The numbers told the story, they always do. He's one of those idiots who believe in analytics. This is a numbers game with Gil Alexander on VSIN. Oh, Brett changed it up right there then. You hear that?
0:12
Good Thursday morning to you. Not just any Thursday morning, happy Fourth of July, everybody, from a numbers game. It's Gil Alexander. It's Kelly Midlen.
0:20
Uh, vsin.com, Game Plus, iHeartRadio, YouTube TV, however you're taking us in on this holiday. We are 248 years old. We're symmetrical. 1776, 2024. Symmetrical on the centuries. Uh- You get that?
0:33
24 to that side, 24 to that side. Y- oh, okay. Yeah, yeah, sure. 100, 200, sure. But is it, but is it, uh, is it a guy or a gal? Oh. 2024. No, we're feminine today. Feminine today? It's 2024. Okay, okay.
0:43
Yeah, it's female numbers. Yeah. Uh, ladies and gentlemen, I have now announced my, uh, position on the spectrum to all of you right off the top of the show.
0:49
Some people are like, "What the hell are these guys talking about?" [laughs] The greatest nation there ever was. 248 years old. Um, thank you for joining us this morning.
0:57
Uh, wherever you're taking in the fireworks tonight, um, that should be fun. Let me just say this, uh, Vegas temperatures over the next week, Kelly. Ready for this? No, no, no. My air conditioning's not gonna survive.
1:07
Starting t- It's not... starting today, 112. Tomorrow, 112. Weekend, 113. 116 on Sunday, down from what was previously predicted to be 118. They don't let the planes land at that point. Yeah.
1:21
115 on Monday, 116 again on Tuesday, 115 again on Wednesday, and then it cools off by next Friday to a balmy 109. Oh, my gosh. So we'll enjoy that. That's hot. But we're- Yeah, I mean, I, I... We hit 113 yesterday.
1:36
I was driving around in the middle of the afternoon. It was- Oh, I don't, I don't, I don't go outside anymore. It's like, it, it's, it's literally become that. Yeah. Like, you can't... Like, I have...
1:43
If you could see the inside of my place right now, there are couch cushions up against, like, my sliding glass door to, like, block sunlight. It's literally a ca- there's a cave-like effect going on in my place.
1:53
[laughs] I go, I go outside to come to work. I go outside to go back home, and then, uh, Friday, then I go to California just to drop 45 degrees. Yeah. Maybe leave- So anyway...
2:02
maybe leave me your keys, 'cause, uh- Okay. [laughs] My AC was struggling to make it last night. Oh, mine's working pretty good. I'm like, "Oh, boy, this is, this might be a long weekend." Uh, we do have Crack today.
2:09
Crack is in full effect. Hour number two, Zach Cohen will be here, so Zach and Crack in full effect. Um, first, though, before we get into anything, hot dog eating contest.
2:20
I suppose we should talk about the hot dog eating contest, which is happening, um, I guess l- less than 45 minutes from now. Coney Island, Brooklyn, Nathan's Famous. Oh, yeah, I always forget that. You're right.
2:30
The women, the women start early. Brooklyn. Is this what they're all proud about in Brooklyn? They're like, "Brooklyn." It's all about the hot dog eating contest. I, I don't think so. No? Okay.
2:39
Uh, ladies' side, Miko Sudo, huge. Miki Sudo, prob- uh, pardon me. Miki Sudo, huge favorite. Minus 900, uh, on Miki Sudo. So- On Follow the Money yesterday. Check it out. On Follow the Money. Oh, they had her own.
2:53
Mm-hmm. Good. Well, Miki S- Miki Sudo, um, for those who don't know, little... You want a little background on some of these folks? Miki Sudo, number three ranked eater in the world by Major League Eating.
3:04
They're the ones that run this whole shebang. Men and women? Number three ranked, yes. She's a- Okay... she's number one ranked female. I was gonna say. Number three ranked overall. How about that?
3:16
She's a nine-time women's champ. She's trying, she's going for a 10th in a row here. She's won every year since 2014.
3:21
It's actually not in a row, because in 2021, uh, she was preggers with her son, so she didn't participate that year. Her personal best, 48 and a half hot dogs and buns. Okay. So she, she's...
3:34
You know, that's her personal best. What, what was that? Was that recent? Do you have the year on that? Uh, that I do not have the year on Miki Sudo. Okay.
3:41
I can give you much more detail on the men's side there to about do. [laughs] I can't... Uh- I mean, that is the, the, the men's side is- The, but look, the next best, though, is, is Mayoi Bihara, who's five to one.
3:54
Um, so that- I don't- So Miki Sudo is just a huge favorite on the women's side. I, I feel like she's been a huge favorite for years now. I, I don't know that I...
4:01
Like, when I was typing this up this morning, I don't know if I remember actually someone that clo- like a clear second that close to her in a while. I mean, that's, is that really a clear second?
4:09
I guess it's a clear second, 'cause third place is 40 to one. It's a clear second. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Uh, men's side, I'm actually gonna recommend a couple bets on the men's side. How about that? Oh, [laughs] there we go.
4:17
How about that? There we go, Gil. [laughs] A regular. So the favorite on the men's side, Geoffrey Esper, 49 years old, minus 120 favorite. Very short favorite.
4:27
Uh, I don't know if you know this, Kelly, but he's finished second at this event each of the past three years. We got him at minus 115 up at DraftKings, up to the minute.
4:34
Second in this event each of the past three years, and of course Joey Chestnut is not here to block him, so that's why he's the favorite. His personal best is 51 hot dogs. Last year, though, 49. Keep that in mind.
4:46
Trajectory here, I would imagine, matters. This is my vast hot dog eating contest knowledge. I think if you're on the da- if you're going down, if you're going backwards, it's not a good thing.
4:57
James Webb is 35 years old, 14 years younger. He's a two to one dog. Actually, he's now shortened to plus 165. This is the guy I would bet here. This is just his third time doing the hot dogs.
5:09
His personal best is 47 and a half. Last year is when he did it, when he finished third. So he's 14 years younger. Esper's on the, is coming backwards, coming back towards him.
5:20
I think Webb, who, like, basically just showed up and is knocking out 47 and a half of these, that's probably the play. I have one more play. I like that. I like... That makes sense.
5:29
I'd ra- I'd rather bet on a gu- a guy like that with, that's a little bit more wild card-ish than, you know, someone that's been there ti- year after year after year. I believe he's Australian.
5:37
He, he, just a few weeks ago, just to give you an idea, so these guys don't just do hot dog eating contests. No, it's everything. Yeah. James Webb- They gotta make a paycheck.
5:44
Yeah, just a few weeks ago, he won the Salvation Army National Donut Day by downing 70 glazed donuts in 10 minutes. [laughs] Yeah. Oh, man.
5:54
By the way, I think, uh, our, I think our girl, uh, Miki- The first seven were probably great... Miki did better than that, by the way, so he was just showing up and doing 70 in 10 minutes. Okay.
6:03
Uh, Nick Wehry, age 35, is the, uh, third shot, plus 550. Now, he is engaged to Miki Sudo.
6:10
Which to me, I'm having trouble removing myself from thinking that when they got engaged, they had food chewed up just coming out of their mouths. [laughs] He engaged. He, he asked her to, to get married.
6:22
She said yes, and then they made out with food just sprawled all over their faces. But also, like, what's the past, like, month or two been like in that household? Like, that's just gotta be- It's just disgusting. Yeah.
6:32
Anyway, uh, Nick Wehry. Sorry, can't get that image out of my head. Plus 550 here. He's, he's, they're, they're both from Tampa.
6:38
He's the number four ranked eater in the world by Major League Eating, so right behind his wife overall. Uh, it'll be his seventh appearance in the competition. He's finished fourth at the event the last two seasons.
6:50
His personal best is 48 hot dogs and buns. Now, he's also, in addition to being engaged to Miki Sudo, he's also participated. He holds a couple world records. No, one world record. These are always fun.
7:03
He has a world- You, whatever their specialty's at, yeah. What do we got? Okay, he's got the world record in eating hard-boiled eggs. [laughs] Oh, God. [laughs] That is so gross.
7:12
Ladies and gentlemen, the most disgusting segment- Oh, my God [laughs]... in the history of a numbers game. Wait, wait, okay, that is more disgusting than me drinking a large amount of eggnog. Would you- Uh. No, no?
7:22
Eh, maybe. Oh, I find that- Yeah... I, I find that way grosser. 'Cause you, well, you, well, you could take your time with the eggnog. I can take my time, yeah. Like, you gotta pop egg after egg.
7:29
How much time do you think it took him in his world record to eat 50 hard-boiled eggs? Three minutes. Three minutes and four seconds. Wow. 50. Bro. Can I call you bro? Yeah. All right. Oh. He's also [laughs]
7:44
this is where it gets ridiculous. This is Nick Wehry. This is, again, Miki Sudo's, uh, uh, husband to be, fiance, who, uh, is the third short shot. He's not gonna win this, by the way.
7:55
I would go under on Nick Wehry, by the way. Oh, okay. I would because he, like two years ago, he topped out at 40 dogs. Uh, the year before that he was 44 and a half. I think his number is 44 and a half.
8:06
This sounds like a s- it sounds like you should go under on him. I, I don't know. Like, I, I, I think I'm way overthinking this now, though. Yeah. Like, how does this not...
8:14
Y- there has to be a mental effect when Joey Chestnut's, Chestnut's not in the field anymore.
8:20
It's like when Dominic Thiem and Sascha Zverev played in the US Open final because it was the year where Nadal, Federer, and Djokovic, remember that was the year Djokovic- Yeah...
8:29
hit the ball woman with a, with a ball- Yeah, yeah... with a tennis ball. Yeah. So they disqualified him. It was that year where they, you, these guys have gotta be thinking, "This is our chance."
8:36
The, the, and that, that's what I'm saying.
8:37
Like, I'm not, I'm not, not arguing your bet, but I'm like, I feel like all these guys that have been there before, I, I think we could see higher numbers because you're like, "Okay, good, Tiger Woods isn't here anymore."
8:48
Yeah. "I actually have a chance to win." Do you realize I've sneaky gave out two bets here? It, it's hilarious. Nick- I was not expecting it... uh, James Webb to win this at plus money. He's the second shot.
8:56
And w- and under on Nick Wehry. But here's the thing, in addition to holding the world record for eating 50 hard-boiled eggs in three minutes and four seconds [laughs] which is disgusting. Yeah, give me another one.
9:05
I, I could go through these for like 30 minutes. They're so gross. He is also the Cuban sandwich eating champion. Ooh, that just sounds good. Let me just ask you a question. Like, you can standardize hot dogs.
9:15
You can s- you know, hard-boiled eggs are hard-boiled eggs. When you order Cuban sandwiches, they come in all kinds of varieties. They do. So, like, what do we, what do we do?
9:24
Also, I'm a mayo guy instead of mustard on my, uh, Cuban. Right.
9:26
Like if, yeah, what if I was like, "I'd like to do a, uh, breakfast burrito with tater tots without avocado eating contest," 'cause I think I could do well on that. Like, you can be really specific at this point.
9:35
[laughs] Okay. So he, he's got the, he's got the Cuban sandwich eating record, having [laughs] eaten 22 of them in eight minutes. Oh, man.
9:44
Well, that one's tough to judge 'cause we don't, what, what, what s- what size are we working with here- Oh... on the Cuban sandwich, you know what I mean? That's what I'm saying.
9:50
I guess they have to standardize them somehow. Yeah, they, yeah. And the, and the s- and you c- the problem is, is like you have to have mustard in a Cuban sandwich either, otherwise it's not mustard, right?
10:00
And you have to properly, you know, you've gotta standardize the dollop. Yeah. These, these are complicated issues we're tackling. By the way, mustard, like this is
10:09
like o- one of those things about me that nowhere near mustard. I find mustard so disgusting. All mustards. Like in all forms. All mustards. Yeah, all mustards.
10:17
Don't be the guy who ev- e- I get this guy all the time, "Even honey mustard?" Even Dijon? You're like, "Yes, yes, all mustards." [laughs] It tastes like mustard. It's disgusting. Even Grey Poupon. Um, so there you go.
10:28
Two bets, James Webb on the men's side plus 165 and under on Nick Wehry, sorry. I, I believe Darrien Thomas is the guy.
10:35
I, th- there's, sorry, there's a lot of, there's a lot of pandemic CO, you know, COVID memories we have from gambling, you know? Yeah. And it was, I, I, I believe it was Darrien Thomas.
10:45
Remember they did one of these like Major League Eating events that was all like everybody was at home and they had to like go up against each other? I [laughs] almost- I, uh, blocked that out.
10:54
Yeah, all I- I don't remember it at all. We all, we broke it down hard on Follow the Money while we were i- [laughs]... in the middle of the pandemic. I'm sure you guys did.
10:59
It, all I remember is Mitch and I, Mitch and I making a bet on the, on the under the amount of time that Darrien Thomas would consume baked beans. It was a gallon of baked beans. Oh.
11:10
But like, but the thought was, Gil, Mitch and I are both like, "Wait, what? Like, it's baked beans. Don't you, wouldn't you just kind of like spoon and drink those?" Yeah, what does he do?
11:18
And it was like a long, it was like a couple minutes or something that they were giving. He went way under.
11:23
It was like one of the greatest bets I've ever made 'cause that's what he did, just picked up the tub and started drinking it.
11:27
I think it's appropriate to make the comment right now, you should not follow him home afterwards. Yes. [laughs] Yes. You remember when JVT tried to eat the hot dogs? Oh, yeah. Remember? That's, that's banned.
11:36
Bill Adey famously saying he would rather- No... have an alligator in the studio.
11:39
No, no, no, but there was one outside of the studio where he was legitimately trying to do it the first year of VSIN, and you could see it in his eyes when he crashed. We're coming back, baseball on the other side.

13:29
Everybody's bets can be found there. That is for subscribers. Um, and last night, I put out, uh, my four. Uh, we're trying to split here in the morning.
13:39
Still to come, on the men's side, and I'll get the, uh, the exact prices right now. On the men's side, I am on Lucas Pouille. Lucas Pouille is the French. Let me spell that for you. Lucas, P-O-U-I-L-L-E.
13:56
Lucas Pouille is, I believe, how you pronounce that in French. Yeah. Of course, you know. Uh, I got him- Or, or Poo- Poo- Pouille. No, it's Pouille. Pouille in, uh, American English. [laughs] Pouille.
14:10
Uh, I got him at plus 164 last night against Thanasi Kokkinakis, who of course is Australian [laughs] with a Greek name. Um- [laughs] Pouille, is he still, uh, is he still scheduled? Yes. He's at plus 150- Plus 160...
14:23
plus 152, I'm seeing. Okay, 165 at DraftKings. Um, you could still play him. Oh, plus 165, great. Shop around. So you could still get him almost at the price that I got him. Uh, even better by a penny.
14:33
So Pouille is the first play. I think he's, I think that's a way mispriced match. Um, I think he can take down Kokkinakis. And then, uh, this is a way long shot on the ladies' side. I'm taking a flyer on Elena Vesnina.
14:49
I don't know if that, Ava- Na- Ava- Nai- excuse me, Vesnina. Vesnina. Against Ludmilla Samsonova. Samsonova. Um, Samsonova is ac- you ac- is how you actually pronounce that. But we are fading- Really?... Samsonova, yes.
15:04
I did not know that. Yeah. So it's- Plus 310 on Vesnina over at DraftKings. Okay, and I got her at squ- at a little less than that, plus 280. So yeah. So Pouille and Vesnina, those are your plays.
15:16
Two big dogs coming up at Wimbledon, which is just awesome to have on during the 4th of July. Yes, it is. All day long, baseball all day long as well.
15:24
Speaking of baseball, by the way, uh, before we get to baseball, Sweet Lou Finnicaro has chimed in. Uh, he says, "Bertoletti coming out of retirement plus 750 at DK in the hot dog eating contest."
15:37
He goes, "That's my lean. Those Italians can chow." See, that makes a lot of sense to me. That's a guy who's got, he got tired of getting beat- beaten up by, uh, Joey Chestnut for years, and he sees his window back open.
15:49
That's right. So he's coming out of retirement. It's a good call. I think that makes sense, Lou. Bertoletti plus 750- Bertoletti... is the call from Lou Finnicaro, who also says, "Tell Kelly I put mustard on anything."
15:59
Gross. Little mustard war you guys are having. Yep. Um- Mustard's gross. Mustard's gross, you said? Yeah? Yep. You think so? The d- by the way, just cleaning up.
16:07
So the JVT thing, this was outside of the South Point Studio, like the first year of VSiN.
16:12
JVT was, I think it was hot dogs, where he was trying to eat as many hot dogs as he could in a certain amount of time, and literally, like, you could see it in his eyes when he got to...
16:21
He, he could correct me on this, but it wa- it was still single digits. I thought it was like five or something. Uh, maybe it was more than that, but it was still single digits, and I, you could see it.
16:29
You're like, "Uh, he's done." You, how much c- how much could you do? [laughs] Wait, so what was the, what was the store? Was it him and Greg that were doing one, though? That, I think that was an- In studio?...
16:38
in studio thing where then it got banned. That's what, building, yeah, building like that, yeah. Yeah, yeah. Can't do that stuff on camera. Can't have a reversal in studio. No, no, can't do that. [laughs] A reversal.
16:45
Is that what they call it, right? A reversal. Reversal, I love that. [laughs] We've had a reversal. Um- How many could I eat in 10 minutes? How many? In 10 minutes? You, Kelly Bidlin.
16:55
I, I could down three in 10 minutes, I think. Oh, dude, come on, of course you could down three. I don't, like, it's, but I'm not doing, like- If I set it at seven and a half- I'm not du-... would you go over that?
17:03
I'm not dunking buns in water and stuff, you know what I mean? Like, I'm gonna get a hot dog. Seven and a half, over or under? Uh, there's no way I could eat eight hot dogs in 10 minutes. Yeah, I'd go under on that.
17:11
I could get to eight, if you gave me, if I was s- if I was starving, and I had an hour, I think I could do eight. Okay. Wow. Not, not 10 minutes, though. No, that's gross. Yeah.
17:22
All right, uh, Mark Borchardt and I did a, uh, Q2 baseball pod yesterday, Beating the Book: MLB Derivatives. We do it every quarter, after 40 games, after 80 games, after 120, and we have done this for over a decade.
17:36
So if you do the math, I think we've done about 40 of these in our lifetime. Wow. And we love it. It's just, we nerd out on baseball stats.
17:43
We do, we do, you know, the standard one that we'll show just on the screen, obviously. We do best ROI teams, uh, in Major League Baseball.
17:50
These are your, uh, these, you know, bizarro exercise if you bet each team every single game, whether they're a favorite or a dog. You know, you bet $100 if they're a dog, you bet 100 if they're a favorite.
18:02
That's the thing with the favorite, some people calculate differently. Bet 100 or bet to win 100. That's why you have some variance or some difference with, with some charts on this.
18:09
But the Guardians, the most profitable team by a good margin if you, you know, in this bizarro exercise.
18:16
And the point of the whole podcast is not to just, "Hey, look at all these stats," it's to try to determine what is predictive, what is sustainable, what is unsustainable.
18:25
And probably the s- you know, the single biggest thing we un- you know, we... It's not that we uncovered it, but we sort of realized going through these. 'Cause we go through...
18:37
I, I recommend everybody who's a baseball hardo to listen to the podcast because we go through umpire stats, who are the most reliable over, um, uh, over and under umpires in Major League Baseball when they're behind home plate calling balls and strikes.
18:49
And it's not just a this year thing. Mark has historical data, so we don't just rely on the 80 game sample size, we see if they match with his historical data.
18:57
So we uncovered one very reliable over umpire, one very reliable under umpire, which they're doing their thing this year, basically. That's great. Yeah. 'Cause yeah, if you could tra- if you could see some guy's- Oh...
19:07
been doing that for, you know, over the course of four years, then yeah. Yeah. It's something you, it's something you could start to pay attention to, for sure.
19:13
Yeah, the, the over umpire probably has a, you know, a strike zone the size of a thimble- [laughs]... and the under umpire has, you know, vast strike zone. Right. [laughs] Yeah. Um, so there's that.
19:21
We also do first innings, which you won't find anywhere else. Those are proprietary. We talk about the pitchers that are the best and the worst in first innings, 'cause people like to bet first innings. Mm-hmm.
19:32
Uh, the Yourfees and the Nerfees they call it now. Mm-hmm. Um, the kids, so cute. They're adorable with their names. Um, and then, um, biggest thing we found though, 'cause we do first fives, right?
19:42
And by the way, vsin.com, can I just shout out vsin.com? Whenever we do the vsin.com promo, we're talking about betting splits, and betting by state, and all these articles.
19:51
It has great, robust baseball stats now, right? So it, uh, there's a bit of an umpire tracker there as well, not historically, but this year.
20:00
Uh, and we do, and on vsin.com, there's best first five and worst first five teams. Same thing for the full game, but also, you know, what's their record, win, loss, and draw first five.
20:11
And so this year, you will see as we put it up at vsin.com here, uh, Phillies are number one. Makes sense, by a mile, because they have, think about their top three in their starting rotation, Wheeler, Nola, and Suarez.
20:23
So it makes sense why they are literally, if you bet the Phillies every single game this year, first five, whether favorite or dog, you'd be up 20 units just doing that. 20 plus units. It's wild. Yeah.
20:34
The next closest is the Guardians, who are n- just over nine units up. But the outlier there, as you can see, is in the number four position. 'Cause it's Phillies, Guardians, Orioles.
20:42
The Yankees are in fifth, and looky here. Look who's in fourth. That's crazy. The Chicago White Sox. [laughs] The Chicago White Sox are... So just think about this.
20:52
I'm actually impressed with just their overall first five record. Well, that's, that's the point. Right. Yeah. So this is the point of why we do this thing. So- And then obviously they're a dog a lot.
21:01
Well, and they're a dog a lot. So this is the point. In real life, right, and obvious in the, in the real life Major League Baseball standings, even though the White Sox...
21:09
By the way, the White Sox are the Guardian's kryptonite. They beat them again last night, crushed them. It's incredible how the White Sox have the Guardian's number.
21:17
But the White Sox in real life, even with that win last night, 25 and 63. I mean, they have a minus 157 run differential, and that's after winning by six last night.
21:27
[laughs] They're horrible at baseball, but- That's, that's incredible... but first five, they are 35 and 41. Excuse me, 35, 41, and 11. And as Kelly said, they're always a dog, right? Maybe every time.
21:42
So 35, 41, and 11, you'd be up six and a half units betting them first five. Now, here's the even bigger thing we talked about. God, that bullpen just has to be awful.
21:51
There are, the bull- that's the, that's the- Awful... that's the takeaway, right? Their bullpen sucks and everybody knows it sucks. They're a near 500 team in the first five innings. But here's the point, Kelly.
22:00
There are some sports books that offer double results, like- Oh... soccer, right? For who's gonna win at halftime- Yeah, yeah... who's gonna win full game. Baseball has the equivalent at some sportboo- sports books.
22:11
Who's gonna win at, who's gonna be leading after first five? Who's gonna be leading after the game? The White Sox have hit the double result of leading after five- Leading and losing... and losing- [laughs]...
22:22
16 different times this year. That's awesome. The average price on those 16 is, like, seven to one. Yeah, yeah. Sure.
22:30
So if you just hit all of those, right, if you bet that blindly, you'd be up the s- the 16 that you hit would be up over 100 units, and then you'd lose all the others. You wouldn't even care 'cause you'd be so far up.
22:41
Yeah. Is that sustainable? It kind of sounds like it is. That was a big takeaway from that. Zach Cohen on the other side. Tennis next. A numbers game on VSiN, the sports betting network.

23:13
Don't sleep on the deep dive baseball. Check it out. We call it brand new? Eh, I don't know about brand new. We'll call it new. Yeah? Is that okay? New? Ish, yeah. Ish. Not superstitious. Ish.
23:25
Not superstitious, just stitious. [laughs] Or ridiculous. A little stitious. Oh, we get tweets at Betting the Book. Sam Ginsburg, "Yes, some people are lucky. I'm a financial advisor.
23:35
A client was selling stocks on a Friday to buy a boat. He got a call and didn't call me back until after 4:00 PM, too late to trade. Company got bought over the weekend and stock was 40% higher on Monday." Unbelievable.
23:46
That's exactly right. Invictus, "I'm a big ketchup only guy on hot dogs, but also fine with cheese and bacon.
23:51
I don't do mayo, but I've seen carts outside the bars in Nashville and San Diego that put a little on the bun before toasting it. The lettuce is uncouth." Uncouth. Uncouth.
24:00
How often do you see bacon as a, as a topping offered for your hot dog? Never. Never. Yeah. That, that, that's... I mean, I'm sure it's great. Bacon's, you know, you could put that on anything and it'd be good
24:11
Uncouth, lacking good manners, Kelly. Steve the Proxy, "Miki Sudo proving she's one of the best athletes [laughs] ever by bouncing back after pregnancy and hit- hitting a personal hot dog record.
24:23
Even the great Serena Williams [laughs] couldn't come back from motherhood. 10 mustard belts, Gil, two times as many titles as Iga." [laughs] That's great. Love it. You got me thinking about this a little bit, okay?
24:35
I'm not, I'm not gonna take the pro athlete side of this. Uh. But the... Are you telling me the athletic drop-off from, like, football linebacker to golfer
24:46
is, is not, is not as big as the drop-off from golfer to hot dog eater? All right, well, you've moved the goalposts on this by putting golfers in this. Well, okay, so do you consider golfers athletes?
24:57
I guess that's the question. That's the question. Are we, are we really gonna have this conversation? [laughs] Is that what we had? Welcome to Sports Talk Radio. [laughs] You're in my head now. Does athlete think? Uh,
25:10
I, I... Listen, do you c- I mean, do you consider a pitcher in, if you wanna get the... Is a pitcher in baseball- Yeah. No, that's a good one too A punter... an athlete? Punter.
25:19
Or are they, or do they have a great skill? I think it's all s- I, I would, I would lean more towards it's all great skill. This is, uh, the definition of athlete, Kelly.
25:30
A person who is proficient in sports and other forms of physical exercise. All right? Well, take out that last part, and then they're all athletes. [laughs] So then pitchers are athletes. They're all proficient.
25:40
Gol- golfers I guess are athletes too. I think so. And I don't know if eaters are. Okay. But some people say, "Yeah, it's physical." Eh, that's the end of that conversation. Hmm. I don't think it's...
25:52
I, your, to your point- I don't care enough to argue about it- Yeah... certainly. [laughs] All right. I mean, if you- I mean, we started JVT on it a couple weeks ago. He was ready to go off...
26:00
obviously, uh, the, the tweet was being sarcastic, but it's like, are you telling me that, like, you would hold Miki Sudo in the same regard you would hold Willie Mays in? [laughs] Like, I mean, what are you- No.
26:09
[laughs] Pick any NBA player? Yeah. You have a story, sir. Oh, got a couple stories. Yeah. Uh, uh, first of all, I, I know this has happened to a, a lot of people. I wonder if it's happened to either one of you guys.
26:22
Do you ever go away with another couple, do you ever go away with, like, friends that you, that you've had for a lifetime, and you go away, and now you come back hating them?
26:29
These people- Uh, I was, I was gonna say- [laughs]... usually it's a nightmare. Yeah, it's like, you know, they, like, you have to be on their schedule for things. You have to w- It's terrible... it's very, very...
26:36
It's, it's so hard to do. Not in the last 20, 25 years. Yeah. No, that's- No...
26:41
so, uh, uh, I, I just say it because, uh, uh, one buddy of mine was here with his wife and, uh, his kid, and he got two separate rooms there, and then they came with their neighbors who they've had lived next door to for about eight years.
26:53
He said it was a disaster. They learnt more about each other, and then they just, they, they, like, they went back, like, not even talking to each other. It was that bad. And I, I've s- I could see it happening, though.
27:03
You know, you have to be... If someone wants to go to a show, one wants to go to, you know- I just-...
27:07
the dam, one wants to go to, you know, whatever, whatever tourist things you wanna go to, and the other one doesn't wanna go. You know, it's, it's like, remember Vegas vacation? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Let's have our own day.
27:16
Right. Yes. And then they say, "We'll all do our own thing. I'll see you guys later." But when, when you're on vacation- Right... you shouldn't have to make concessions to other people of what you're gonna do.
27:25
It's your vacation. I knew you could properly word it. I'm very passionate about this- Yes... actually. Yeah. It is. I've had very upsetting vacations- There-... with this, with this stuff. Yeah.
27:32
The time in my life when I was subjected to these, and I do mean subjected to these...
27:38
And again, now get back to the fact that we, uh, we all share, the three of us and, and everybody listening, we share a certain DNA that most people don't share, right?
27:46
So the whole time you're subjected to these vacations... By the way, they're super nice people on their own, right? Yes.
27:51
If you went over to their house for a meal or for three hours or went to a movie with them, fine, then you go home. But if you're on a, in a captive vacation somewhere- Right, yes... right? Captive.
28:02
That's, that's [laughs] yes. Like, let's just say T- That's the key... let's just say any, like, Wimbledon is on today, right? Sure. I have bets. Sure. Hot dog eating, baseball, right? Perfect. Everything. Perfect.
28:11
The entire time while they're like, "Oh, let's go here, and let's go here"- Right... I'm like, I'm check- I, I gotta check a score. Yeah. Like, that's all I'm thinking. Yeah. That's, that's just who I am. Yeah.
28:20
And so I hated them. Yeah. Hated them. Yeah. And that's, it's, it's- And it's, it's something I was willing to do when I was younger 'cause I had the capacity to compromise.
28:29
I no longer in my older age have the capacity to compromise. Yeah, I, yes. Yeah, yeah. I think once you've done it a couple times- Yeah. Yeah, yeah... you just get burnt out and exhausted from it. You'll never do it.
28:37
For those of you who couldn't, uh, see us, we're gonna put up the, that, uh, the picture, the photo I had of, uh... My friend was here for a little over five weeks. He stayed at, like, nine different hotels.
28:49
You could see there, um, on the counter all the stuff that he had. Bottles of water, bottles of soda, Perrier. He's like, "Will you..." He's like, "You gotta take all this."
29:00
I was like, "Well, I, I, I, I can, yeah, I'll, I'll take it. I'll give this away." I, 'cause I, 'cause I like giving away the shampoos and stuff to the homeless shelter. There's always a place in town.
29:07
I can't believe how much stuff he acquired. He had to, like, rob the maid carts. I mean, he had so much stuff. So now it made me think of something. This guy takes everything when he goes away. Everything.
29:19
He takes everything. So I remember, I forgot, I've known him for 30 years, almost 30 years. I remember in Atlantic City when we were younger, if he loses, he gets so mad- [laughs]...
29:30
he will actually, like, he, he'd like, out of his backpack he pulled out a chisel. I was like, "What the, what are you..." He takes the art off the wall when you can't... Like, he'll take something off the wall. What?
29:40
[laughs] Oh my God. [laughs] Oh, no, no. Oh, this guy's nuts. He, like, he goes, "As long as this- What?... if it doesn't leave a mark, it's going. The, the maids never see it."
29:47
I said, "You, how are you gonna get this piece of art out of here?" It was, like, nailed to the wall, right? What are you doing? Yeah. Hence the chisel. [laughs] This guy, that... I'm not joking.
29:54
I'm not, I'm not saying it to be funny. This- He- He knows who he is. That's a skill. And I, I will say this- That's-... it's one of those things that's so out of bounds, right?
30:02
To, to carry a large piece of art out, that no one's g- like, there is this- No one would question... no one would question. [laughs] He's like, "How is this guy... This guy must have a reason. He must be a worker."...
30:11
that we've employed to move art [laughs] Yo, that, that is one of those if you just walk with a confident look on your face- Yeah. That's right... nobody's stopping you. Nobody's stopping you. Oh, no.
30:18
If you, if you're as if, if you act as if in anything in life, you could just get away. You know what I mean? That's wild. Just, like, imagine Kelly, like I didn't know Kelly had a Van Gogh. Yeah.
30:27
Just walking out of there. Yeah, yeah. Just walking. Sorry. Yeah. Doing my job.
30:30
Um, you know, but I remember I said, "Well, listen, if this, if you can do this cleanly," uh, the, our old hangout, the Hard Rock- Oh, yeah... has a great picture of...
30:39
I'm a big Doors fan, The Doors hanging out at the Hard Rock in LA. It's on the wall there. If you could get that off for me, uh- We, uh, we- [laughs] I just want to disclaimer we don't condone this behavior.
30:48
No, we don't. Just telling a story. No, it's just- Yeah... but I'm not joking, though. He takes, he has taken, more than one time, has taken artwork off walls. He goes from, he, he gets mad, he just takes everything.
30:58
I mean- Well, okay, so I need to dive into this- The entitlement... so this is, so this is, we're talking most of these, I mean, most of these paintings and stuff are, like, nailed to the wall or something, right?
31:07
So he's taking some tool- Yeah... and wedging it, wedging it off the nails. Wedging it. Yeah, yeah, he, he knows what he's doing. But, but not enough to leave a mark.
31:15
Can't, the whole thing is leaving the mark because- Yeah... I know one time he got caught. [laughs] He got caught. You think? Yeah. [laughs] There's just, like, marks on the wall from him digging in a tool.
31:24
But I think how many times the maids look up and, and look at the wall and say, you know, like so, yeah, he just likes something, it's gone.
31:29
But the, but the Hard Rock where we, you and I first met when we used to hang out, the Har- the Hard Rock was filled with- Oh... rock and roll memorabilia everywhere. In the rooms, in the- Yes...
31:37
in the, not just the hallways and stuff. In the rooms, that's right. Like, like Planet Hollywood, too. There's always something memorabilia-wise in there, so.
31:43
And by, and by, by memorabilia, you were equally, uh, liable to have a great piece of art on the wall or, like, find a syringe in between the couches. [laughs] So, like, it was just- That's, that's- It was 50/50.
31:54
[laughs] Uh, so there was that, but, uh, remember the Hard Rock got to the point where it was, like, in its later days, it w- they, they didn't, they couldn't figure out what their brand was anymore, so during the week it was a hard r- you know, classic rock place, but on the weekends it just went straight hip hop at the end.
32:10
Right. So it was like this really weird [laughs] Oh... really weird thing happening. Now, speaking of which, Gil, I have to ask you. Yes, sir. Being in, in, uh, where you, where you grew up- Yes...
32:19
you used to drive to Atlantic City sometimes, right? Once in a- Oh, once in a blue- Once in a blue moon... okay. Yeah. Uh, 'cause that reminds me also going home broke in the '80s. Oh, dude. The tolls. The worst.
32:28
Just hit, you hit the just... 'Cause there was no cameras back then. You just hit the toll like you paid it, and it rings, and you wave, and you honk. Oh, no, you honk.
32:35
If the- You- Just honk the horn if the m- change hit the ground or something, so. I was at the age where me and my buddies- Yeah... we weren't smart enough to still have money at the end of the trip.
32:44
[laughs] And so we would drive. The gas. There'd be two- You know a car is running out of gas, here, so [laughs]... two people, two people in the back just passed out, two people in front of the, uh- Yeah...
32:52
"Just get me a bacon, egg, and cheese." Like, we'd stop at the McDonald's. I remember our buddy Juan was like, "Bacon, egg, and cheese." Right.
32:56
And we, like, ask, see if we have enough money, and the tolls, we would always do that. Tolls, never pay. That's, I mean- Yeah, you'd act like you'd throw it, and you just keep driving. The, the, there wa- Like, hey.
33:05
You act like it. Yeah. There, there was no gate or anything like that. Yeah.
33:08
Uh, but certain ones, I mean, the, the GW and the Holland Tunnel, but, uh, yeah, just something that I remember just- Those were always such back and-... coming home broke... those were all such depressing trips to AC.
33:18
On the way home. On, but on the way there, you're listening to Sinatra, Tony Bennett- Yeah... all the good life and everything. Yeah. Everything's great. Yeah, but- On the way home, it's... Yeah...
33:25
yeah, but if you strayed 20 s- 20 steps in the wrong direction outside of the place, too, it was like an adventure. Oh. [laughs] We'll talk about that when we get back.
33:32

34:40
Paul Medina, "Gil, you're a Bay Area guy. Haven't you had a Mexican hot dog after Sharks games wrapped in bacon?" Um, here's the thing.
34:48
Uh, I probably was in San Jose, Paul, um, less than I was in the Middle East in my time in the Bay Area. That's how little, that's how few times I would actually venture to San Jose from, from the city.
35:00
The city- Oh, I-... is what we call San Francisco... [laughs] I bet. Like [laughs] Yeah. Like, I feel like that's one of those if you li- like grew up and lived around there, yes, you've probably been- Yeah...
35:08
everywhere around that area, but yeah, I- Just never got down to San Ho. If I move to San Francisco, I can't imagine it. San Ho. San Ho. Tom Collins, "Another great appearance by the Crack Man. Trust the glove." My man.
35:20
Trust the glove. "Loss of capacity to compromise can also be attributed to years of experience dealing with humans. I laughed out loud at that line, LOL." Yeah, man, that's a good point, too. Just, just living.
35:31
Chris Davis, "I do workers' comp. One guy's job history included casino maintenance, quote," what did that entail? He said, "Mostly fixing stuff angry people who lost would break." Oh, see? There you go. Wow.
35:43
Well, yeah, the, I mean, ba- back in, when we were at the South Point, I mean, I'm sure it's still the case, but the, i- in the basement there, it would just be lined with- Oh, it-...
35:52
tables and chairs upon- That's true... hundreds- Really?... and hundreds just lined up down there. Wow. Yeah. Whether they're, whether they were broken or about to be replacing others- Right, yeah... or whatever.
36:02
Like, it was, like, massive staging areas for the- That'll happen more at a locals' casino than it will a tourist one on the strip because that's more of a grind joint, and locals, they get upset, they're losing their checks.
36:12
W- where people come in town, and they don't really act like that all the time when they're- No... traveling... yeah, because the VSiN, the VSiN office was in the basement, so Kelly, you're right about that.
36:19
But now keep in mind, the South Point also a place- That no one would blink that, like, they'd have an archery convention, and people would be walking through there- It's unbelievable... with full bows and arrows.
36:29
They just had it. They just had it. Like, they could do all kinds of damage to other humans- It's unbelievable... and no one blinks. It's unbelievable. Not e- not even that, Gil.
36:34
Like, what, what are you talking, like, 13-year-olds? Like, what's the worst- Yes... age that you'd want someone carrying- Yeah... a, [laughs] carrying a weapon recklessly throwing around? It's unbelievable.
36:43
It's- Yeah, and it occurs to me when I say bow and arrow, the image in most people's minds is like, "Oh, when I went to camp, I had a bow and arrow." No. No. It's like, no, no, no, no. Professional archery.
36:50
These are- These are- Oh... massive things. Forget it. Yeah. So I've just seen that. I couldn't b- it's funny you guys mention that. Uh, one other tweet there, um, Buddhist, man. We love Buddhists.
36:59
"There's no better hotdog on Earth than a New York City dirty water sabrett with the extra onions and the orange sauce." Oh. Do you know what the orange sauce is? Ooh, I do not. I do not. No. He's absolutely right.
37:08
I forgot about that orangey sauce. I think Sabrett makes it now. It's in the stores, but you're, you're right about that.
37:15
I don't really trust a lot of those d- dirty water dog places, and even if they're clean water, but, uh, it's amazing all the ones on YouTube, there's reviews of the hotdog carts in New York City.
37:24
I'm sure you'll find one, but he's right about that. Uh, guys, I have a great question. Or n- not that it's off-subject, it's actually a sports question, 'cause we can go anywhere here.
37:33
This is gonna be a very sensitive subject again, and I don't know the answer, and I should. What are the rules with these sports books that are new?
37:42
Because I had a lot of sports books reach out to me, these head-to-head, peer-to-peer sports books this p- this past week. A couple of them are open to most of the states legally, and, uh, what's the rules with...
37:52
Do they have to put up a bond with, like, $2 million in case they don't pay, they're not solvent? Like, what, what's the rules for even a sports book here? Let's say they had this standalone sports book in Las Vegas.
38:03
Um, okay, th- there, there is one. Let's, there's one at the Hard Rock which is a virgin now. Uh, can't think, Beth Fred. Oh, yeah. Uh-huh. So, now they're a big corporation, I know, but- Yeah...
38:10
what's the r- let's say they're not a big corporation- Okay... and Nevada legalizes them. What's the rule for if they close the doors like Gary Austin did here in town? Gary Austin, you guys can Google this.
38:23
Gary Austin had a sports book in town, and, uh, he, he, uh, literally closed up shop and escaped with the money, uh, under the cover of darkness.
38:31
So you're, you're asking, uh, s- Well, the, what, the customers are, are... Who looks after the customers? How do they get their money? I have a ticket that I won 100 bucks. Where do I go now? The doors are closed.
38:40
You mean like when I went to The Mirage two weeks ago and didn't cash the ticket there- No, no... and walked away with it? [laughs] I mean, I mean when the place goes out of business and, uh, if something has happens.
38:49
Yeah, I know it's a, it's a sensitive subject. Well- What if these, these, these new companies- We-... that are coming to the States and they, they don't have the money.
38:56
They, they took the, they did a full tilt, and they weren't bailed out by, by, by- I was, I was just gonna say, so the- Yeah... offshore, this happened to lots of folks, right? Yeah. With both- Oh, yeah...
39:05
with both offshore sports books- Correct... and offshore poker sites. Oh, yeah. Um, but specifically, like we know the names of the offshore folks who are- Yeah...
39:12
well, they're, well, surely World Sports Exchange is gonna pay everybody off. World Sports Exchange. Right? Right? Aces Gold. There's so many companies that went under.
39:19
But what you're asking, is a reg- would a regulated shop- Yeah... be able to do the same thing? I'm guessing not. Isn't... Uh, uh, but is there- But I'm just- Is there monies put up? But I, but I'm just guessing.
39:28
We gotta get to, get to someone in gaming. I mean, I, I bet y- I have no idea, but it's probably one of those that probably ends up ugly in court, and you- Listen-... you probably still just like offshore. Gary Austin.
39:37
You probably don't want to hold the tickets. Gary Austin left. No. Went to Costa Rica, uh, was part of a big book called Tradewinds there.
39:43
Came back to the States recently, and, and, uh, I guess he was back in the States in Florida, and they, they took like 10 million off him in Florida. They busted him.
39:51
So y- but he, Gary Austin had a sports book here in town around the strip, and, uh, I just wondered, like, what happens?
39:57
Well, it, there's, there's regulated and unregulated, and then there's public company and non-public company. Yes. That would have something to do- Yes... with it too, I would imagine- Yes... as well.
40:06
Uh, another subject. Yes. It involves Gil. Uh-oh. So Gil put up a tweet last week. I retweeted it. Hello. And Gil had already 50,000 views on it when it came to me, and it wind up now getting about 80,000 views.
40:16
It was about, uh, the Caesars, what happened there. The NBA draft. The NBA draft. Yep.
40:20
I put up a tweet the next day with Caesars charging mi- minus $1.20 on both sides on NFL lookaheads, which unbelievably, 95%, I can't believe it's not 100%, 95% were, "Oh, my God, this is terrible.
40:34
How does Caesars do this?" It was always, it was always $1.10. But there was a percentage there that came after me- Really?... and said, "Well, you're lucky they even offer that.
40:42
I mean, that, that, that's, that's the reason why. It's a future, and, you know, you don't, no one offers that." They don't know. There's so many people do not know the space. Yeah.
40:50
They s- I, I, I had to say to them, "Listen, uh, Westgate, s- uh, FanDuel, FanDuel, DraftKings, they all have minus $1.10 on these. What are you talking about? There's, there's, there's literally eight more."
40:59
And, uh, the, it shocked me the amount of people. Wow. And then guys challenged me. You know, when these kids, they, uh, challenge you. "Well, you're g- you're betting ahead of time like that?
41:08
I'd love to challenge you to a bet." Like, they don't even realize that, uh, listen, if I'm betting ahead of time, you can guarantee by kickoff 90% [laughs] I'm gonna have the best of the line. You know what I mean?
41:18
So, but there are people like, "You can't bet now. There's injuries and stuff. How do you know?" Well, that could happen. It could happen against me, absolutely. Yeah.
41:24
But, but, but however, I'm gonna have an edge on most of those tickets. But it just shocked me the amount of people that actually,
41:33
you know, think that, that, that- But, but this- Then again, they're underground and they're the- But this is part of the whole gig, right?
41:39
The reason that, you know, it, part of the, part of the gig is you're gonna have a, you know, this is, there's many parts of this, but one of them is you're gonna have a whole new generation coming up- Yeah...
41:49
that is going to be, and I mean this in the most literal way- Yeah... it's gonna be ignorant to the ways that it's done properly, mathematically. Yeah.
41:56
And they're going to be, um, they're, they're abetting the crime unknowingly. Yes. Right? That's the words. They're abetting the crime unknowingly, and that's built into the whole racket, if you will. Yeah. Yeah.
42:10
And so, and, and by the way, I still get back to that thing, for those who missed it, the NBA draft where they, they changed the number from 50 to 1 to 25 to 1 on me at Caesars without taking a bet. Right at the counter.
42:19
Right at the counter. Yeah. Right in my face. I, I get it, it happens on apps, but they do it now in the face unabashedly. Yeah. Then they, they tell you all kinds of- They, they scramble.
42:28
Now it was only in just Caesars, but MGM and Caesars, they scramble for all kinds of rationale as to why what happened happened. In MGM's case, it was just a limiting on the app.
42:36
Uh, none of it holds water in the end, and they can get away with it because the way that the regulatory body is, at least now, and this is part of BetBash that I'm e- that I'm excited about.
42:48
Spanky was kind enough to ask me to moderate a panel about limiting bettors at BetBash. Billy Walters is gonna be on the panel, so I'm super pumped.
42:57
But there's gonna be actual, we hope, regulators on that panel as well, because, like, there's gotta be some way to, to even this playing field somewhat. In other words, like, you cannot be predatory on certain things.
43:14
Like, there has to be some tacit agreement that at least the bettor can count on X, Y, or Z. Right. Right. Yeah. No, it's true. It's true. So we'll see. I, I appreciate that Spanky would ask me to do that- Yeah...
43:25
so I look forward to it at BetBash. Yeah. Last thing I'll get to. Yes. Atlantic City still a mess. [laughs] I, I said this on my podcast.
43:31
I'll challenge anyone to pull into Atlantic City, come off the ex- expressway, make a left right down on, uh, Atlantic Avenue. Go, go down to the end, turn around, come back on Pacific Avenue. Look what's going on.
43:43
Look what's going on. Right now at 11:54 AM, [laughs] oh, my God. Like, there's guys that charge money at, like, the, the Popeyes to open a door for you just to walk in.
43:52
It's really bad, but I, I, I talked about this 'cause my buddy was saying how bad Atlantic City has became. And, uh, I, I said, "Listen, I talk about this on, on, on your show, uh, uh, when I come on."
44:02
And he's like, "No, it's so bad." He said, "Yesterday I was in Atlantic City, and there was a police car going down Pacific Avenue, lights flashing, sirens on. Not one car would mo- move out of his way."
44:11
The city has become numb to it. They don't care. It's like Kensington. It's like these people are like zombies. It's just bad. Anyway, all right, guys, I'll see you guys next week. Thanks for having me on.
44:19
Well, there's no artful way to segue to this, but happy Fourth of July, everybody. From all of us at The Numbers Game, we've done all we can do. GoJoe and Golinka are next. Enjoy, from Visa, the Sports Betting Network.
