With a one-game lead headed into it, again, if the Guardians win one of the three games, that was the, the, uh, the situation heading into this series. If they win one game, the Guardians will have the tiebreaker.

it's on their racket still, right? They have every- they control their own destiny, as bad as it looks. And by the way, for the Tigers, it's not just even about the division now, right? The Tigers have to be- Mm-hmm...

wary of the wild card situation, and the wild card situation is, you know, treacherous as well right now because if you go to the, uh, the wild card standings in the American League, right now you have Detroit occupying, first of all, Boston with their win over Toronto occupies the second wild card position.

They're one game ahead of, pardon me, the third and f- the third wild card in the final playoff spot.

Tigers now currently at this moment, 'cause they don't have the tiebreaker with Cleveland, they have a one-game lead over Houston. But you should note that the Tigers have the tiebreaker over Houston. Pardon me.

It, it's also wild, Gil, that like, y- I feel like so much of the focus of this conversation with the Guardians, right, has been catching the Tigers in the division, but it's, "Hey, Astros, see ya," on, outside looking in now.

Well, after that sweep at the hands of the Mariners last week, it has, it has not gotten any better for the, uh, Astros.

So the Astros, again, one game out, but not even with the tiebreaker, so essentially they're two games out as currently constituted.

The other things, of course, that went down yesterday in the American League, Toronto loses, as I mentioned, to the Red Sox, and the Yankees beat the Rockies. There we go, Yanks.

And the Yankees now are only one game behind the Blue Jays. The Blue Jays have the tiebreaker, but remember, the Yankees get two more against the White Sox. Did you see the end of this Yankees game yesterday?

I did not when you were live texting me about it, but I saw it this morning. So I w- I was watching in the sports book, so I don't have the audio of that game. Yeah.

And, and so I'm always wondering, did the announcer say anything? And I'm told by everybody the announcer said nothing.

The final sequence of this game is, first of all, it's 2-1 White Sox in the bottom of the ninth, and the Yankees tie the game on a wild pitch.

And when I say wild, I mean the pitch w- would've gone into the stands were there not netting.

Um, that was a, uh, that was a Cody Bellinger at bat, which might be considered now the most important at bat in this Yankee season, because if that catapults them to the division win, that was it.

But what happened next, I, I, I don't, I, I can't even understand what I was watching yesterday. So that game, it's 2-2 now, right? 2-2. You have runners at first and second at this point.

And I want to get the, uh, the exact sequence, but it was Michael Taylor, Michael A. Taylor, who's been a major leaguer for so many years, Washington Nationals and, like, five other teams. I might even have that low.

But it's a first and second situation, and it is a bloop, it's a, a bloop. I mean, not really a bloop.

It, it was long enough the, the, uh, José Caballero has a shot to center field long enough that Taylor could have made a play on it, right? He's charging the ball. Mm-hmm. He catches it, the game's over. There's two out.

And so the Yankees could not only clinch a playoff berth, but now, as I said, one game behind the Blue Jays. Obviously, they don't have the tiebreaker, so it's really two.

Mariners also clinched a, uh, wild card, at l- clinched at l- clinched at least a playoff berth last night- Mm-hmm... with a come from behind win over the, uh, the, the Rockies in Seattle.

A, uh, bases-clearing double from Josh Naylor in the eighth did the trick there, turning a 3-1 deficit into a 4-3 lead, and that was subsequently the ballgame. And then in the National League last night,

the Reds came up sh- came up small against the Pirates.

Uh, and then s- with that, the Mets against the Dodgers and the Diamondbacks, excuse me, the Diamondbacks against the Dodgers, the Mets against the Cubs, both erased big deficits. The Cubs were down, uh, was it five?

Uh, excuse me. The Mets were down, I believe, five runs. They came back to beat the Cubs. And the Diamondbacks were down 4 to nothing. Shohei was brilliant.

And once again with the Dodgers, as soon as they remove Shohei- It's all over... there goes the lead.

So right now it is a dogfight between the Mets and the Diamondbacks, looks, looks like right now for that final playoff spot. The Reds obviously still involved as well. That was a brutal loss for the Reds yesterday.

I think it's gonna be popular for a reason, and that does scare me, but I like the Green Bay Packers here, minus six and a half.

I know you're going out on the road, but I think this is just a massive bounce back spot for Green Bay.

The, the ultimate letdown last week against Cleveland, you know, to me it was, it was not surprising that that was a difficult game. It was not surprising that it was low scoring.

It was surprising that they lost straight up. I, I couldn't believe it.

And it, it feels like the Packers have a couple of these games every year, not where they're losing as an eight and a half point favorite, but when you feel like the game gets away from them early on, and then you have the inevitable Matt LaFleur press conference on Monday where he goes through, like, seven things where he's like, "Yeah, I probably shouldn't have done that.

Probably shouldn't have done that." [laughs] He kinda loses his cool in these spots. It's like, he, he's a bit of a front runner coach- Yeah. Yeah...

to me, where it's like when things are good, things, things tend to continue to go well. When things are bad, when there's some adversity hitting this team mid-game, he kinda loses his mind.

And we, we saw the enti- entire Packers team lose their mind last week. 14 penalties in that game against Cleveland. The offensive line was horrible.

I think they refocus, I think they get that cleaned up, and you're going up against this Dallas defense, guys, that, my goodness. I mean, bottom three, bottom five in just about every stat you look at.

I, I think perhaps most damning is how the Bears and the Giants have looked against this team, and how they've looked against everybody else. Obviously no CeeDee Lamb changes things offensively.

You know, their, their game plan basically fell apart once CeeDee went out. We just saw the, the Jake Ferguson raid offense, you know, picking up four yards on third and long over and over.

They're also down two starting offensive linemen. They might be missing Kenny Clark, Trevon Diggs, DaRon Bland. And nothing we saw last week really changed my opinion on the Green Bay defense.

So I, I think this is going to be an uphill battle for the Dallas Cowboys, who've actually run the ball better than I would have expected so far this season. Not sure that continues this week.

So I think this is a spot, a, a, a kind of an obvious get right spot, the Green Bay Packers, uh, especially that offense, which, you know, Josh Jacobs right now, 3.1 yards per carry.

I, I think this is the game where they, they get right and, you know, could put up 30 plus on what might be the worst defense in the NFL right now. Yeah. All right. I'm, I'm laying some bolts in that game, Nick.

I'm, I'm with, A, if, if you wanna feel worse about your week three, I, I like a lot of the same sides as you again this week, so that's- [laughs]... that might not be a good sign.

You know, we, we've talked a lot about Trevor Lawrence and Brian Thomas here in, in Jaguars land, but really the defense, I, I think has kinda been the story so far for Jacksonville.

Like, shockingly good defense through these first three games. Now, they have played Bryce Young, Jake Browning, and C.J. Stroud. So, so we'll see.

You know, that, that schedule's going to continue to pick up as the season goes along. But you're catching this Niners team that, like every year, has a ton of key injuries.

You know, Brock Purdy it sounds like probably plays this week. We'll see. Anjuwan Jennings. Obviously Nick Bosa now lost for the year. No George Kittle.

But the Jags defense coming into this game is third in EPA per play.

They already have as many takeaways through three games as they had all of last season, which really says more about the ineptitude in 2024 than it does this year. They're third in opponent success rate.

They're second in opponent EPA per pass. Still don't love what I've seen from Trevor Lawrence offensively. I don't really trust this team in the red zone.

Really both of these teams have been terrible in the red zone so far. So I, I look at this as an under spot where both offenses could struggle. Jags have gone under this number in two of three games.

Went way under last week. They went way under in week one in what should've been a smash spot against Carolina. And San Francisco, of course, has gone under in all three of its games so far.

Way under against Seattle, way under against Arizona last week. Both of these teams struggle to generate big plays. Time to buy low fantasy-wise on Brian Thomas Jr.?

You know, those are kind of the encouraging under-the-hood numbers that you're looking for for wide receivers. And I know he had the big catch and run at the end of the game last week.

But I've-- as a Jaguars fan, like, I'm holding my breath when that ball is thrown.

Like, when Trevor Lawrence is throwing a, an open pass to his wide receiver one, you feel like it's a 50/50 chance that he's gonna [chuckles] bring that in. Jeez.

So, like, I, I still think there's some kind of psychological things going on with Brian Thomas. He had a couple of big drops earlier in the game. You know, Lawrence kinda started to look away from him.

We saw a lot of Brenton Strange, a lot of Parker Washington, who led the Jags in targets last week. I, I-- if you can buy low enough, I, I, I think I would.

The, the problem is, you know, he's one of a, a huge group of, of these elite wide receivers, guys we were drafting in the top three or four rounds, who have been major letdowns- Yeah... so far.

It's, like, outside of Amon-Ra St. Brown, Puka Nacua, JSN, I, I guess you could throw Garrett Wilson in there. He's been fine.

I mean, if you have neighbors, Chase, Tyreek Hill, Jefferson, Lamb, Thomas, London, McLaurin, Metcalf, Mike Evans, all these guys have been letdowns. Good God. So it, it's kind of- What a list...

it's-- the idea of buying low on him makes sense, but it, it's difficult to work a trade for him. We, we did get one other question having to do with this game, uh, tweeted in from Pick 10- Mm-hmm... for you, Nick.

Uh, wanted to know Murray or Lawrence this week. Yeah. Kyler Murray- I, I saw that-... versus Christian McCaffrey... on Twitter, guys. Uh, I don't, I don't love either of these options, to be honest.

Seattle has been slightly friendlier to opposing quarterbacks in terms of fantasy points allowed so far this season. You know, Arizona does get this game at home.

Jags have to go out on the road, you know, one of the longest trips you can make in the NFL. So I, I would lean Kyler Murray here. A- again, I don't like either option.

Like, if, if Daniel Jones is sitting out there, you know, I would, I would start him over probably both of those guys.

But I, I don't really like the, the numbers, the underlying numbers, especially for, for Lawrence or Murray. I mean, I, I was looking into this the other day, guys.

For Arizona, uh, Kyler Murray is targeting his wide receivers 38% of the time. Like, that is far and away the lowest number in the NFL. It's really, really tough to generate chunk plays- Hmm...

when you're, you're checking down, and you're throwing to, to your tight end, you know, over 60% of the time. All right, let's do rapid fire. Let's go 25 seconds on each of these.

Um, Chargers, six-and-a-half point favorites at the Giants in Jackson Dart's debut. Yeah, it, it's a big number. I know they're on the road, guys, but it's, it's Jim Harbaugh.

It's a really good defense going up against a rookie quarterback. Harbaugh 4 and 0 straight up, 4 and 0 ATS as the Chargers head coach.

When facing a rookie quarterback, he's allowing under 17 points per game in those spots. So to me, it's gotta be Chargers or nothing there. Impact on Malik Nabers and Sca- Cam Scatbo in fantasy would be?

You know, they do get that Saints match up two weeks from now, or next week I should say, and that, that'll be a much better spot. But look, I, I know Russell Wilson looked fine against the Dallas Cowboys.

That's the Dallas Cowboys. He's been horrendous, you know, in the other two games. So I, I, I think there's really nowhere to go but up, especially based on what we saw last week against KC.

Well, I've seen a team that invested a lot in trying to help Drake May this past off season. They've added to the offensive line. They brought in Stefon Diggs in the receiver room.

And then of course, the biggest piece was they brought in a new play caller in Josh McDaniels, who had a lot of success with the New England Patriots in years past.

But they have not helped Drake May at all with regards to the run game. The run game is not doing anything of value for the New England Patriots. In fact, it's costing them with the fumble-itis that they seem to have.

You know, they put in Treveyon Henderson, he can't pick up the pass protection right. Then you put on Rhamondre Stevenson and he's just fumbling the ball and taking points away from the team.

And even Antonio Gibson had a fumble as well. So this team just cannot win with the running backs.

So I think they need to lean even further into the passing attack, and Drake May statistically has done really well passing the football.

It might shock some people, uh, where he ranks in some of these key metrics statistically. He's been a top seven passer in terms of his overall success rate. So, uh, he's been number two in completion rate.

He's been number nine in EPA per attempt. The issue, though, is that if they lean a little bit more into the passing game, they have to figure out a way to get the ball out of his hands quicker.

Because while his pressure rate is down a little bit year over year from last year to this year, which it should be with an improved offensive line and with better receiving options and a better offensive coordinator from a scheme perspective, the issue is, is that he's holding onto the football a little bit too long.

He's taking too many sacks. Uh, he actually is second in the NFL with sacks taken, only behind Cam Ward. Um, so they've gotta figure out a way. Sacks are drive killers. We all know that.
