 19:48 No NL, excuse me, uh, yeah, no third wild card in the AL is paired with the Dodgers till you get the Guardians at 28 to one. So- [scoffs] W-... Dodgers still dominate after all of this. 20:00 Yeah, we're used to that whenever we look at this market. Yeah. And then you'll see some combination of Braves and Brewers and Yankees, all, y- you see on your screen. So again, those are the shortest shots. 20:08 The one pairing that is not pictured, which if you could find, what are the Red Sox versus the Phillies? That's immediately the one I would bet. 20:19 And again, Garrett Crochet is going to be a bullpen part for the Red Sox when he comes back here in late September and then into the postseason. 20:27 The Red Sox have already said, "He's gonna be part of our bullpen," a bullpen that already includes Garrett Whitlock and Aroldis Chapman. 20:34 So this is a 2015 Kansas City Royals situation when they won the World Series, except it's not, uh, Herrera, Wilson, and Holland. It's, in whatever order, Crochet, Whitlock, and Chapman. 20:50 And as Joe Sheehan pointed out yesterday, the added benefit of Crochet is if your starter sucks, he's getting beat up early, you can just bring in Crochet then too- Yeah... if he hasn't- That's huge... 21:02 if he hasn't been taxed yet. So I don't know. I love the Red Sox, how they, how they're formed for the postseason. Of course, they got Trevor Story back. They got Roman Anthony back in the lineup. Let's see. 21:14 As far as the Phillies, I mean, who, uh, Phillies are the best team that doesn't have short odds in all of this. Guessing Lines returns in two weeks, right? Oh, okay. Let's play the Guessing Lines game. 21:24 What do you think this is? Best guess. Our graphic ended at 35 to one. Well, I'll say 40 to one. 55 to one at MGM. I'll, give me it. Give me that. I figured you'd be right, right off. I mean, look, I'll go bet it myself. 21:37 I'm just getting literally better. Figuratively speaking, I, I like that the best. 55 to one on the Red Sox versus the Phillies. Again, the Dodgers versus the Red Sox also not... Oh, no, that's 12 to one. 21:51 Phillies versus the Yankees. What's the Phillies-Yankees? Oh, 35 to one. The, the one I'll point out, I thought Ryan Pineda brought this up. Um, I know he's a fan, so this is why he spotted this. 22:02 But he, he pointed out that not a lot of, we don't have a lot of Cubs on this screen, right? It's only Yankees versus Cubs. Anything involving the Cubs, they're kind of that next tier down. 22:11 So you'll find, like, 50, 60, 70s usually. The re- the reason that the Phillies, the reason that 55 to one is actually a better number than 40 to one, I'm glad it's 55 to one. Mm-hmm. 22:19 I was just guessing 40, 'cause I thought they'd s- try to skrr us a little more. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But the reason it's 50- Maybe Kelly's leading you somewhere too, yeah... 22:26 no, the reason it's 55 to one is the Red Sox and Phillies, barring some big change in the next three and a half weeks, they're both going to have to play a best of three. Yeah. 22:36 And so that's the, that's the stumbling block in all this. That's the fly in the ointment in all this, because any team, uh, by the way, this could apply to the Dodgers too, it should be pointed out. 22:46 They may be subjected to a best of three if they don't mind their P's and Q's here down the stretch. What does that mean, by the way, mind your P's and Q's? 22:52 But that's the real reason why a Phillies-Red Sox, any two teams that are likely to have to endure a best of three or to go through a best of three, it's the famous Billy Beane quote, "My blank, my shiz, does not work in the postseason," right? 23:07 And what, all he means by that is there's not enough sample size for Moneyball to manifest. There's not enough sample size for anything to manifest in a best of three in baseball. Anything can happen. 23:16 You a believer with that, with the, uh, with the Brewers? What, what Paul was- A lot of people saying, like, the Brewers can... Yeah, yeah. What Spora was saying yesterday. What was the crux of that again? I forgot. 23:23 Ju- just, just that this team, the way that, that they beat you up, the, through the regular season- Yeah, through-... just does not translate with the home runs- Yeah... starting pitching into the playoffs. 23:33 Yeah, I think there's a degree of that. It's one thing to manage 162 games. It's another thing to be constructed for best of threes and best of fives. Mm-hmm. For sure. 23:42 Will Hill, all his bets next on a Numbers Game at VSiN, the sports betting network. [upbeat music] A Numbers Game on VSiN, the sports betting network. You got the sniffles over there, man? Yeah. Oh, yeah. 23:59 It's dusty in here. My nose is running [laughs] We get sweeps, be the book. K Flow, "Absolutely agree with the jet lag comments. I've flown all over the world for work and the return is always the beat down." The return. 24:11 Mm. "Only return solution I've found is immediately plan your flight sleep schedule to the local time you're heading to power through, but it ain't easy." Yeah, I just, I believe in what the Rams are doing. 24:22 I absolutely believe it. And, you know, they go, they go private. They could stretch out. Yeah. They'll be comfortable. They get those little pods. Everybody gets one of those pods. Xavier82, "Good morning, gentlemen. 24:34 Let's have an awesome freaking day." He's got a Nisimova and Medvedev in quarters. Riding our quarter ble- bets. This is always interesting. 24:41 Thank you to, uh, PK Mountain Steeler Den, who is, uh, tweeting, quote tweeting the DraftKings visual representation of NFL fandom this season through their bets to win the Super Bowl. 24:53 So it's a map of the US, and you see per state which team is bet the most to win the Super Bowl, and it is exactly what you think it is. Yeah. It is so regionally biased, it's incredible. 25:05 Like, we, when we first did, uh, primetime action was when legalization happened, and DraftKings used to put out these- Mm-hmm... they used to do it weekly for NFL games. Remember? We would... 25:15 And we'd always be fascinated by like, wow, Tennessee, it doesn't matter what the Titan spread is, they are always betting the Titans. They, they were- Right, so like 90% of the bet. It was incredible... 25:23 they were like the be- the most loyal home state. The most loyal betters to their team. Yeah. A lo- loyal is a strange word. Right. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Maybe biased, right? Yeah. We, we- But-... 25:32 used to get even more information than we'd talk about. I mean, how much of it... Like, we'd get so much info on that stuff- Yeah... that we just, we didn't find that entertaining, so we didn't bring it up. 25:39 But yeah, it's, it is pretty wild, that one. But to win the Super Bowl, uh, Kansas City, three states right in the middle of the country. Mm-hmm. 25:45 Seattle in the Pacific Northwest, the Rams in El, you know, in California and Arizona, the Raiders in Nevada, the Broncos throughout the, the Rocky Mountain states, right? Like, it's just exactly what you would expect. 25:57 Minnesota and Green Bay dominating the North. The only sort of random one I can see, you know, Cincinnati and Ohio and, and, and in Kentucky, S- Skins in DC, Eagles in F- in Pennsylvania. The only random one, Montana. 26:12 Any guesses who you think Montana has winning the Super Bowl? They don't have a team, obviously. Well, I'd go r- I would go Raiders. 26:18 There's a strong Las Vegas connection, but they're, but the Raiders are, are so bad this year. They did not go with them. They went with the Dallas Cowboys. Buffalo Bills. 26:27 That's like the only anomaly here on the whole thing. Because they know what a good quarterback's like. That's what they- [laughs] They, they just know. They know up there. Ah. 26:34 Hi- Higgins, Higgins probably voted on this a ton. We'll get to some other tweets here. Soon as he got to Montana, he's like, "I got something to do for Kelly Bidlin." 26:41 We'll get to some other tweets, but Will Hill is joining us this morning for a couple segments, and, uh, w- in addition to his bets, and he's got a bunch in baseball, in college football, in the NFL, including season longs and one week one play as well. 26:53 Uh, he has a story, a sports book story for us. Will Hill joins us now courtesy of the Progressive Guest Line. You can follow him on Twitter at not the Will Hill, two Es on the the. 27:02 He is the host of the Shoulda Bet More podcast, which comes to you three times a week. Not once, not twice, three times a week. Um, I think Lionel Richie wrote a song about that once. Commodores. Will, good morning. 27:13 What, what is this story you wanted to share with us? What happened? What's going on, guys? Great to be with you. 27:19 Yeah, I feel like I'm stepping on the, uh, the crack man's territory because this is more of like a, a crack man, uh, you know, h- more his content. But was at the local, I, I'll say it 'cause I tweeted it out. 27:28 The, the local Fanatics just doing some stuff, cashing some tickets. Everyone there is super nice, except for one person. Any time, any sort of transaction, interaction, it is the biggest inc- inconvenience on her day. 27:41 So I hand her something, she turns around, and under my breath I had a few choice words. [laughs] Uh, an adjective and a noun- Oh... and I will say- Oh, no... as bad as her attitude is, her hearing is just fine. 27:52 [laughs] And, uh, she goes, "I heard that." I- she goes, "I heard that." I said, "Well, it's the truth." And that, that's, that's how it ended. Wow. Well, wait, wait. Well, okay. Yeah. It- So Fanatics... 28:01 And, and set this up, 'cause you know we're- You're in, you're in Connecticut, right- Yeah. We're in-... first of all... we're in Casino World- Yeah... Las Vegas. When you say Fanatics, is this like a standalone- Yeah... 28:09 a standalone building you're going into, part of something else? Yeah. Standalone building. 28:15 They have kiosks, they have some TVs, kind of a race book, uh, thing, but they've got, you know, cashiers if you wanna make a deposit, if you wanna cash your tickets, that kinda thing. When... Be a little more detailed. 28:24 So b- what, what elicited, what, what provoked you s- muttering something under your breath with adjective and noun? Just her- I love that... general attitude and e- eye rolling and, and just... 28:34 I mean, you would have thought I was asking for like a kidney or something. 28:38 [laughs] I mean, and it's just, it's every time with her, and it, again, everyone else is nice, and one of her, uh, coworkers said, "Good for you. We c- like we can't stand her," basically. So- Wow... 28:46 I think, uh, w- I feel, I feel vindicated. I want the video and audio. I feel like W- Will was pulling a Chris Foster. Oh, boy. He- He was up at the desk doing like a 17 leg parlay, and she was just speaking the truth. 28:56 No. She was just not happy with you. No. [laughs] Okay. No. Well. She was in the wrong. I would've been vindicated. That video would've gone viral, and I would've, uh, I would've been vindicated. 29:04 And I'm not, like I don't, you know, I don't, uh, clash with people. I'm not confrontational. I'm nice to pe- you know, I don't, uh, give waiters and bartenders a hard time. 29:13 I just, I, I, I get along f- f- you know, for the most part with people I think as you guys probably realize. So this was- You're an overall good guy. Yeah. I, again, I feel j- I feel vindicated. 29:20 I feel justified with this. Yeah, last question on this. If the w- if the wife were with you and she had observed this, would she have been on Team Will or Team Ticket Writer? Ooh. Yes. Team Will. Team Will. Okay. 29:31 Yes, 100%. That's really the corroboration I want. Do you think if Charlie was with you- Yes... she wouldn't have been as mean to you? That's right. Dog. Uh, I don't even know. 29:41 There, I don't know if there's any breaking through here. Ah. She hates dogs too. Yeah. Wow. Well- I don't know. She might... if you make any of your bets today, uh, over there, do so with, with caution. 29:51 Uh, let's start with, uh, Major League Baseball. You have a couple plays today as we are officially in the home stretch of the Major League Baseball season. 29:58 Marlins Royals, I guess it has playoff implications for the Marlins, although that's a little tenuous as well. How are you playing this? I'm gonna go first five, under four and a half. And you know what? 30:07 I'm actually gonna go first three, under two and a half too, just because, uh, enough times recently I go under the, the two and a half in the first three, and that loses, but the first five under. 30:16 So I'll probably just go half a unit on each. But I like the pitching matchup. Noah Cameron for the Royals has been red hot. 30:21 His last seven starts, one good one, one bad one, and five where he's basically just been unhittable. And Perez for the Marlins, outstanding stuff. 30:29 I know he can be a little bit inconsistent, a little bit up and down, but, uh, great numbers in terms of his velocity, exit velocity. 30:36 I know the weather's working against me it seems like a little bit with the wind and the temperature, but four and a half, and that's a key number in these first five. 30:43 So often it's three to one or two to two, and that half a run is the winning run. So under four and a half in the first five, and, uh, under two and a half in the first three is a play for me. Both plays for me. 30:52 There you go. Marlins-Royals, we're splitting those bets. Uh, what was the first letter of the adjective and what was the first letter of the noun? Can you share those with us or no? Can't do that. 31:00 [laughs] Gives it away? Okay. F and a B. [laughs] There you go. I asked the question. I, I was basically gonna say it too, and I was like, "Nah, that's gonna be too easy," right? 31:10 [laughs] That second o- that second one in particular was dicey. I'm glad it ended up with a B. All right, one more- Oh, man. [laughs] One more baseball play today. What is it? One letter away, man. Yes. One letter away. 31:19 Yeah. One letter away would've been worse, yes. What do you got else in baseball today? One other play, I think. Uh, I, I like the Orioles here. 31:25 Look, if you're gonna compete and, and get this sixth, uh, spot in the American League, which I keep thinking they're going to, I like them more than Cleveland and Toronto, and maybe I'm just being stubborn 'cause I liked them before the year. 31:36 I just think they have more talent than these other teams. Again, these teams all have flaws and strengths. You gotta take care of business against the Rockies. 31:41 You, you gotta take care of business against a pitcher like, uh, Sagano who's going for Colorado. His advanced numbers are awful, expected ERA, exit velocity, all that stuff. 31:50 Uh, Roger's been up and down, but more good than bad, I, I would say, especially recently. So I'm gonna lay a run, kind of a synthetic here. 31:57 If you, if you don't have the minus one, you could just half a unit on the money line, half a unit on the run line. It comes out to about minus 125, minus 130 or so. 32:06 Always tricky handicapping these games in cores, but I, I think Baltimore gets it done, and hopefully they get it done by a, a couple runs or more. These are games you kind of have to bank here if you're Baltimore. 32:14 Gots to. Gots to win situation for the Orioles if they plan on getting to the post-season. All right, let's go to college football. I sort of ask this standard question. Did you learn anything from week zero? 32:25 Let's start there. It's, it's hard to bet week zero. [laughs] It's hard to bet week one. 32:30 I mean, we could talk ourselves into, "Hey, we know this team," and we, we turn into couch scouts about, you know, this team's returns, offensive line, talent, all that stuff. We haven't seen these teams play. 32:39 These teams don't have pre-season. It's newer pieces, and I think, I think it was Todd Wishnev who says this often in our group chat. 32:44 He goes, "You guys are out of your mind trying to bet this stuff pre-flop," especially- Yes... week zero, when we haven't seen these teams. 32:49 So, um, you know, when it works out it feels great, but when you lose you're like, man, you get that feeling of it's a bad feeling. Is it better? Like, what did I just bet on? What did I just lose on? 32:57 It's one thing to lose, but it's another to lose when you just, you don't have any idea what you, you were betting on, and you just feel like, you know, there's more, it's more guessing than betting. 33:05 So that's, that's kind of usually my takeaway from week zero, week one, and it's kinda, kinda coloring my approach here to week one where less bets is better than more bets. Fewer bets is better than more bets. Yeah. 33:14 Don't, don't force it because you don't want that feeling of, "Man, what, what did I just bet on?" And by the way, like logically, Todd is correct, especially when it comes- Yes... to college football, right? 33:24 With the, with the, the, the just the change from year to year now. So I get it. Doesn't s- Todd is always right. I, I would say Todd is always right about everything. Wow. Mm, mm, mm. Let's not get crazy. 33:35 There's a few things he's not right about. Tennis, politics. There's a whole bunch of stuff. All right, well, let, let me get one college football- Who's here?... bet before the break. 33:43 When Georgia plays Tennessee State- Yeah... you just gotta throw out the records. How are you playing this? 46 and a half is the spread. 33:49 You're gonna hear this st- you're gonna, you're gonna hear this stat all week, and, and you probably already have. Uh, Kirby Smart against teams when he's a big, like 38-plus point favorite. 33:59 He's, like, 0 and 13, 0 and 14 against the spread. This might be the chance to, uh, to break that. Tennessee State last year, Gil and Kelly, lost to Furman, Lindenwood, UT Martin, all by 20-plus points. Ooh. 34:12 Georgia might be able to just r- line up, hand the ball off, and try to run out the clock and win 56, 63-nothing by accident. I'm gonna go against the trend here. I'll lay it with Georgia. Okay. 34:21 We'll do another college football play with, uh, Will on the other side, and then some season, well actually, one season long in the NFL, one week, one play in the National Football League. 34:29 Will Hill, everybody, @NotTheWillHill on Twitter. @NotTheWillHill, pardon me, on Twitter. Uh, Should've Bet More podcast host, and of course VSiN host. We're burying the headline. 34:38 VSiN host as well, with Femi a lot of the time, the great Femi Abegunde, who we love. Mm-hmm. More Will Hill on the other side. It's a numbers game right here at VSiN. 34:46 [upbeat music] A numbers game on VSiN, the sports betting network. 35:01 Don't forget about the Sharp Plays, unmatched transparency with records updated daily, AI betting analysis, real-time global betting info, and alerts directly from the pros. 35:08 You can scan the QR code on your screen for more. Sharpplays.com, check them out. Tweets, beating the book. 35:16 Shrek McPhee, "Is there anything on, is there anything on when, what courts, or is there anything on what courts players get assigned at the US Open? 35:24 Gaia last night was going at it in set number five with some fans in close proximity. I'm sure some of them cannot handle, or if others have better numbers on center court, et cetera." 35:34 Let me just take the first part of that. Is there anything to the, to the assignment of courts? They're always trying to, right, put the star players on the center courts in the first and the second rounds. 35:44 Obviously they're trying to do that. I think they get it wrong a lot, and just put, like, what they think is the, is the lowest hanging fruit. I thought last night they got it right. 35:53 Instead of having, uh, Coco on the main court and Sasha Zverev, I think they put Ayala and Molfese on Arthur Ashe. So I think they got that right. 36:04 They, they, they realized that the main, that the, that the wider fan bases are for those two players. Despite the rankings. Although Coco has something to say. She has a huge fan base herself. 36:14 Should I go over my favorites parlay with you? Sure. For, for, for the audience- Okay... since I asked you off air. Yeah. Hodar? Yes. Paolini? Yes. Townsend? Yes. Lehecka you did not like. Scared- Little scary... 36:27 scares me a little bit 'cause Toby Samuels ITF numbers are through the roof. I don't even know this guy. Toby Samuels. He's not a, yeah, he's not a, not usually on the main tour. And then Carlos Alcaraz? 36:39 Yeah, I think you'll be okay there. Be okay there? Mm-hmm. Mustache icon. In the immortal words of- It's not funny... 36:44 in the immortal words of comedian Mitch Hedberg, quote, "An escalator can never break, it can only become stairs." Maybe you can install escalators [laughs] in your heart true quarry. There you go. 36:54 There's some, uh, business advice. That was a good tweet right there. There you go. Colin Murphy, "Phillies are 22 to one on FanDuel to be the number two seed." Listen to this. 37:01 "Three back of Atlanta with seven left head-to-head. I'm strong on the Dodgers to be the three seed. So if you wanna get nutty, you can parlay Philly as the two seed, the Dodgers as the three seed at 55 to one." Bang. 37:12 God, there's so many great ways to bet this. Mm-hmm. Uh- I like that... Ace the Fireman, "P's and Q's means pints and quarts. It's an old Irish pub saying." They believe that's what it is. 37:23 We don't know for sure, but they believe that's what it is. Mm-hmm. Um, Rhodes Knows, "Were you able to split up the data up for your international games that are week one as opposed to during the season? 37:31 Feels like in-season international games could set up more of an advantage if the team, quote, unquote, 'prepares better.'" There haven't been enough examples of week one international games to do any deep study, right? 37:43 It's still a handful of those. Right. Yeah. Good point, but yeah- Yeah... it, it's, we, we have very little to go off of. 37:48 Uh, Steel City Jarhead, "Hey Gil, I heard talk yesterday that there'll be people going all in with their survivor entries on either Wednesdays or Thursdays games knowing they can buy back in. 37:56 What do you think of that strategy? Makes me feel like the cards are really stacked against those who can afford to play w- only one or two entries." 38:02 Well, the c- the cards are stacked to use your, uh, anal- to use your phrase there. 38:07 Uh, cards are stacked period because there's gonna be groups regardless of the first couple games that are gonna have 100 entries or 150 entries. 38:15 It's just that way now, and we're gonna be over $25 million, and it's the greatest contest in the world, survivor, and this show's been talking about it before anybody, by at least a year. 38:23 Joe Pina goes, "Does anybody remember that you talked about it a year before?" I'm like, "No, nobody remembers." Yeah. I, look, it's, it's an amazing contest. 38:29 We'll play it in every year, but things are, things are changing- Things, things evolved... and it's a fair question. Yes. 38:33 But, but to your point about the strategy, Steve Fezzik's strategy is to not play the first couple games, hope that a big swath of entries loses. He views that then as 38:46 the just, just the edge he needs to get him to play because now there's dead money. Mm-hmm. And he w- he is willing to play survivor, so he has the wait and see strategy on them. 38:58 Now, it would be better, right, because we have a Super Bowl rematch and we have the Rams and the Niners, probably not gonna get a lot of survivor entries [laughs] this year on either of those. I wouldn't imagine. 39:06 Yeah, I would think. This works better in a year. That strategy works better in a year where it's, you know, a big spread. Will Hill, kind enough to join us for a second segment here. 39:15 Uh, Will, do you, do you like the s- the Fezzik strategy of week one? He gets some incoming for that. I don't, I don't mind it. Not this year, but I don't mind in general. 39:22 I think Fezz first off does a fantastic job on Fridays. [laughs] That hour you do with him, the Crack Man hour, that hour- Yeah... 39:29 that, that is right near the top of the, uh, the Veesean power rankings for, for any show we do. 39:32 But yeah, look, I, I think it makes a lot of sense, but, you know, something we've all talked about, I think, o- on these shows privately, publicly, you just hear about these groups getting dozens, if not hundreds, and you're going, "Man, I'm gonna go in with my, uh, my one or my two or my three," and it just, it's tough. 39:48 It's, uh... I don't know if you guys remember the old Jerry Seinfeld joke where he drives by the McDonald's and he goes, "Why do they put 1 billion burgers sold?" He goes, "Okay, I'll have one." 39:56 That, that's kinda how I feel with, uh, you know, the, the survivor entries now. They used to, they used to actually update those McDonald's things when I was a kid. Yeah. Yeah. 40:05 Like I can remember them being like- Over 1 billion sold or whatever, billions... yeah, like 35 million, and then someone would put up 40 million- Oh, man... or 45 million. Yeah. Back in the day. Yeah. 40:12 It's like 1943 it sounded like. I was g- That's how used to do it... I was gonna say I only ever remember- No... over 1 billion sold. So [laughs] They used to update it. I am old enough to remember that. 40:21 Gil's old enough. He was there at 3:13, Will. [laughs] And by the way, Will, Will was so nice when he, when he said, uh, I really like the Fezzik hour. 40:28 I was laughing because Will is partially doing that, if not completely doing that, just to torment Todd Wischnev. Mm. That's all that is. All right, Will- It is... No, I, I, uh... Look, I, I listen every hour. 40:39 Uh, sometimes I don't catch every minute of every show. I never miss a minute of the Fezz segment. That is the truth. Okay. Good. I like it. Thank you, sir. Appreciate it. It's all Fezz. He's great. 40:47 Um, okay, one more college football play. Louisville and Ole Miss. Louisville's a touchdown underdog. You are taking the dog here. Yeah, and I wouldn't say it's all Fezz. You do a great job. 40:58 You're a little mean to him sometimes, but your banter back and forth with Fezz is, uh, it ma- you know, makes it even better. But yeah, since you bring- I like-... 41:03 since you bring it up, before you go, since you bring it up- No, go... that's how I always know pe- I can always tell the people who don't listen, the people on Twitter who are like- Yes... 41:11 "I can't believe you give that guy a platform." I'm like, "Have you ever heard the show before? Ever?" 'Cause if you did- Yeah... you would know that it's not about that. Yeah. So anyway. 41:20 It's more of a sparring, more of a sparring session. It is a sparring, it is a sparring session. Uh, I like Louisville plus the seven. You're gonna hear these stats all week too, but I, th- this is a trend I do like. 41:29 Braum is an underdog. The Louisville coach, uh, just unbelievable, not only covering spreads, but winning games out, right, in 34 and 15, something crazy. 41:38 And, you know, it sounds like he's got a good quarterback, this kid, Lincoln Keeholts, a Ohio State transfer, four star. I mean, I don't wanna sit here and, you know, pretend like I've seen him play a ton. 41:46 I wouldn't know him if he fell on me, but, you know, seems to be highly regarded. They brought an offensive line from the portal, 142 combined starts. They got a good running back. So I, I, a good coach. 41:56 I'm getting seven, um, and, and I think this is a, a situation where Louisville is very alive to win the game. 42:02 I know, uh, Ole Miss, they return a lot of talent from what was a, a, a Final Four semifinalist team with Chambliss and with Lacey, the running back. 42:08 But I think Louisville's pretty live in the game here, and I'll take them plus the points. All right. To the national. Football League Week number one. Let's go. Can't wait. Let's go. Eight days away. 42:18 No, seven days away, pardon me. I am ready for games to begin. All right. Speaking of we're not sure what we know, which is a kind way of saying maybe we know nothing. Arizona Cardinals. 42:29 From the Louisville Cardinals to the Arizona Cardinals, you are grabbing the Cardinals and the points week one, yes? Yeah, I'm pretty sure this will be, uh, th- this will be a mega pod play for me. But- [laughs]... 42:41 10 and a half's a lot, and the Cardinals, I mean, that's, to me, backdoor potential with 10 and a half. I think they're gonna be good on offense. There's a lot of offensive personality. 42:50 If you just back- look back last year, they were 2 and 0. They had a lead with, like, a minute left against the 49ers, dropped the pass that would've sealed the game. After that, they started losing close games. 42:58 They started losing players. They were a disaster by the end of the year. But I think they're a little underrated. 43:03 Now, granted, I bet them under four and a half wins, because that schedule is about the toughest schedule I've ever seen anyone have in the NFL. It's just [laughs] week after week it's 10, 11 win team. It's crazy. 43:12 But I think they're gonna be a sneaky ATS, uh, team here, and 10 and a half is a lot of points in week one. 10 and a half's a lot of points, you know, a- anytime. 43:20 Chargers starting to get beat up here on the offensive line a little bit in camp. Uh, 10 and a half is gonna be a play from here, for, for, for me here on, uh, on Arizona, taking the points. 43:28 I know you're not betting them outright. I know you're just taking the points here. But can we just let our mind drift to an outright Cardinals win here, and the implications of that? 43:36 One, from survivor standpoint, the carnage immediately, 'cause most people, the, the majority, the, the highest picked team will be the Chargers, for sure. 43:44 And also just from a Chargers perspective, because we're all sitting here saying, "Oh, the first two games are super easy- Yeah... and then it's a gauntlet." Can you imagine if they actually lost one of those first two? 43:52 Jacoby Brissett shows up, Justin Herbert. Oh. Yeah, it's gonna be fun. And, and it was a few years ago, I think it was the Bengals we talked about. It was a big talking point all off-season. 44:00 "Well, they got an easy schedule. They start with..." And this was probably two years ago. The Patriots, they start with the Commanders, and they, they, like, lost all the games they were supposed to win. 44:08 So it, uh, you know, it, it's the NFL, man. Yeah, you think it was the Bengals. It feels like it happens with the Bengals every year. This is- Yeah... it's- Yeah. You said let our minds drift there. 44:17 I'm think- I'm over, sitting over here thinking. I'm like, "It's, whether it's not that game, it'll be another game," right? Yeah. I love this season-long bet you're making. 44:25 I've been talking about this in different forms throughout the summer. Please share. Seahawks plus 215 to win the NFC West. I think everyone [laughs] needs a reminder. They won the Super Bowl. Yes. 44:35 This is about the most slept-on Super Bowl champion I can remember. Uh, Denver was the one in 2016, but Ma- Peyton Manning retired. It was Osweiler. It was a different scenario. They bring back most of the team. 44:45 All right, they lost Walker, but I just think this number's too long. And if you look at the Rams, you could poke holes. Stafford's older. Adams is older. 44:53 Puka Nacua is great, but he, you know, might be a crazy person at this po- I mean, who knows what's going on with him? There seems like there's some issues. And look at their schedule. 45:00 You mentioned they start good 49er team, Australia. Uh, uh, Australia. They travel, then they play the Giants. Short week on the road against the Broncos, then they play the Bills and the Eagles. 45:09 That's their first five games. So if you like the Rams, I think the chance to jump on them is in the middle of the season, once this schedule maybe beats them up a little bit. 45:17 Uh, and I know the 49ers, you can't dismiss them. That's still a good team, and they had a home game to win the one seed. But plus 215 to win the NFC West seems a tad disrespectful here, so I'll take that number. 45:26 I do believe the single biggest topic sentence of the NFL off-season is, and this has to do with the Rams love, and I get it with Garrett and Donald at the top of that list, but is the neglect of the Super Bowl champion Seahawks. 45:37 I couldn't agree more. Thank you, Will. Appreciate it. See you guys.
